In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Okay so I posted a few days ago about my fat tailed gecko. I posted a couple of pictures on him and many people said that there was something wrong with him, etc.... Well he had his vet visit today and there's nothing wrong with him! THe vet said that it is normal to have the slit there (which is weird b/c ppl told me it was not supposed to be there) and also that they do poop from there (also ppl told me they don't). Umm I'm not sure what to say because I'm going to trust the vet, so maybe a few of you should do some more research. Anyway, he's doing good! Those dart-like thingys were actually shed that were coming off his hemipenis inside of him (apparently they shed that too!) And that the only thing is if they get in the way, to just soak him in water and gently brush them off. The only possible problem is if I don't soak him every now and then, he may have to strain a lot to get the poop past the hemipenis which can cause a prolapse. Part of the reason why it has lowered is because he is getting older. Well that's all folks!

I hate to say it but from the pics you posted the vet is wrong. If you went to a real reptile vet I hope you can get your money back.
That is not where the poop from or were the hemipis are. They are the in the two buldges at the base of tail. They poop from the vent.
In the pic that you posted the slit on you gecko was were his pre-anal pores are or were before they got cloged.

Did you see the pic I posted of what it should look like?

Here is your pic from the other thread.......The vet seriously said that is how it is supposed to look like?

I'm not an expert on geckos, not by a long shot...........BUT THAT LOOKS AWFUL!!
you need to call that vet up and tell him he's a quack! FIND A BETTER VET!

Weird... I don't know why he'd tell me the wrong info, unless it connects inside of him from the bottom. Anyway, he said it was fine. Rex does not look like the above picture when the vet saw him. This is what the vet say today, and it looks much better me thinks!

It does not connect inside of him and it does not look fine. Look at the pic I posted on one of my males, there is no slit or hole there, just the v shaped pores. They don't even indent. I don't know what will happen but hopefully it heals. I still think it could be or get infected.
Is he eating ok?
I seriously wonder if you went to a vet, I can't imagine they would tell you he poops out of that cut in his pores. But then again I have heard many stories of vets not knowing what to do with reptiles. Kinda scary really...

The thing is, with the pores there is a hole there because he probably got cut by the dead shedded skin that was there. It may have been the waxy substance they secrete and b/c there was dead skin in the way, it just kind of inverted inside of him leaving a cut. I've been using neosporin on him, and the cut seems to be healing up very nicely. I can actually see where the pores are now. The vet i went to is actually specilizing in reptiles. I had to drive two hours to see him. I don't know, but Rex seems to be healing pretty well and I think that's what matters. He seems to be doing fine, he ate like 7 humongo crickets today dusted in calcium and I've seen him drinking water. If it is infected, the neosporin acts as an antibiotic and I hope that it will continue to heal him. It seems to be getting better if anything, not worse.

Well im Glad he is getting better but If I were you I would NEVER go to that vet again. I agree with everyone else.....That is NOT normal and Its not connected in anyway and he does NOT poop out of it. I just feel bad for the little guy... I doubt that felt good. :ack2: .... Your his mommy and I know you want the best for the little guy.... I hope he heals with no problems! :) Oh and keep a eye out It might happen again and maybe you can catch it before it gets as bad as this. Keep us posted... I would love to know how he does.

I have never seen anything like that! Everyone is right, that is not where the poo comes out of. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this? How would it happen?
I'm glad he is doing better but if it gets worse, take him to a different vet.

Okay I know that 99% of the people here have done their research, I took offense to that because I did a year of research before I considered getting a gecko and I still do constantly. Like most of us here. That is not where your gecko poops from, if you were to go pick up a healthy leo where they didn't have any problems with their pores you would notice that there isn't anywhere for them to poop from their pores. What that vet told you was a bunch of bs, and I really dont see any "qualified" reptile vet saying something like that. Which makes me come to the conclusion that you either didn't take him or that vet is a crock. You are getting the best of info from this site, people who have cared for these animals for years and have more years experience than you are old. They know what they are talking about. As long as he is healing, and the problem doesn't arise again things should be fine, if you get the slightest thought that it may be happening again take him to another vet and get a second opinion, then get your money back from the first one you went to cause he didn't know what he was talking about. i personally would get a second opinion anyway.

I'm in agreement with Kristina on this one, if you did go to a vet, he needs to be put out of buisness, he's an idiot.

NO leo should EVER look like that, at all, if he's getting better awesome, keep him clean and warm. But do us all a favor never go to that vet again

That's why this forum is so great. Years ago you would have walked away with misinformation and never been the wiser. I would definitely copy this thread, especially the excellent pics and request a refund. Maybe that explains why the vet has been trying for years to have kids and it just isn't happening.
