In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Underground Reptiles: Sick animal inquiry?

i do hope this works out to everyone's satisfaction. I am sure who ever came down from the state, was smart enough to see if any type of covering up had occurred. Although i have never been to there wholesale operation, i can tell you that there retail operation is kept exceptionally clean, free from odor and the employees seem to be very conscientious when it comes to taking care of the livestock.

I dont know if testing was actually done at UR or they do take some of the snakes randomly for testing. In either case. If in fact a clean bill of health has been provided to UR by the state of Fl. that should put a closure to it. Hopefully !

I have temporarily excused thamnophis123 from the forum for while.
without the accused able to represent themselves?
What purpose does the board of inquiry serve if it restricts the conversation?

The OP's current inability to respond here ultimately comes down to choices he'd made.
I'm sure that Pork realizes this fact, but for some personal reason wishes that the BOI rules not apply to thamnophis123, instead giving him a free pass. No one restricted the conversation except for thamnophis123 himself, despite repeated warnings. Currently, thamnophis123 has just shy of 22 days left on his ban, at which point he is welcome to resume posting.

The site's rules apply to all members, including you Pork. For example, having your real name on your account is a requirement. If you didn't put your real name in your account, others could easily and understandably question your motives here as well as your credibility. In your case, is the following profile information correct? :

If we are ever going to figure this out, we need the people with snakes shipped from UGR to get them tested. Otherwise, this thing is dead in the water since the inspection came up clean.

I am preparing to buy a tegu next summer and came to read up on Underground Reptiles because this would be a major investment for me. I have followed them on YouTube and Facebook, and noticed the comments are either love/hate. I think this is because of the owner's political and personal beliefs more than their care for reptiles or breeding aptitudes. My feelings are if you've had an animal, any animal for four months, and then decide to complain of illness it's on you. I breed Siamese and there is a reason why the breeding contract states it should have a vet checkup in 30 days or the warranty is invalid--a lot can go wrong with any animal whose care or husbandry is bad within four months. This reminds me of the FIP outbreak in the cat community. In the beginning there was hysteria, breeders were called out and shamed, and in the end they found that this "Cat AIDS" had to do with a retrovirus that mutates due to care and exposure to other conditions. Maybe UR did sell a snake with this condition, but its absolutely not feasible to keep prices low and perform $100's of dollars worth of vet checks before selling every animal. To make animal sales near risk free you'd make the price of animals outside the limit of what anyone would want to pay. As a breeder myself I do what I can: clean environment, good food, vet checks, supplements. I cannot make it 100% risk free. The best I can do is offer someone a new kitten or their money back IF the animal died through no fault of their own. But I want to see that they exhibited good care before I do so. If you bring an animal into your home and don't have it vet checked within a month, that's bad care, it's stupid, or you don't have the money. If you don't have the money, don't have animals.

Isn't underground reptiles a significant financial supporter of this site? Is that why this blatantly unfair practice continues?

Following the rules applies to all. New member and old, paid member or not. Rather than assume responsibility for one's own actions (infractions), it clearly must be the site's fault instead for having rules and playing favorites.

Perhaps some helpful information to those involved on this thread.
User Name: Pork
Pork listed his name as Don Thorston of Omaha, NE
His account information actually points to a: Thomas Hughes of Des Moines Iowa.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pork.hurts
(cover family picture is a stock photo)

Attached are screen shots of "Thomas Hughes" FB page as compared to another individual's page.

I'm thinking an IP check is in order. Looks like someone might be trying to bypass their ban.

Where are people coming up with this sort of false information? Is someone in their world who spends $25 a year really a BIG SPENDER?

I've heard of this disease but hadn't thought about those selling W/C snakes and the risks. As timoon said, I'm glad this has been brought up as I fear that it's quite contagious (from what I recall reading). And I would think that the sooner the source (Underground Reptiles) is notified (and stopped), the better.

This thread has a LOT of information.

You should read it in its entirety before determining what you believe should happen.

Well it's more than the entire value of his water snake collection, so that is a significant amount of money in that context.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am the guy who made the incorrect comment about Fauna having Underground Reptiles as a big advertiser. It was not Joe Monahan.

Guys, is all the schoolyard insulting about the value of people's chosen species really necessary? Some of us keep snakes worth thousands of dollars apiece, others just a few dollars apiece, but they are all snakes, and they are all species that each of us loves. Who the heck cares how much someone chooses to spend or not spend on their animals???

The important information in this thread is that there is a potentially catastrophic and contagious disease that has popped up in at least one vendor's stock. We should be focused as a reptile community on how to protect our animals, not on beating each other down.

True that.

Agreed, my husband cost nothing... should I just chalk it up to not worth the cost if he gets sick or needs surgery? Or just get another because "they're cheap"? lol

So far, this thread has proven only that Joe Monahan has SFD in his collection, and nobody else. I think all buyers should be very cautious when dealing with him.
