In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Any new information about Prehistoric pets from Fountain Valley Ca??
I am looking to buy and animal from them but some of the old comments refer to them as a business with a lot of mites.
Does anyone know if this issue is better now?
Thanks for the info.

I got a pair of Blackheaded pythons from them in the summer of '07. The transaction was flawless. Both arrived 100% problem free. Correctly sexed, perfectly healthy, mite free, and feeding well on f/t.

Based on this one transaction, I would have no problem dealing with them again.

There is a post from someone on another site that went and visited their facilities.... they were not impressed.

MODS / Rich.... is it ok to post the link to the other site?

yeah.... I was a bit surprised but this guy visited them... then reported back. I wont be doing business with them.

OK, I will make this short and sweet. My wife and I went there probably 5 or more years ago, and my wife was almost in tears by the time we got back into the car. Large Iguanas in very small cages....We live close enough to visit once a month or so, and choose not to. We visited PP twice, with the same reactions, and vowed never to go again.

Supposedly there were two stores, one sold, both owned by different people now....could be better, but like I said, we never went back after the second visit.

I am the poster referred to in this thread. I visited Prehistoric Pets over the weekend and was incredibly disappointed in the appearance and care of the animals. Like David said, animals in very small cages as well as multiple animals in one cage, bad sheds, animals for sell or on display with genetic defects, dirty cages, and at least one animal with mouth rot. I was in dire need of frozen rats, and rather than even ask if they had any available I chose to purchase from another store even though it was much more inconvenient.

Thank you.

After these comments I will stay away from them.
Is a shame I was looking for the exact animal they have but I rather wait and look for another animal.
Good think I came to the BOI and ask before buying.
Thanks again.

I purchased a couple of balls from them 4-5 months ago and I was pleased with the animals. They arrived in good health and I have had no issues with them to date.

However, the animals did not come from them they were shipped from Florida...I believe Naples but I would have to check my records to be 100% sure on the city. I was led to believe that they had the animals in their care and never once was told that they were brokering the deal for someone else. I was not happy by this and when I asked who they came from they would not tell me their name only that they were one of the largest breeders with a great rep that has been in the business for a long time.

At the time I wasn't happy that they didn't tell me the whole truth but I am very happy with the animals. From reading this thread I guess it is a blessing that they came from the other end of the county after all.

The BHP's also came from FL, and I was told that it was their FL store. They don't have animals I want very often (I don't keep what they specialize in), but after reading a few comments, I may be more hesitant in the future. I would still like to see some photos or proof if possible, as like I said, my transaction was flawless.

I'm not sure if they have a store in Florida or not but they did admit that my bp's came from another breeder. I have a good idea who that breeder might be but could never really say for sure.

I have bought plenty of retics from them and never had any issues. They answer any and all the questions you have. I have spent thousands there and had nothing but smooth transactions and healthy animals would def. do business with them again. Great people if you ask me.

Thanks

You can post the link...but it is generally preferred that you copy/paste the content along with it (in case the information is deleted or moved). Screen shots do the job, too.

Please keep in mind, though, that most forums do not require full names to be posted. That means that, in most cases, the thread/posts will be anonymous - which becomes a problem when a link leads to a more involved discussion (as recently happened in another thread here).
I think I have seen a couple of posts describing visits to Prehistoric Pets, it might be worth doing a quick search to see if the information you saw on the other forum has also been posted here (links to other BOI threads would - IMO -certainly be preferable to outside forums)

Based purely on the quality of the animals i've seen i'd order from them again. Obviously living in the UK I can't comment on the facility etc but they have sent animals over to the UK many times and each time i've been personally involved, or been good friends with someone personally involved the animals have turned up correctly sexed, as described and of the highest quality. I've never seen any of their ball pythons, the only import orders i've been involved with/seen are of reticulated pythons. so again, no comment on the faciity, no comment on the quality etc of their Regius.

I just received a new reticulated python from Prehistoric Pets this morning. Shipping and communication were both great. The retic looks awesome and was correctly sexed. I would definitely do business with them again.

I've only been to the store in Orange County (soCal), I used to visit it frequently from 97-2000, did not have good experiences with the staff or how some of the animals were kept (one ex: a freshly imported black tree monitor that was out out for display, refused to eat due to stress and eventually died at the store), however, it was a long time ago and hopefully the management, staff and care of the animals has improved.

Do they have an actual store in Florida? Are they the same 'Prehistoric Pets' or is this two stores with the same name? Or a breeder with the name in FL seperate from the retail store in SoCal?

Thanks... but the poster from the other site has spoken up
