In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The Fauna Draft

Webslave has way more control then I do. Not only would I ban anyone that threatened me or made disparraging comments about my personality or abilities but I'd delete any posts that I felt were attacking me or only had a purpose to attack another member in such a way.

I don't want a site that is like KS where anything negative is deleted and they pretend that everything is perfect but I don't think I could put up with all the hateful posts that spawn more of the same.

It is my opinion that he does a way better job of dealing with all of this then I would. If I had all the power, I'd be one smitin' mofo. Bodies everywhere! lol :reddevil:

If he wants a break from some of the crap, I don't see any problem with trying out a new way for the population to police itself.

Also, to those who paid for membership, where on your receipt does it say that Webslave will moderate the board as you would like it to be moderated? I looked through the table of membership levels and I didn't find anything that said things would always stay the same or that the site would be run the way a paying member would want it to be run.

*Some* of those discussions had pretty open wording, seemed to invite comment on the entire topic rather than a specific aspect. That may be less the case recently as you've been more selective in your language when approaching a topic asking for member input but traditionally many of them came across as something where that member approval or disapproval was solicited.

Yes, this certainly may be the cause of some confusion. Some people obviously think I am completely brainless and just pull an idea out of my hat without giving it any thought whatsoever. That before ever bringing it up here I did not bother to give it even a passing thought myself considering as many ramifications and consequences of the proposal that I can think of. Sorry to have given that impression, but such just is not the case. I try to THOROUGHLY analyze ALL aspects of a change here, from as many angles as I can think of. Some will be unknowables, of course, but I do have to make best and worst case scenarios, as well as a Plan B alternative.

For instance, the Good Guy Certification program was on the back burner for about 2 years before being implemented. Some of the technical aspects of how I wanted it to work just were not easily implemented. It wasn't until my programmer did a major upgrade to this software that some new features made that project then feasible.

Generally speaking, when I would post a proposal for change here, it meant I was looking for some aspect of it I just had not thought about before. It was not a COLD call for input that had no forethought involved. Some people just seemed astonished that their ideas could have been thought of before, yet rejected for one reason or another. And to be perfectly honest, although every now and again I would get an aspect that was uniquely different from what I had thought of during my own considerations, the pros are heavily outweighed by the cons of soliciting input for such things.

And yeah, with everyone providing opinions all over the map on such plans, certainly there will be one or two who will be able to smugly say "I told you so". I used to work with a guy like that when I repaired computers. He would propose EVERY possibility for a situation and when the true cause were determined, he would then smugly say "Yeah, I told you so."

Rich,

I am not defending those posts that were unable to disagree without also throwing in a measure of disrespect, which would seem to be the base complaint of all the WWW threads to begin with. Picking these numbers out of the air, but my belief is that 90% of those who disagree with you or champion other alternatives are not so disrespectful as to see you as a lesser-thinker. Speaking for myself, I know that on many occasions I have rejected the advice of a dissenting point-of-view initially, only to have it wear on me and sink in some over time. Without going back and researching and cutting-and-pasting, I think you were less than lukewarm to the idea of peer review earlier in the first WWW thread, yet have now warmed somewhat to it, even if in a modified way. Its not that we all may not see the same alternatives, just that we assign differing weights to them. From our point of view, we would naturally see some problems and solutions differently. We're just counselors lobbying our case.

Just planting a seed, but I would liken the delegation of new enforcement powers as being similar to the existence of militias (and pirate heirarchy) in days of yore. The officers (those with enforcement power) in both cases were elected by those that they served, and in many cases it was a very effective system, as the enforcers began with the respect of those they had domain over (Andrew Jackson and Jean Laffitte being just two examples). If this system does not produce the desired effects, I would only ask that you consider adjusting it in line with some of the models that have been shown to work under the most trying of conditions elsewhere. You would retain ultimate power throughout, our continuing benevolent dictator.

And this would be my first post subject to the new peer review ...... can we institute an "infractions check" next to the spell check :D

Any particular reason the bars showing the range of karma on my name in posts shows a different range from where I actually am on points (-429 is what my CP says)?

The range says: "SoulSmilen is at reptuation level -500 to -999" yet the points never went that low; they stayed just above that.
