Hey everyone,

My albino female has laid her 5th clutch of eggs today, and they look translucent. They do have the "bullseye" which to me means they are fertile, but they are not white, and the shells are very soft. Her first clutch was like this, the second were normal looking(both have since hatched), her third had one good egg(hatching soon), and one translucent, fourth both translucent, and now the fifth. We incubated all of the funny looking ones so far and no dice, as they either molded, shriveled up or turned green. Any clue as to what might be going on?

Thanks,
Tony

I have two that my female laid(her 5th clutch) and they are both translucent too. They both have been incubating 2 weeks and they are still plump, but soft, and they still look good, just translucent. I can even see red veins in them. Hopefully someone can shed some light as to why this happens??

Are you offering enough calcium? If you think their fertile but they’re soft and somewhat yellow, and feel thin it’s probably a calcium issue. If the female doesn’t get enough calcium she can’t produce strong eggs with thick white shells. You might want to add a dish of calcium in the female’s enclosure.

eggs

She does have a calcium dish in her cage and when she is fed they are dusted in calcium as well. This last clutch that my husband posted about there is only one eggs incubating, because the other looked terrible even had a green tint to it so I cut it open to investigate because that is what we did with her first clutch and they looked like hard boiled eggs inside, but this last egg that I cut open had veins and all in it even a little red clump....and I felt so bad:( The other one has a visable bullseye and is incubating. What do you think the chances of it hatching are?

Well the chances are probably not very good. Eggs that are soft felling don’t usually hatch. They mold over with in a few weeks. If it’s fertile the embryo will probably die w/ out reaching full incubation time. I wouldn’t throw the egg out yet though. Just let it be until maybe it hatches or you know for sure it’s gone. Best of luck.

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for the help.
