• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I utilize the Subscribed Threads section of my User CP regularly. I disabled email notifications years ago, so this is how I keep up with topics of interest. With notifications shut off, I don't think having a lot of subscriptions has much impact on the server (Rich has commented in the past that processing all those notifications does increase the server load); but I try to manage them periodically, anyway.
I guess I slacked off a bit, as I noticed this morning that I had over 1400 threads in my subscription folder :eek:

I started deleting them; but, as is usually the case (for me, with any sort of cleaning project), I got distracted. I started opening various threads before deleting that page (even deleting them by the page takes some time, when there are that many, lol). It was an interesting trip down memory lane; and it really emphasized how much things have changed here in the past two years. I knew that use of the Discussion forums had waned over the years...but about half of my subscriptions were from the last 5 months of 2012, and discussion threads made up a good portion of those. Starting in early 2013, my discussion subscriptions fell off severely.

I can't help but wonder if members that have joined in the past year even know there are discussion forums...and, if not, would they use them if they did?
