In regards to Upstates last reply...
Of couse people make mistakes, of course things may happen unexpectedly beyond our control...and most of the time those things are fairly easy to forgive and forget. However, I feel it's far to late for an apology. Like you said...umpteen pages later. Here is my best advice for you:
Take a moment - ponder why you got into this business...
If by chance it is because you have a deep down passion for the animals, then find every single animal you have in your care a good home...give them away if you have to. Then invest in a pair of baby Cornsnakes...educate yourself on providing them with the optimum care in captivity, feed them, hold them, raise them up into adulthood. Then...breed them...that's right, breed them. Feel the rewards of playing a role in captive reptile propagation. Then get your hatchlings feeding, hopefully by then enough time will have passed that you can again enter the hobby with no ill effects from the past...a fresh start!!
If you have already experienced the above, and still insist that ALL the animals you sell are sellable, and your customers are sometimes disposable, then the only solution for you will be to exit the hobby, or have the herp community show you the exit.
Trust me...many respected names in the business are working together with the Dept. of Agriculture and Fish & Wildlife right now as we speak...the "plan" as a whole will be recognized nationwide, and instead of people unfamiliar with the hobby writing/passing new proposals/bans/laws we will have educated people in the industry write them. Good news???? Heck yes!! For the good guys and girls...but these new guidelines will make it extremely difficult for junk dealers...not only will it be harder for them to get the animals to sell...it will be harder to sell them legally. These "reptile improvement" laws will indeed force many of today's vendors into finding a new line of inventory...say jewelry, maybe???
Some expo's may be smaller, and some classifieds may not have a million ads, but hopefully in the end, it will clean up the industry, and trust me...the "respected names" working on this
will obviously make sure that collectors/consumers will be protected and rewarded as well. Shhhhhhhh.........don't tell the bad guys.
