Hey I am inquiring about the company The Veiled Chameleon, I recently won two auctions on their Facebook page. I noticed there Facebook page last minute and jumped in on the auctions. I won a male ivory ball python and a male butter ball python. The ivory was won for $220 and the butter was won for $60. Shipping is $29, which comes to $309 shipped. I have had a hard time getting in contact with Steve, takes awhile to reply back and misses my calls and I miss his calls once or twice. I have seen a few bad reviews on his company and am very confused on what I should do. He told me that Paypal would work for payment, but them told me his company is switching to credit card only and that I must call in for payment on the phone. Another friend on Facebook won an ivory in auction as well and is also confused on what he should do after reading bad reviews.

I would strongly suggest you do a search on this forum, and read through the threads (rather than just looking for thumbs up or thumbs down). Also, search Steve Lieber and/or Karen Lieber. Those were the names they used before their bad reputation went viral.

what I should do.

I think most people here are good ethical folks. I'm thinking that it might be difficult for people to actually come out and advise you not to complete the transaction because most of the time when you win an auction you should honor your obligation.

I could scold you a little about not researching first, but that would not be useful, because you have a situation now and you've come for advice, so I won't scold.

If I made a pact with the Devil and he slid the contract across the table for the final drop of blood to seal it, and I just woke up to what I had done, I might think twice before pricking my finger.

I have never heard of $29 for shipping two snakes. That right there brings up red flags for me. If I were you I would back out. The Veiled Chameleon has a bad rep for a reason.

Okay, someone has to say it. Kevin, it is extremely unlikely you will ever see the snake(s). In fact, a good portion of the animals Steve has sold over the years were animals he never had to begin with. There are plenty of stories here, if you're willing to read through them. You'll notice that few have any proof (unlike most legitimate BOI complaints) because he is very careful not to communicate in any way once he has your money. So, there you go, you've been warned.

Ivorys are cheap now, Get them wholesale for 200 which is what most go for in auction that has little activity. The price it went for would never offset me into thinking anything.

Ive see soul suckers in auction selling for 1000.

But the guy if you give money to honor the winning, will prolly not send anything! So be sure your paying with a Bank Card if it does happen.

I have saved you the touble of having to do a search on Steve Vigo. If you go to the top of the BOI and look for my post, You will find most of the links about Steve Vigo. He is not using PayPal any longer because he has committed fraud to the point all of his accounts are shut down by PayPal security. He has to constantly set up new accounts to take new orders. Once the money is obtained he will try to move the funds into another account before it is charged back as fraud. Good Luck!

Thanks for all the info guys, it really helped out. I know I probably should have researched him before jumping in on an auction. I backed out, it's not worth the risk. Thanks to all who took the time to reply to this thread

Here is the last email conversation with Steve Vigo. He did state the refund was processed but it was justt another lie. He lies to buy time to move the funds before they are charged back as fraud.

There is no email from you about a credit in Tarah's email. We will see how that plays out. However, I do have quite a bit of documentation about your business practices, better bureau complaints, generally lying and screwing people for years. I don't take kindly to people screwing other people and getting away with it. I did not make a threat, I just wanted to let you know there can and will be consequences for your actions and they will not be in your best interest. If you are no longer ripping people off, that is Great.. glad to hear it. However, with all the negative info out there about your past, you have to fulfill commitments on time. otherwise you appear to be doing the same thing as in the past and have no credibility..
Tarah worked hard for that money to start her business, and there is no way
in hell I am going to let someone take that from her. I would not have
come across as I did if it was not for your past actions. I hope it's resolved and just a big misunderstanding. Happy Holidays as well.

Problem is you never really know the type of person your screwing until it's too late, or exactly when your luck will ran out. You don't but are about to find out, and it has. The best thing you can do for the both of you is to refund the 350.00 to the credit card I gave you tonight, stop screwing people out of their money and try to make an honest living. You and Karin didn't happen to live on 58th CT did you?

Below is Steve's self-description on his website. I certainly agree that he has a "strong entrepreneurial spirit". Does anyone know the 'legalities' behind Paypal? Somehow, using three names (Steve Lieber, Karen Lieber, Steve Vigo) he has managed to rotate them in a way that he is always able to receive money, then have the account disappear. At what point does Paypal get wise and deny these folks an account? I know firsthand they've had to refund money for non-delivery from those names. Is it just that easy to keep stealing? Sad.

Steve Vigo, Founder / CEO

For over 10 years, Steve has been successfully engaged in high volume e-commerce. Steve’s success is a result of his strong entrepreneurial spirit and uncanny ability to pick winning strategies, especially those that defy conventional wisdom. His determination and tenacity is backed by a tremendous amount of hands on experience and is fueled by unwavering passion and enthusiasm for reptiles.

As founder of Theveiledchameleon.com, Steve is the vision and passion of the company. His lifelong passion for breeding animals is the driving force for creating Theveiledchameleon.com. His love and compassion for animals is clear in how he treats his breeders daily.

I work in the banking industry and am familiar with credit card fraud but just now getting started on the Paypal side of it. It would be best to not get into exactly what is happening with the investigation into Mr. Vigo's business practices, and his ability to set up new accounts, but I do believe Mr. Vigo's luck has expired.

It's a cat and mouse game that Steve is very good at. Here is an email I received from a fine fellow during my research into Mr. Vigo. business practices.

after several years of just seeing Steve reincarnate and continue his scams over and over. Its the computer age, and low-level thieves will can seemingly exist forever between the level at which law-enforcement gets involved, and where they run out of options, which seem endless to reincarnate.

I did look at Steve's Imperial Pet Supply website, and had a bit of a laugh seeing how he was branching out in selling stuff he did not have. Trust that my being humored is also tempered by knowing that he is taking hard-earned money from such as your daughter. But I am amazed still. Steve has been doing exactly what he did to your daughter for 6-7 years.

I hope you are able to recover the funds. The dispute will exist as a debt against whatever account Steve was using, freezing any funds up to $350 that were there, and any funds that are put into Steve's account if it was below that. Steve knows this game, but it is still a bit of a pain to switch accounts that accept credit cards. Regardless, he will try to move funds to where they cannot be reclaimed, and have alternate accounts to use to keep pulling folks in when one path is finally burned.
