    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey guys what's the difference between ungrounded thermostat and grounded thermostats and which one should I get the helix DBS 1000, the herpstat intro, or The vivarium electronics be-100. I have wooden racks if that's any help

A good example is this.. You know how some plug ins have only 2 prongs & others have 3? The third round prong is the ground. Grounded is the way to go. Personally speaking of course.

Electrical circuits may be connected to ground (earth) for several reasons. In mains powered equipment, exposed metal parts are connected to ground to prevent contact with a dangerous voltage if electrical insulation fails. Connections to ground limit the build-up of static electricity when handling flammable products or when repairing electronic devices. In some telegraph and power transmission circuits, the earth itself can be used as one conductor of the circuit, saving the cost of installing a separate return conductor.

I hope this helps

Thanks dude!!

Grounded plugs should be used with metal racks. That's the big difference. You can use a non-grounded if you're using a plastic rack.

You can use grounded on any material you want, but you can't use un-grounded on metal. I would go with the Herpstat, as I have 3 and about to buy a herpstat 4 and I love them all, won't buy anything else now. Spend the extra 10$ for grounded and it won't matter what racks you buy in the future, you will be covered.

What do you think about he herpstat intro?

I have both the herpstat 4 and helix dbs-1000 in use. I personally like the herpstat and will only buy those from now on. I just like the added features. It is always nice seeing how much power is going to each rack. You can see a more precise temp in 1/10 increments. I would go with grounded regardless of which one you get.
