• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The direction of this forum.

that's a good point...although I still think that an off-topic subforum would be a good idea at this point...

why would be need an off topic sub forum when we could go to the general BS forum? or if its a new dog or cat those foprums or i mean there is a forum for about everything here

I addressed that in my previous post...I dont' know anyone in the other forums (except perhaps for people who use this and other forums) and don't use any of the other forums...and I'm sure there are plenty of other people on this forum who don't either. I'm sure people would rather just share personal information with the people they know than with people they don't and possibly a couple they do. I'm not trying to start an argument, I just think it would be a good idea to have an off-topic subforum.

It doesn't seem like the influx of new posts is enough to warrant subforums... yet.

I agree with Robin. If we were to set up an off-topic forum, that would just discourage people from venturing into other forums on this site.

Is there any possibility that we can break this discussion up into two sub-discussions?
One pro
&
one against
or maybe three, we could add undecided.

Opps....to many sub forums!:D

first off in an OT subforum here on fauna would be a public forum so anyone could read or post in it people you know or not you might get people from all different herping groups and thats fine but why a subforum in leogeckos for OT posts? i mean you want some sorta exclusive forum to bs? sorry sounds stupid. also by posting in other areas, other than the leo forum will enable you to learn more about herps in general not just leos, leos are a very small part of reptiles. and in the process of learning about more reptiles you will meet new friends in those areas as well. and if you want to share something personal thats where the PM /messaging system comes in. easy

I'm aware it would be a public forum that anyone could read...but not everyone here reads all the other forums...I know I don't...and just because I can doesn't mean I will or want to. I'm well aware that leopard geckos are only a very small part of reptiles...but right now the leo forum is all I'm interested in on the Fauna forums...and I'm sure there are others that feel the same way. I don't think just the leo forum should have it's own OT subforum...I think all of the main forums should...it makes more to moderate...but I think it would make the communities more close-knit. I dont' think it "sounds stupid"...as you so eloquently put it...I think its a good idea to allow people to become more open and closer. If you don't feel the same way fine...but it's my opinion that OT subforums would be nice.

i just have this knack of having a way with words........

while alot of us do not frequent all the forums all the time we do use the "veiw new topics" link up at the top right of the main page and ALOT of us end up posting all over this board rather it be in boas, gecko ,leopard geckos ,general business section ,BOI ,HELL ,SOUND OFF!!! or general BS forums or ads for that matter..........

visiting other forums other than the leopard gecko forum and learning more about reptiles in general might help you to expand your vast knowledge about herpetology and herpetoculture... shoot maybbe you might learn basic reptile anatomy, reptile virus's, diseases and ailnments common and not so common.. so reading other forums other than leopard geckos can help you to learn MORE about the reptile you are keeping even if the particular forum isnt the leopard gecko forum.....

Just because I dont' choose the use the other forums here doesn't mean I'm not talking to people about other reptiles elsewhere or learning about them elsewhere. And I never said I had a "vast knowledge about herpetology and herpetoculture"...or even about leos...in fact I've said NUMEROUS times...and you know I have...that I am NOT a leo expert in any way...

Having been a forum voyeur for sometime, both here and on KS...I'm amazed at how some individuals tout their expertise based on their education or "pre-education" and their relatively limited time with leopard gecko’s and claim themselves as superior above all else. HEY, I’m PRE-whatever. Does it matter???? There are individuals on this forum (and other forums) who have expertise beyond education. After having successfully graduated from PRIVATE colleges (gasp---Yes, I went to schools/colleges/universities where the annual fee exceeds many annual incomes) and I realize---y’all ain’t so smart if you ‘ve got a degree. What is important is experience, integrity, and the ability to successfully communicate respectfully with others.

This forum is ideal as is. Sub-forums are fine. But I don’t want to see this forum end up as other forums. I think Webslave does a great job and I value the comments given by many others here. But! (never start a sentence with but, I know), I am disappointed when a novice throws their weight around based on education. This is a forum on leopard geckos. If you wish to discuss Off Topic items, go to yahoo groups.

Just a lowly graduate of ******** (hidden to protect the ignorant).

Owner of many avians, mammals, and reptiles, yet master of none.

cheers.

sub-forums

I am not in favor of sub-forums at this point. In regard to "off topic" discussions, I agree with Robin. This is the Leopard Gecko Forum, and Rich has other more appropriate forums on this website for other topics.
