• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Do you mind if I share this with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Important Bird Area program? We're always looking for photographic evidence that trash is bad, since Georgians are particularly bad about trashing the woods and not recycling.

This is actually an old, old image (and video) from 2006. The video, another like it about a snapping turtle caught in a ring, and a news article about it are here:

http://conservationreport.com/2009/04/24/animal-welfare-turtle-deformed-by-being-trapped-in-a-six-pack-plastic-ring/

The images are also reproduced here:
http://creepyanimals.com/2010/10/animal-anomaly-turtles-with-constricted-shells/

So while this is not a new incident, by any means, it still makes an extremely important point, and it has been reproduced all over the internet (and is currently making the rounds on Facebook this past week or so), so I'd say it's probably a safe item to repost and reproduce :)

Yes, by all means do what u wanna...It was a pic i found online...
If it online its open to everyone..

It just, show how careless people can be.. even the little things can cause
big problems.

I don't often buy canned 6 packs anymore or drinks that are packaged with these, but when I do I have always made sure to cut those plasticy things up so that there is no way for an animal to get stuck in one. This doesn't make me some great saint, but photos like these definitely made me aware of the problem many years ago thereby motivating me to make sure I was not adding to it. Even putting these directly into the trash..and they are uncut, you never know where they will end up. Cut then toss.

The only sad thing is...If its not in our face all the time....we will forget..

so save it on ur computer.....and post when you remember...............

Thanks Phil.P

It's sad, but at the same time, an amazing display of how adaptive life can be. The shell actually changed due to people's trash! Of course, ideally, it shouldn't have had to make this type of adaptive response. Life continues to go on though, that little dude is proof! I wonder if he's thinking - screw you pop rings, you won't kill ME! If a human had something like that happen to them, they (the man/authority) would probably demand that those plastic pop holders no longer be used. Alas, it seems animals don't have voices that the majority of people listen to.

Good job to everyone sharing and being responsible! It's great to see!

My question is why didn't the plastic break with the growth of the turtle?
Is it just because they grow so slowly?
I think that as unfortunate as it is, it is also a remarkable and amazing example of proof that animals have the will to live on.

Whenever I see people leaving trash around, I make sure that the trash ends up back with them in some way. Whether I follow them to their vehicle and throw it in their window, stuff it under the hood and melt it to the engine, or even calling them out on the spot, which I do the majority of the time and they will pick it up and throw it away (very embarrassed of course). And in the rare case that it doesn't get returned to them or thrown away by them, I will always make sure it makes it into the trash can.

I never really did think about cutting up those plastic six pack holders though, and that was a good point to bring up. I wasn't sure they even made those anymore..lol All I ever see anymore are just cardboard boxes..
