In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The direction of this forum.

I agree with Robin and Marcia as well...

I think that this place is a WEALTH of information, and that we should all stick to the topic of this forum which is Leopard Geckos...

I too believe that a sub-forum isn't really necessary in this forum. Rich has so many other forums and those other forums would be the correct locations for almost all of the off topic subjects that would be brought up in the sub-forum.

By using the other forums, people are not only using Fauna to its fullest extent, but are also learning alot more about Reptiles in general... Not too mention all the other types of animals that this site has forums for as well.

So, I'd say lets leave the Leopard Gecko forum the way it is. I think this is the way it should be kept.

Personally I tend to favor the subforums, but that is only my opinion. One of the biggest problems of active forums is that repeat questions from new members will often get burdensome to people who have been around for a while. The question you have to ask is WHY are people asking the same questions over and over again? Well nine times out of ten, probably because they cannot easily find the answers they are looking for.

Subforums just make that easier to do. If your question is about genetics, what is easier to do: Scan through all of the posts in the forum on Leopard Geckos, or just scan the messages in a subforum called Leopard Geckos->Morphs and Genetics?

I prefer to think of this site as an information resource, so I tend to lean towards structures which head in that general direction.

But we don't have to jump into this whole hog, you know. We can use baby steps. I started off by putting the Photo Gallery in here, and it doesn't seem to have thrown many people for a loop. How about if we add one more? Which topic generates the most questions from the new people? Genetics? Basic Care? Egg and breeding problems? How about if we add one more and see how it flies? If it causes more problems then it is worth, I can always move all the threads back into this main forum and can the idea.

What do you think?

Oh about the Off Topic subforum within this forum, I don't see anything wrong with it although I would prefer people to broaden their horizons a bit and frequent the other sections of this site. But I do understand about tight knit groups. I will certainly consider it if you all feel it is worthwhile. As mentioned above, I can easily undo anything that isn't working out well.

Thanks for the input.

rich i do think that legit sub forums may very well work but and OT sub forum for the leo people just seems silly to me.. i think broaden your orizons.. i think if we have a second sun forum it should for now be rolled into one....... beginer care/keeping and beginer breeding because so many people get leos and dont really know alot about them but they do eventually want to breed them regardless of the complete knowledge of the animal... may sounds like a strange sub forum title but i will be willing to bet alot of trafic would go there
begenner keeping and breeding
i do not think inexperienced keepers should be breeding myself however if they are going to at least give them a place they can get good , reliable information
just my .02

and/or a leo genetics since there are chingos of morphs and it can cover broad spectrum og genetics from beginer to advanced

I kind of like the subforum idea...

The basic care subforum seems like not the best idea. I would guess that it would begin to sound like KS's forums. This would frustrate quite a few people here into not even looking at that subforum. I guess it would be too easy to ignore. I think a care sheet on the top of the Leopard Gecko forum would take care of most of the basic questions, and allow replies for additions and modifications (maybe mandatory mod approval of all reply posts?). This would also need a big title like "ALL WHO ARE NEW TO THIS FORUM READ THIS FIRST!!!"

I do like the idea of a genetics/morphs subforum, since that seems to take up quite a few threads on this forum and it seems to interest almost everyone who posts here regularly.

I think the addition of the genetics subforum and the caresheet, the rest should be covered in the general leopard gecko forum (this one). I don't think we have enough posts about breeding or anything like that. MAYBE one for health issues in general would be alright. I'm just worried that too many subforums will lead to not enough traffic to get good responses.

Robin, i kinda think that a off topic subforum would be a good idea. sure there is the general BS forum, but it never gets used and i would rather shoot the BS with people that i know, other than people on these forums that i have never heard of. Just my 2 cents though

I say we should start a genetics/morphs subforum and see how it goes. Let's try it out for a while and see what happens, if we don't like it we can always go back to the old system.

Sorry I have not been around the past couple of weeks, it has been very busy at my home.

I guess a genetics subforum would not be all that bad. I just shudder to think of us having like 10 different subforums here at the Leopard Gecko Forum. There are so many forums on fauna already, sometimes less is best! Keep it simple for a while, I mean, we are doing fine and enjoying it the way it is now right?:)

AMEN . . .

I don't enjoy all the sub-forums.

Keep it the way it is. It's working fine. The OT posts aren't that bad.

I agree too. If we have too many subforums, the main leo forum will barely have any posts. I don't think there are enough posts in this forum anyways to split them up into a bunch of subforums. I think it should be left the way it is...:D

Im with Monte!

Oh!!! sorry Monte....I..I...didn't see him!

Monte

That new cut makes you look so slim ;-)

A genetics subforum might be used as much as the genetics forum that exists already - which is not that much. I like the discussion as is with a little less O/T and more Leopard Geckos.

Terry

while i do agree that too many sub forums would be a bad thing, i think a OT would be great. In my opinion you will get to know the people on here better when you can talk and have discussions about other things like computers, movies, TV, your kids, cars. ect..

I know that most people on here have other hobbies/intrest other than geckos, (im a computer geek, 2 laptops, 3 computers, PDA, ect, and im really into cars) and would like to discuss them with people that they know and are familular. I think it would let everyone know each other a little better and make the community stronger.
but again, thats just my 2 cents

Good point to make Terry!

I too agree with this one reason for an OT forum, but too many subforums I personally don't feel are a good ide

Oh relax guys . . . .

. . . my dog has been my trademark lately. That other dude with the teddy bear on KS gets all the chix, so I said, "Hey, an idea".
