In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm figuring about 4 more weeks for this girl...she only takes a couple rats at a time now, but she's still getting bigger. She has managed to get the heavy paper torn up and pushed to the opposite side of the cage. I don't want to bug her, but I really would like to give her cage a good cleaning. She spends most of her time in something close to this position...sometimes she is more stretched out, but belly up none-the-less

I pace the floors most nights - at work, lol.
As the saying goes, the pics don't do her justice, lol...sort of washed out, but not too bad. I'm surprised the pics came out as well as they did, actually...the room isn't particularly bright, and there is no lighting in the cage. The in-cage shots I have tried with my albino boas have all been crap, lol.
Now, if the babies take there temperaments from her, I'll probably be able to sell them, lol. (The planned father went on a prolonged hunger strike, necessitating a last minute substitute. He's not the nicest fella around, but sometimes ya just gotta get the job done)

Speaking of pacing, as the due date approaches, how often do you guys check on your girls? Do you get up in the middle of the night to check on them? My sunglow litter (first litter I have produced in 10 years) is due within the next week and I am getting a bit anxious!

I've lost far more sleep waiting for boas to be born, they I ever did when my daughters were born.

Many nights, I'll be up every couple of hours checking on mom.

I check when I get home in the morning, and when I get up. I have always just found the babies there when I get home. Pythons, on the other hand, I seem to catch in the act fairly regularly...makes it easy to arrange the eggs the way I want them in the incubation container.

Griz - I don't ordinarily do this, but I'll trade ya one of my yellow annies for one of your sunglows. She should have enough where I won't miss one all that much.

Crap, I figured I would be waking up every few hours and now you have confirmed it. I reckon losing some sleep is more than worth it if I stop even one sunglow from being smothered (mother is 40lb albino).

Harald, I have to admit, I don't recognize what animal that is up above! I am only boa's and even then they are usually on the smaller size. I might be interested in other boa's though.

This brings up an interesting point. Has anyone else here seen the video "All About Boa Constrictors" by VPI?

A large portion of the video was filmed at Rich Ihle's facility. In it, he describes a cage setup for his gravid females where he places two large tubs in the enclosure: One with water and one with bedding. These two tubs are against opposite walls and take up the entire floor space of the enclosure except for a 8" gap in the middle. He places two plastic showboxes end to end to fill this gap. The shoe boxes are several inches lower then the tubs.

The females prop themselves on the rims of the larger tubs and deposit their babies into the shoe boxes. The mother never crushes any babies and Rich simply comes along and removes the shoe boxes full of babies. No muss, no fuss.

If you haven't seen this clip, this one little section is worth many times the cost of the video.

I have every intention of setting up in a similar fashion this year. I lost several albinos this year due to being crushed by the mother.

I've never bred BCI (well, once, but then I returned her to the owner, lol)...I've heard people talking about the mothers crushing/smooshing/smothering babies, but never really figured it would be that big an issue. I mean, I've never run into that with dumeril's (ok, they're smaller) or yellow anacondas (they're not). I may have to have a talk with the albino girls when the time comes...there will be none of this smooshing sunglows (or albinos, or ghosts, or snows, or snoglows, etc)

Boy, she really dragged this one out...she was starting her color change when I initiated this thread, and it has been all over the place. Her belly has been milky for the past 3 1/2 weeks, but she is officially opaque now - it is weird seeing her like this because she usually just has a mild color change & a milky hue to her belly. She's rather lumpy, and showing signs of getting grumpy. I've been trying not to bother her, but I recently noticed her belly is a bit on the pink side (? if the prolonged pre-shed might have something to do with that...a bit of moisture between the layers, maybe). I have been staying on top of the cleaning, but she is now pretty hissy and clearly wants to be left alone - not striking or anything aggressive, just pulling away from contact. She passed a small amount of urates last night, just enough to make a whitish stain on the paper
