In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well, that depends on what colour you like the most...with Tamatave's, you get a predominantly red or red/orange animal. With an Ambilobe, colors can range from blue stripes over a green background to red stripes over a yellow background and everything in between. Then you have Maroantsetra's, Ambanja's, Sambava's, Ankaramy's...the list goes on. You probably found out a lot from your web search...here's a site that will give you detailed descriptions.

http://chameleonsonly.com/ has a lot of nice pix; ALL my chams came from them.

The caging and environment needs WILL be more expensive than the animal itself...the ones from superior lines have no peer when it comes to sheer color, but they have very specific requirements and you can't cheat. They require a significant amount of your time every day, you can't just throw crix in. They can't be handled too much. The rewards are worth it, though. :)
Have you ever kept reptiles?

Well, you will have fun with these; Cresties need fresh air circulation too, so you probably are familiar with that. Chameleons need more fresh air circulation than even cresties, and they do best at a humidity level of around 80% which means misting at least once a day, depending on the ambient humidity of your house. I am by no means an expert, though. I'd suggest you do what I did when I first got interested in chams, and look around the internet for care sheets; there are plenty. One thing I can tell you, is there IS such a thing as an ugly Panther; you need to see pix of the parents. I'd want a pic of the dam's father as well if I decided to go with a private breeder to save cost.

yeh i know. i mist my cresties several times a day. the only real diff i can see is that they need more heat and humidity. i will probly make a full screen cage for it, im just trying to figure out what kind to get. not to worried about color. i think they all look cool. im more worried about the size the cham is going to get and how hardy it is. i dont have alot of room to devot to this one cham. so it cant be one of the larger types.

I think the sizes are pretty much the same; I don't recall having read that there is any significant difference in sizes between Panther locales.

As far as heat, adults need about 90 or 95 degrees at their basking site; babies need slightly lower basking temps. That's all the heat I provide and mine do fine. You put their lights and heat on a timer because it needs all shut off at night; the temp drop does them good as long as it's not below 68 degrees in your house at night.

I learned a hard lesson I'd like to pass on about buying WC animals...DON'T. My bad experience was with ATB's, but it applies. WC is unacceptably risky under the best of circumstances, especially with Panthers.

Take a look at these little gems...they are more friendly too

Howdy,

If you have room for 24x24x48 then you can comfortably keep a full-grown panther or a veiled. Those two are less tricky than a jackson or a fischer which are smaller and might do ok in a littler smaller enclosure.

Check out:

and in particular, the database:

i doubt i will be getting a panther. they are just alittle out of my price range. its between the veiled and the rudis. any thoughts on those two.

I'm sorry, but I'm not qualified to comment on either of those as I haven't kept them...I'm hoping somebody will help us here. :)

thats ok. im starting to notice that the traffic in this forum is low. but i can wait
Howdy,
I just sent you a private message with some info.

Dave

if you do not know much about chameleons i would suggest getting a veiled, i have found that they are the easiest to care for. also i might suggest a male. they get a lot bigger and you dont have to deal with the eggs that females will lay several times per year. males seem to be a lot less work to me.

well i have been looking up lots of stuff in the past few days. most of the info if very informative, but some is turning me away from the cham. i see lots of ppl saying that it will cost 600-1000 to get everything started. i find this a bit extream. i have scrap wood laying around at work, so im going to make a cage out of that, and take it from there. ill get lights and stuff in stages. it is looking like i will be getting a veild cham, but it wont be for a while. im gonna get everything i need first(good idea) and that might take a while.

another thing that conserns me is that alot of ppl say that they spend alot of money on vets. i do not plan on going to the vet unless it is nessasary. i hope this is not a animal that is sic often.

Panthers and Veiled's are supposedly just as hardy as one another, though veild's are more aggressive and eat more plant material. I bought my first Panther in March of this year, and my second and third in August. So far, none of them have been sick. If you keep their cage clean and take appropriate care of them, it has been my experience thus far that they are hardy. I'm sure my female will prove more difficult once she gets to the egg laying stage, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it by arming myself with knowledge just like you are doing. You're doing the right thing, looking and learning before you buy, I wish more ppl were like you. :)

I thought you'd never ask! I am in a rush atm; have to go to work but will post at around 4pm e.s.t. when I get back. Get this- I use Tinker Toys in their cages! I had more fun setting up their cages than I've had in years

OMG I completely forgot when i got home from work and now I have an appt, but lets do this right quick...first one is my Nosey Be/Ambilobe hybrid Charlie. The second one is Zeus, an Ambanja. Hera is the third, but as a young female she is pretty nondescript... They are wonderful; Zeus and Charlie take roaches right from the hand :) Keep in mind that Zeus is only 5 months old with that colour...Hera is four months now.
