In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The wild, wild, west!

You see Mark,
Utilizing the "ignore" option is a wonderful way to be able to post here, especially if your primary contributions are snipe and hurl insults ("poo" is the Wes-speak equivalent), and then you get to be oblivious to those that may criticize your tact, or lack thereof. So if sniping is your style, it may be the perfect answer for you. It may help you from developing an inferiority complex, and maybe even cause you to hum "Kumbaya" more often. :D The roll call assembled here is continuing testimony that "Ignorance is bliss", and I would hope that you give their suggestions serious concerns. FYI, as it reduces the nonsense, many in Fauna applaud when the snipes assume this posture:

I put everyone on ignore!!!!! Now all the post on Fauna are mine!!!! Hello anyone out there??? LOL It can be a handy little button at times..... Randy

Seems strange I got a "wrong answer" when I did not even saying a name. Nor did I say where this was at, so apparently Shrill you must have some info to come to the conclusion of whom my answer may have been.
Strangely odd. I see you are now in the newcomers room too, again coincidence?
Either way mimicing is the sincerest from of flattery, I remember one other holding Wes in such high regard, too bad it wasn't mutual.
I really don't care who you are, I just find it amusing that people are too cowardly to come out as their own self. Unfortunately what you write is not enough to keep me amused, quite boring actually. If you are going to mimic at least be as lively as the person you are aping. EH
Sybil comes to mind.

After reading posts in various threads for the past few days, I have had a revelation regarding the BOI. I think that I will have to agree with Rich, that no matter what is done, there will always be some degree of chaos in a forum such as this.

Rather then encourage, discourage, or condemn it, it is probably better to let it run it's course and simply enjoy the show.

There are those that are here to glorify the keeping of reptiles and are willing to pass on their knowledge to others. To those people, I salute you.

There are those that are here to stroke their own egos and engage in debates wherever and whenever the opportunity arises. To those people, have a great time - you entertain the rest of us.

There are those that are simply looking to destroy what others have created. To those people, I am sure that you will eventually be exposed and will become entertainment for everyone else as well.

Regardless of what anyone says, in my opinion, this is still the best reptile forum on the internet.

Yep. Took me a while to figure out that one myself. It's just not my nature to sit back and allow apparent verbal abuses such as are evident there, and I did try to stop it. I tried to cater to that subset of members here who did not like that sort of thing because, quite frankly, I didn't like it either.

But it proved to be detrimental to the goals of the BOI and my level of stress as well, via the efforts required to enforce such a thing. So that part of the learning curve of running this site is now over with.

In order for the BOI to be effective, it has to allow anyone participating within it the freedom to show their TRUE selves. I can't put myself into the position of unloading their gun so they can't shoot themselves in their own feet.

Totally agree.
Really it is back to where it started. All that changing and re-arranging just to go full circle. We all survived it just fine and will in the future. The more people the more drama, the trick is to not get caught up in it.
The site is looking very good by the way.

Been thinking about this thread a lot lately..... And had a rather interesting thought for a change around here....... Yeah my mind tends to wander quite a bit when I am feeding baby snakes..... :reddevil:

What was one of the aspects that the "wild, wild west" was infamously known for?

Ah yes - High Noon!

Here, from a site dedicated to the Wild Wild West, a review:

In his book on television dramas, Larry James Gianakos writes:

"The principal creative significance of this series rests in its construction of offbeat villains, who served as a perfect foil for the resourceful youthful protagonist. In their maleficent glory, madness became stylish; a sophistication to be intensely studied, if not--let the puritans gasp--emulated. Veteran Hollywood character actors went about their craft with a precision that could only have come from an adoration of inspired typecasting."

Misfits

Guns that never stopped shooting.

Bar room brawls

Outlaws and Bad Men

you also had guys like Wyatt Earp, the Texas Rangers and the Pinkertons to keep the above in line.

Lynchings? Wait....we already have those, right Wes?

American West produced many exciting heroes and legends. Names like Jesse James & Cole Younger, The Dalton Gang, Kit Carson and Calamity Jane bring up images of train robberies, scouting, trapping, and gun-fighting duels. Women, like Annie Oakley, Belle Star, Willa Cather, Cattle Kate, Helen Hunt Jackson, and Carry Nation, made a large mark on the Old West as everything from shady characters to leaders (paving the way for women¹s rights). Landmarks, like Tombstone and The Alamo, are tributes to the people like Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Daniel Boone, and Sam Houston who made those sites famous. And then there was Samuel Colt who made the American West into what we know it today just by developing a gun.

So in the spirit of the old west....who is who on this board?

Getting some good replies, hitting on this thought running through my mind. Checking with my programmer now to see if what I want to do is practical to do........ :dgrin:
