I started this thread when it first began, then stopped reading until the last few days.  Decided I would catch up and see what all the fuss was about.  Well, I made it through the first 45 or so pages, then decided to jump to the end to see where it went.

I don't know either Dave or Neil, other than what I have found on the BOI.  The attitude that Neil displays....."just wait until the end of the week"....."it's gonna happen so be ready".....sheesh...talk about your elementary school ploys.  Not that Dave has done much better.

Here's where it all leaves me.  I posted on the old BOI that I felt that these endless threads of crap damaged the usefulness of the BOI.  I have posted with inquiries about a couple of people that I received good info on, but when you see this kind of BS, you start questioning whether you can trust anyone who posts here or not.  Webslave locked topics before that went too far...I think this one needs to be locked permanently and left to die in the archives.  And as far as the new thread about the Snake Pit that just started, I think that one should be tossed off.  Too many questions about Neil's credibility, and we don't need to start another 95 page thread.

I also posted on the old BOI that I had decided that maybe the safest thing to do was to avoid all Florida dealers and breeders.  I'm more convinced of that now than before.  If Neil and Dave are the latest representation of Florida's herpers, the state is in very sad shape.  You'd think with Jeb Bush as governor they'd have enough problems....but apparently it's worse than I feared.

People, yes I understand that there are a bunch of people that would consider me justified to shut this thread down.  But I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place over this entire situation, so let me level with you all to let you know why it is still running when by all rights I should have pulled the plug on it long ago.

I made an error a while back by getting involved in allowing donations to be collected through my site to hire the private investigator to work on the case of Neil's break-in back in December of 2001.  This seemed like a real good idea at the time.  However, now questions have been raised (whether they are warranted or not is immaterial to this discussion) about what really happened in that incident, as well as the break in recently in May of this year.

In the meantime, James Thornton vanished into thin air, and even people whom live close enough to him and obviously must be able to contact him are completely mum about this whole thing.  It sort of makes me think that there are several people out there that know what the heck is going on, but just not coming forth to let me know.

So if I do not shut down this thread, the BOI is losing credibility by allowing the mudslinging to continue unabated and to the point where it appears completely ridiculous to outside observers.  Certainly a damaging affair to be carried along on this forum.  Let's call this 'the rock.'

On the other hand, we have that hard place:  If I close down the thread and block any attempts to restart it in another, I will be placing myself in jeopardy of being accused of trying to cover up this entire affair and thereby possibly implicate myself in whatever in the world is really going on.  After all, it was MY idea to hire the PI, and that is what the money was all collected for.  It would be irrelevant that I never personally laid a finger on one dime of that money.  It was MY idea. Unfortunately, I have a personal involvement and interest in this particular thread that is unlike any other that has taken place on the BOI.

This is clearly a damned if I do, and damned if I don't situation.  And yes, I do have the report from Tom Crowley.  However the seal on the envelope remains unbroken.  That is really all I can say on that matter.

So this is like being between a rock and a hard place with fire ants filling in the void along with me.

I have a number of courses ahead of me on this, all of them probably bad ones to take.  So I am taking the one that appears to be the one likely to take the least amount of flesh off of my butt in the process.

If you have comments to make that are not relevant to this thread, then please, just keep them to yourself to keep from fanning the flames.  I have spent quite a bit of my time, thank you, already deleting more messages than I can to think about in this one thread alone.  As well,I have bitten my own tongue many times over this thread in an effort to remain neutral.  I request everyone else to do the same.  Please.

If the major participants in this discussion can restrain themselves to ONLY posting messages with facts, figures, dates, times and other information that is verifiable, it would go a long way towards eventually getting closer to a complete and truthful picture of what is going on.  If you do not have facts that are provable, then most people will not consider them as facts anyway, so please just keep them to yourself.

I am not certain what is really going on.  And I do not believe the world will be a better place if and when I finally do figure it out or get enlightened by some unknown source.

I am sorry this has happened.  I am sorry this has taken place here.  But until I can figure out how to release this tiger I have by the tail without getting slaughtered myself, I have to do what I have to do.  You all can help me with this by just staying out of it as much as possible unless YOU have something factual to add.

Does this mean we will not be able to learn what was written in that report? The parties involved should realize that by not allowing that information to go public they are acknowledging that there MIGHT BE SOME truth to what is said in there. Report or no report, if releasing any of the information results in a personal threat I believe most people in the BOI will ask you to drop this issue for good. Yes, I would like to know the contents of that report but not at your expense. Whoever threatened to take action if that report is made public is (are) the one (s) that is (are) between the rock and the hard place and not yourself.

I want to publicly apologize to Phil Townes for a slur I made about 60 pages ago that was in response to one of his posts. I infered something generally regarded as an insult and it had no place on this board. I would have emailed him but since I made bad in public it only seems right that I make good in public. I know that most probably have no idea what I am referring to but I'm sure he remembers. I can only say that my anger got the best of me for a moment and I made a mistake in judgement.  It's been bugging me for a while and I finally decided I'd rather look foolish apologizing than continue on without making right.
I'm sure you are a fine human being in spite of the fact that I wasn't appreciative of your style. I truly apologize and hope you can look past my error.

Anyone who has been reading the BOI for any length of time knows that Neil has always been Daves strongest defender. Neil, you talk about starting over, turning over a new leaf, the past is the past etc....... But now, according to (only) you Dave is a maggot who beats up old ladies and has the mind of a two year old. He was your friend and you knew all these facts then, right? But he was ok. If he was HALF as bad as you imply, why would you have associated with him (if you were any better)? It does not matter, to me, what you say about Dave or any other "2 year old, stupid, punks" who post info. on this board, you have lost ALL credibility, and you should realize that. Your posts shed more light on who you are as a person, than every single other post on this thread combined. If all the other posts were removed, it would still be 50 pages of personal attacks from you, on EVERY person here that was making logical inquiries, trying to find the truth. There are alot of reputable people who post on this board, who have been brought to task for one thing or another, and most, have handled themselves in a professional way that has left their reputations untarnished. If you had never responded with your attacks this would have blown over in a couple of days.

Just for the record....I had NO CLUE as to Dave's background when we first met....it wasn't until THIS whole fiasco erupted that I found out what kind of person he REALLY is!!

As far as credibility goes....I could care less what you or anybody thinks about that! It sure as heck didn't hurt Bill Cagle (and he was a lot worse than me)...and it sure won't hurt my credibility, either...especially from the people that REALLY know me, and the folks that ARE doing business with me....that part of my credibility and honesty will NEVER change!!

Just for the record,  my decision to withhold posting the report from Tom Crowley has nothing at all to do with any sort of personal or legal threat for doing so.  I think most of you know by now that that sort of thing doesn't faze me any longer anyway.  Heck, for that matter, it is my policy to post such threats publicly.

Believe me, posting that report would basically wash my hands of this entire affair, personally, so I would do it in a heartbeat if I truly thought it was the best thing to do right now.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner but there was a whole weekend to live life and I didn't want it to waste away at the keyboard like you guys seem to enjoy so much.

If you think that either one of you have 100 % credibility after these last 90+ pages you are drinking your own bath water! You can trumpet all you want about how good business is but you don't really know how many people WON'T do business with you because you will never hear from them. That should be pretty clear to any grade school aged kid that has read this from the beginning.

Neil - you asked me how I would handle the same situation so here goes:

1. Probably would have responded to the first post much the same way you did.

2. Any time I posted I would have told the TRUTH knowing how many people read this.

3. After the 2nd or 3rd post, if I decided a lawyer was necessary like you did I would make one post that stated I had hired counsel AND THEN SHUT THE F&*K UP and let the man do what he was hired for.

4. If I saw a lawyer I hired post on a thread that I hired him to defend me from....I would then call him and tell him to SHUT THE F&*K UP and do the job he was hired for instead of making things MORE complicated.....then if he continued I would FIRE him and report it to the state bar association.

5. Even if I DIDN'T hire a lawyer I would avoid the "b!tch slapping" party you have been having here. People who are right let the truth speak for itself....people that have culpability scream and whine......sure we ALL will gripe back and forth.....but there comes a point when you realize the other person is so ridiculous that you just IGNORE them. Business may be fine for both of you but I'll bet it would be better if you both stopped posting after the first 4 or 5.....he!!....it would be buried and gone on the BOI by now.
