In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Trying again this year

The doppler says there are at least a couple of real, live babies in there....

That's great news, especially after slugging out twice! Not to derail your thread, but do you use any special technique when you use the doppler? I'm asking because I tried mid-Jan with my female that dropped her litter on Jan 30, and I got nothing (other than noisy feedback). Now, my girl did drop 16 slugs with less babies so maybe they were just hidden by the slugs?? :shrug01:

The thing with the doppler is you have to be right over the pulse source; so if you didn't "scan" over the live babies, you'd hear nothing. Also, some of the fetal dopplers advertise that they can be used without gel...but, IMO, its a waste of time trying to locate without it. Heck, I put mine right over my radial artery, and couldn't pick up the pulse without gel.

Just a quick update - Cass shed last week, and is probably getting pretty close (that's based on finding fetal pulses 42 days ago). I broke down and hauled her out so I could clean her cage 2 weeks ago...it wasn't bad, just some light urate stains on the paper; but I wanted it clean, and I wanted to get her on aspen before she dropped (makes the cleanup a bit easier, IMO). Looking forward to another litter of hypos (and supers).

As for the hog island boas - I don't think I've seen any copulation for 2-3 weeks. I didn't notice an ovulation, nor have I seen her in a heat conservation position. Could be too early...or it could be another year in the FAIL column.

The albino (different one than the one I bred last year) doesn't seem to have taken - again. She's an 04, and I have yet to get a litter out of her (good thing I don't do this poorly with bullsnakes and pythons, lol. Dumerils are the only boa I've had consistent success with over the years). The year has flown by, though, so it will be time to start pairing boas again in no time :ack2:

Speaking of dumerils - I did keep one pair, and I put them together for the first time in a few years. She's definitely looking gravid; and, if she holds true to routine, babies should be due around the end of July. I'm planning on checking her with the doppler the next time I clean her cage - I'm guessing I should be able to find them by now (I would have checked last time I had her out, but the battery was too weak)

Something that works for me with the gravid females is to cut that paper in half leaving a little over lap where they meet in the middle of the cage. That way if it's not really messy and just a little urates, I don't have to remove her. I just shoo her to the clean side, and go at the other side after that.

Gets a little tricky with TAZ, but the others never seemed to be bothered by it.

Sounds like you're going to have some busy days ahead of you. Good luck!

I forgot to update this. Cass gave birth to 24 live babies, 2 still borns, 3 slugs.
She was quite the protective mom - coiled, encircling the babies (kinda like a big momma python). I tried to hook her out, and she struck - hitting the door of the cage. Rather than let her hurt herself trying to fend me off, I put on sweatshirt and a pair of gloves, then hauled her out. She tolerated that pretty well, and didn't give me any grief when I cleaned her up and put her back into her cage.

The babies - well.....there are 6 normals, and 18 hypos; most of which are dark and ugly (I initially thought at least half the babies were normals, til I took a closer look in better light). Statistically, there should be approx 6 supers...but I'd be hardpressed to label any of them that way. They're going through their first shed now - about half of them are done - but they need to get a few more under their belts; maybe they'll start to look decent by Xmas (not that I plan on seeing them that long :>Puke<: )

sometimes dark and ugly babies turn out nice... sometimes..
Hey, at least you didn't get all slugs again!
;)

I thought most of the babies from last years hypo litter were unattractive....and I thought most of them were pretty darn nice looking a few months later. I do expect these to improve - but expectations and standards can be a b:censored:.
Cass isn't a bad looking girl, and I didn't put her with just any crappy looking hypo male...guess I should have let the motley have her, lol.
