    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

The buyer didn't follow the specified rules; he's out his deposit.

A very nice gesture on your part. He is lucky you are willing to do that, and you are a good guy to offer it.

Of course, you could, as was suggested earlier in this thread, simply flip him off as you pass him by, but not everyone wants to be that kind of person.

Excellent suggestion Wes, a good will gesture goes a long way in this industry. And Brian, you could also offer him the same female after she drops her litter. Keep us posted...........

BTW... my superjamp had been with this yellowhead het for like 2 nights or something.... and she technically isn't suppose to be able to breed yet, so i wasn't expecting anything... until she started to go off feed and ovulate, looks like she retained sperm. :)

i got her from prehistoric... and jay told me "if your smart you'll get her instead of that other one your looking at". well I'm glad i listened to him - cuz i think he hooked me up with a 2002 female and not a 2003. :cool:

cant wait to see what the babies look like :cool:
 
Maybe I fell out of the wrong side of bed this morning, but...

I'm all about being a nice person, I really am. Yet, I'm wondering why in the world you would bother making a deal for a non-refundable deposit and then consider altering the deal?

If there were extenuating circumstances, I'd possibly negotiate. What I'm reading is that the guy is a flake, didn't send the full deposit, didn't explain, didn't make the payments on time, and then pops back up to complete the deal under his terms.

I bet he provides EXCELLENT care for his animals!!! Do you think he can remember that snakes need to every every week, not every 2.5 months?

Do whatever you need to do to not feel guilty, but why give consideration to someone who doesn't seem to be responsible enough to even own an animal? Someone who didn't consider your request for a $400 non-refundable deposit more important than his desire to restructure it to $300? Someone who doesn't assume that you'll continue to house/feed the animal for another 2.5 months without any contact from him? Someone who trusted that you'd turn down other offers for the snake while he disregarded keeping his end of the bargain?

Think about it. If you feel guilty keeping this guy's money, then allot it towards something truly worthy: spend an afternoon giving a free animal demo at a school; let someone who has been a good friend to you have one of those babies (or the female after she drops) for $300 off; donate that $300 to a worthy cause.

Yep, I definitely fell out of the wrong side of bed this morning...

I have to agree with Wes. Yes I believe you are entitled to keeping the money but from what I have read you don't know exactly what is going on with this guy. He could be a flake or not. I would give him credit towards the offspring and if he doesn't want that then you at least tried. Even if he does take that offer you aren't out any money. Maybe I'm a softie but if I can work it out where I am happy and they are happy then I will and in this case you won't just be taking his money (I know it was in the agreement).
I would prefer to deal with someone who will try to work with me than just say sorry that's how it is. Either way I think you are doing the right thing, I just think one way is a higher road.

I would charge a twenty percent restocking/relisting/inconvenience fee and give the remainder back. Thats the right thing to do in my opinion. Ask the buyer what he thinks is fair to do. If he doesnt come up with the same thing I mention then he's selfish and cares nothing about how he inconvenienced you and probably knew he'd be doing so all along. In that case go out to dinner and buy yourself the best and most expensive steak on the menu and send him the balance. Hey youre a college kid...ya gotta eat good.
 
I disagree Bill. The deal was for a NON-refundable deposit.

The credit is a good way to still keep the money, as he should, and still give a dumb--- something to hold onto.

It's a good compromise.
 
I have to agree with Wes on this one. Im a sucker and i feel bad for everyone when they do this to me, so i used to always send the whole thing back. But it has become a common problem so i now spell it out and stick to the deal. I think offering a credit is more than fare and it is what i do now.

The price was $1650 shipped. For ease of math say $50 was shipping and $1600 was for the animal. 20% would be $320. So would you send him a bill for $20?
