In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Tom Crutchfield - dba Herps Ltd

First of all Tom is a good guy. He is always willing to help others. I have known him for almost 20 years. There is no reason to complain because he would not ship the way you wanted it, it really isn't the buyers choice.

If a seller is going to give a live arrival guarantee then it is the sellers choice as to how the animal gets shipped, NOT THE BUYER. I have lost a few sales myself because I would not ship certain ways buyers wanted. If a seller does not feel comfortable using a shipping method then why should he guarantee the animal? THAT MAKES NO SENCE. If he didn't want to ship your way then move on, plain and simple. Instead you came here and whined about it, so what.

Think about it, if you want something shipped to you, and the seller does not feel comfortable shipping that way, then why should he?

If a seller ships in a way they are not comfortable and the animal dies during shipping, isn't the customer going to want a refund?

Shipping live animals is a business, NOT A GAME.

I just want to add something about Crutchfield... I almost bought from him a gorgeous, perfect Aru green tree python, but in the end I didn't because he very stubbornly would not negotiate a shipping plan to fit my needs, and he put me in such an awkward position that I was totally put off after all the begging I did.... if he treats all his customers like this I don't see how he's still in business.

My last post was in responce to this post.

One more thing. Any responsible seller puts the animals best interest FIRST.

Tom did nothing wrong to you. If you couldn't afford the few bucks it costs to ship to you then you probably shouldn't be buying it in the first place.

Seriously, (As to my question above) You live in Florida (Not sure where) so I am really curious where the shipping problem came into play? I live in Florida at the opposite side of Tom and if I can't drive to go get it (And I really don't think driving to North Cuba is worth my time, I kid of course... Just so far south!) I would have him ship. When you order a reptile that's pretty much your options unless he is willing to meet you but that's only if he is in the area, I would expect him to meet me half way just because... I'm not assuming, just curious.

I would like to hear your side...

Are you people serious ?

Tom Crutchfield is the biggest crook the herp world has ever seen. He is a convicted smuggler of endangered/threatened species who ran from this country to avoid going to jail. He was caught some years later and sent to jail which is exactly where this crook belongs. Deal with him at your own risk, but good luck.:shootfoot

And has he continued this behavior? Or should we hang him by a rope and not give him second chance? I don't agree with what he did but the man did his time according to our laws! Talk to me when and if he is busted again.

I've done some minor crappy things in my life, Thankfully I had a second chance and never did them again!

Are you saying you never made a mistake? Is that even your name? Tom is one of the most knowledgeable people in the herp world. He is always happy to help people whenever he can. Everyone makes mistakes in life, it's a part of life. Good people learn from their mistakes. Compationate people understand and forgive people and give a second chance. It's jackasses like you that are immature, and close minded and get off on trying to make problems for others. You are probably jealous of Tom in the first place. Some day I hope you grow up.

Hey All,

I just want to ad my 2 cents to the post a couple back about tom being a crook.

COME ON and GET OFF IT.

If all you newbies really opened your eyes and looked around a ton of "common" animals got there start from smuggling, funny paperwork, collected in restricted areas.

Do you know how many web people break LAcey Act while simply shipping in the US without knowing it. Or traveling through states to shows. Everytime dealers take corns to the S.C. through georgia there a felon. Laws are made by politicians not scientists

And so what!!!!!!!!!! We bring them here and BREED them. You know what happened to the Fiji iguanas that Tom brought in? They are a zoo, which freezes the eggs they produce. Do you know what is happening to the wild population? ITs being decimated by rats. So tell me how if they had gotten into the hands of US breeders this would have been a bad thing.

Look at Dumerils and Argentine boas-both class 1 animals breeding everywhere and now $40-50 wholesale. Guess we screwed them up. Should of left them on the island to be turned to charcoal with the rainforest so they have something to sell. How bout beardies, black headed pythons, most of the torts, half the monitors, chain kings, wood turles, spotted turtles, etc etc etc.

He might have broken the law once upon a time. But we all break laws every day. I'm sure you break the speed limit or have rolled though a stop. Guess your on my banned list as I cant stand dangerous drivers!

If you go to his facility you'll see animals out if florida sun, in the open air, in large free flight cages enjoying life, and readily breeding.

I'm sure thats the sign of a bad facility. If he is such a crook why is the go to guy by household names when they are looking for something rare, why does he have zoos as customers, and why is he invited to other countries to help set up game management areas. Why are people cooming from other coutries to see his place? Becuase he knows more about herps in captivity and in the wild then you'll ever know.

Thanks

:iagree:

You make a great point and I'm glad you did.

I'm not saying breaking the law is right, (God knows I don't need to get banned on this site for supporting illegal behavior, even if I may agree to a point) I see how our BS laws are unjust in many ways. Sort of like the how the Eastern Indigo could do much better in breeding programs however I'm banned from owning any while they allow Rich Man Joe to build a mall right over their land.

Just because it's law doesn't make it right! Sometimes breaking laws is the only way to change laws. (Look at how long people have been arrested in states where Medical Marijuana was legal but federal laws still over rode state laws) It took angry people breaking the law to get the Government to realize the laws needed to be changed. Obama just pulled the dogs of the Medial Marijuana industry and patients.

I'm not saying stripping the land of its animals is right or a good thing but in todays world putting them in the pet trade is probably much better than allowing the Chinese to eat everything that moves! Or as you pointed out...

Where are the snakes in Hawaii? Gone, why? Just like anything else... MAN screwed up in one way or another...

Perfectly put. I have spoke with a few people who have said they were treated great by Tom.

Mr. Lambert, would one of those people be Rich Montoya?

But you are right, and at least Tom doesn't have to lie about his identity or create duplicate accounts on websites to conduct his business. You perhaps stand a good chance to learn a thing or two from him, like standing up and learning how to handle the heat like a man.

If all you Tom Crutchfield lovers will go to KS you will notice Tom is selling wild caught Amazon Basin Emeralds. Those are ILLEGAL to import. He managed to find a way around that though.( field collectors took the wild caught Basins across borders to a country that has no restrictions on export of Basins because they are not native. Perhaps Peru?) Someone as knowledgeable as Tom knows this , but still brought them in the country.
One of them has a big scar that he first stated was NOT a scar but just dark pigmentation. After being called out he took that out of his ad. This guy has learned a lot about skirting the law. I have seen recent pictures of him with one of the Nostrands. They are the subject of a book called the LIZARD KING. It's all about the illegal animal trade and its worst offenders. He has not changed his stripes.

Did you ask Tom where he got them or how he got them? I doubt it. South Florida is full of importers, and Tom buys from several of them. Maybe he took them in on trade. You don't know. So for you to make a statement like that is un called for.

Without proof to back it up, all you are doing is running your mouth.
