In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Tracking down a vendor at the Hamburg show??

Aren't venomous snakes for advanced keepers? I would think an advanced keeper could tell a dying animal from a healthy one. Not to mention an advanced keeper would have gotten contact info.

I'm starting to believe that you sir are no advanced keeper. This may be a blessing in disguise for you. If the snake would have made it you may have been envenomated at some point and I doubt that you have a supply of antivenin on hand for that particular animal. You may have been the one who ended up belly up in container. :shootfoot

Rather frightening, isn't it? Any beginner can walk into a reptile show and purchase venomous snakes. It's an accident waiting to happen, and most likely a highly publicized accident.

What does being an advanced keeper have to do with getting contact info? I've purchased venomous snakes at shows and not cared enough about who the vendor was to inquire.

I believe "garweft's" post was directed at me...:)

I agree and I believe everyone else will agree with your statement. But, it's considered "advanced" due to the potential risk it possess. The core basics/survival for any reptile comes down to right temps, humidity, husbandry, etc. Be it an eyelash, toad, salamander, constrictor, whatever...these basics need to be provided. I've been doing this for a number of years so I have good grasp of the basics...and I bit more :). In addition, I've owned other venomous snakes in the past. And "No", I'm not going to list out a resume of what I've owned.

Nope, I can't do that. I'm sure others can't as well and have been equally surprised. If you can "GREAT", maybe next time you can help me sniff out the sick ones.

No Contact info received:
Again, I've been doing this for years and NEVER had an issue. I never had a need to contact a vendor. In addition, the Hamburg show is CRAZY. This was one of their busiest shows to date. My objective, shared by others, is to look and get out as soon as possible.

At the end of day, it' a lessoned learned. It was a $200+ lesson versus thousands. I can live with that. I'm still a little pissed, but moving on...

Thanks to all who have sent me a PM... :) :)

It doesn't. My post was stating that I don't think anyone other than a very advanced keeper should be able to purchase venomous snakes. It was more of a reply to Matthew's post directly above mine than it was to the thread starter's post.

I didn't say a sick snake from a healthy one, I said a dying one. One that you claim was hours away from dying even in your expert care. Big difference there.

OK so I am stretching a bit on that that one. But it's important info when keeping track of bloodlines, animal history, etc. I would put it on par with feeding records, shed dates, and so on. It's importance does seem to vary depending on what type of animal it is.

The original post just gives me a weird vibe. Add that to the feeling I get everytime I hear the word Hamburg......

When this was started as a BOI post I wasn't going to go anywhere near it since I didn't think I can stay on topic and neutral. But since it was moved I don't have to worry about that so much.

End of the day, if aspen is the culprit why on earth even use aspen in the first place...

So you have husbandry down packed yet aren't sure if aspen bedding is an acceptable bedding?

What cage did you put it in?

Did you go looking specifically for an eyelash viper? Research it's needs? I thought you wanted a horned viper.
