In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Turtle? Can you name this Turtle?

Hey can anybody tell me what kind of turtle this is. I know the turtle came from Central America, Belize but beyond that I have no idea. I let it roam around my room and I feed it in the water you see it in and it seems to be doing quite well. Eats regularly is healthy. I love to here is clomp clomp on my wooden floor. Just wondering what type of turtle he is maybe I can provide a better habitat for him. Thanks

Where is the picture?

I could have sworn I uploaded it. Well here it goes again. Thanks

Mud Turtle

As I'm doing more research I'm thinking a Mud Turtle as well. So what do you mean by an aquatic set up?

BTW, I agree, it definitely looks like a mud turtle. They live in water, and cannot survive and thrive roaming around the floor of your room.

Interestingly enough, I went to Belize last year, I found 3 Kinosternidae turtles, all were away from standing water and roaming the forest floor. Admittedly, these were very wet forests in August. This is from Blue Hole National Park along the Hummingbird Highway. But year, some semi aquatic set up atleast is needed.

Didn't mean

I didn't mean to give the impression that He doesn't have access to water at all. He has himself a very nice large 5 inch pan of water on the floor that he can get out of anytime he likes. I did have him in an aquarium with a basking spot but he rarely used the basking spot and seemed to need more room so I moved him. He was quite often getting out of the water and roaming around then I would make sure to put him in. But yesterday when I filled the pan up to over his head he seems to be staying in it now. He can get out if he likes. I wonder if he could be trained to come to understand that he can get in when he needs his water. If this is a mud turtle which I'm sure it is they do a lot of wandering around when the weather is wet. So I'm trying to give him the best of his world. Thanks for the info. Peace

And again I ask the same question as on the other forum you posted, why are you getting animals that you do not know what they are or how to take care of them? Questions about setups and how to properly keep an animal should be addressed BEFORE aquiring an animal. While I do admire that you are asking now, I have noticed a trend. That said....

An aquatic/semiaquatic environment means they spent most of their time in the water. Diet is also a little different for an aquatic turtle vs a land turtle. I have had mud/musk turtles in the past and kept them for many years in aquariums filled 2/3 with water. UVB and vit D3 is a MUST for proper calcium absorbtion. Otherwise, it will suffer improper shell growth. I stress a MUST, there is no way around that necessity.

Thank you

Thanks I was a little concerned about his shell growth. I have offered him a basking area but he doesn't seem to like it to well. Yep 2/3 is what did the trick. He stays in it now. Hasn't got it out since I raised the level of the water. He gets natural sunlight also by crawling around or I can move his water area to be in the sunlight.

Natural sunlight that has passed through glass (i.e. a window or aquarium wall) is virtually useless to a turtle.

Not a Window Sunlight!

Hey the window is open for goodness sake. I have had the turtle for quite a while now and it is doing quite well and is healthy.

Hey Mr Mustard

If you wish to call somebody a liar maybe you ought to check out the facts first. I mean the real facts no hearsay from somebody online. This is starting to get real depressing aren't there any decent people out their anymore?

At first, I figured you for a simple person, who possibly just needed a little guidance. After I realized that you were asking the same stupid questions, on multiple forums, ignoring the answers, and lying about your identity.

At that point, you became a brick thick time waster.
