In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This sickens me

Mysterious Venomous Snakes Found in LR Neighborhood
Saturday May 15, 2004 11:48pm Posted By: Angela Rachels

Little Rock, AR - A frightening discovery as four venomous snakes abandoned in a Little Rock neighborhood. but thankfully residents are now out of harms way.

It started when a driver stopped to look inside a wooden box at Sixth and Byrd streets. As he peered in, a cobra lifted its head- preparing to strike. Luckily, the reptiles are now in the hands of the Little Rock Zoo.

Handlers say the snakes are worth a thousand dollars- and while they are now contained--the question remains, where did they come from?

(Randal Berry, Little Rock Zoo) "Sure enough, there they were, I thought holy cow! We've got some pretty serious animals."

Reptile keeper Randal Berry opened up this box, labeled "live venomous reptiles" to find a very aggressive cobra, a 14 inch twig snake, a 6 foot long green mamba, and a 4 foot long black mamba.

(Berry) "Very venomous- especially the green and the black ones- could be a very serious bite."

Randal says these snakes are not in their usual territory, they're at home in Africa.

There, black mambas are classified as the largest poisonous snake- cruising up to 7 miles per hour. Green mambas live in trees and can swallow prey up to 4 times its size, and the bite of a twig snake is especially deadly-- because there is no known antidote.

Meanwhile, the cobra is known for not shying away when around humans. Randal says the cobra was more animated than the others--and he observes that whoever owned the snakes, fed them well.

Still many are scratching their heads trying to figure out how these out of country snakes made their way into Arkansas.

(Berry)"I'm just assuming that someone shipped them from reptile dealers."

Randal says it's up to their director, but they will most likely transfer the snakes to another zoo.

We herpers here in Arkansas are a pretty close knit group, whether you keep cornsnakes,Retics,or Hots, everyone knows what each other has. I personally have saught the owner/idiot and the only people I can think of that have the experience with these snakes are just as pissed as I am about it.All this is gonna do is usher in more legislation for ANY reptile keeping here.If anyone has a clue as to who might have did this, let the authorities know please.

Absolutely ridiculous!

Was there no shipping information (To or From) on the box in which the snakes were found??? I just can't express how fortunate everyone was that some chlid did not find them FIRST!!!

Thanks for posting that, Glen!

That's for sure Darin, As a father it troubles me that someone could have their head so far up a certai orifice that they'd do something like this.Athough it doesn't say it on that report, out local paper stated that the snakes were in bags..will try to find an online version so I can post a link.BTW Darin,PM your email addy if you're interested in going on a herping trip with us:D

There's an online version of the story here - I've copied and pasted in case the link goes down. Its not got as many details, but got to say the truck driver doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the box....hmmm 'Live venomous reptile', I'll just kick the box a bit to annoy the contents then open it to see what tries to bite my face off....

Anyway, hope this is of use

Driver Finds Four Poisonous Snakes in Box

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- A curious pickup truck driver spotted a box in the grass marked "Live venomous reptile" east of downtown and stopped to take a look.

"When you see something like that, you want to look and see what it is," Paul Mitchell of Little Rock said of his Friday afternoon discovery. "I went over and kicked the box."

The electrician looked inside and found a cloth bag slithering into the form of a cobra ready to strike.

"I was like, 'Hot dog! That thing is big!'" Mitchell said.

Mitchell grabbed up the box, put it in the bed of his truck and took it to the Little Rock Zoo.

"I was just going to take it back to work and kill it, but I figure cobras aren't indigenous to Arkansas," Mitchell said. "I knew the zoo would have a snake handler."

Randal Berry, the zoo's reptile keeper, took the snakes in out of concern for public safety. He said the zoo doesn't usually take in animals.

Berry said the cobra was very aggressive as he pulled it from the sack, repeatedly rearing its hooded head. Also inside the box were a 14-inch-long twig snake; an East African bright green mamba that measured 6 feet long, and a 4-foot black mamba. All are highly venomous and there is no antivenin in Arkansas.

Berry said the snakes were in good condition and estimated that, together, they were worth about $1,000.

No one knows where the snakes came from. The box had no markings other than "Live venomous snakes." Berry said no snakes were missing from the zoo.

Cindy Dawson, assistant city attorney and zoo docent, guessed that the snakes came into the city illegally. Keeping, selling, possessing or maintaining venomous reptiles is illegal, though some exceptions are made for education, research and entertainment.

City officials said they're hopeful all the snakes are accounted for, but that they would remind any animal control workers that calls reporting any exotic snakes could be serious and not pranks.

Zoo officials said they haven't decided what they're going to do with the snakes, including the seething cobra.

"I don't want it here," Berry said with a laugh. "He's not a nice guy."

Here's another thread on this w/more info...

http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39607

Here's an update posted in that thread for those that don't want to read it for whatever reason...

And this is the update:

Most already know that I packed and shipped the snakes from Exotic Reptiles Jungle. The shipment was totally legit, and the buyer was legal to purchase. The snakes arrived, and he picked up the box from Delta, then e-mailed to say that he recieved the shipment and again thanked us for the animals.

This morning we were contacted by a detective in AK who said that the buyer's body was found near the airport. I don't believe his rental car was located, and the box containing the snakes were found elsewhere, so it is being investigated as a homicide.
The detective said that he did NOT have a M.I., but the body was taken back to have further testing (to see if the death was related to a snake bite). A delta worker recognized the name when the body was delivered to be shipped back to his home, and told the detective that this person had just picked up a shipment of venomous snakes.

I feel certain that his death was not caused by a snake bite. The car was not found with the body, and the snakes were far from where the body was found.

I had just found out that the buyer was found dead..how sad.Hopefully the authorities can catch the waste of good breathing air that did this to him and set those snakes out for ANYONE to find.
