In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Our female Veiled gave us 34 eggs on the 10th. :hurray: But when we candle them, they are yellow inside but with a firm white shell. From what we have read, the eggs can go through diapause for any number of months. (Diapause being when the egg is yellow when candled but then becomes viable after "resting".) Some have said they can be like this for up to a year after they were laid. We are going to wait until they mold over until we discard them just in case.

Does such a thing as 'diapause' exist? How soon after receiving the eggs should it take to see the red/pink lines inside when candled? Any advice would be wonderful!

Dispause is not routine on Veiled eggs it is more for panthers and other species but not for Veileds.

Since they do take quite some time to hatch it can often be hard to see the veins at first. I do not recommend candeling of veiled eggs since they should be incubated in complete darkness. I started to see veins clearly within about 8 weeks without candeling the eggs.

You can refer back to this thread for the incubation process:

If they're white, odds are great that they're fertile. If they have some yellowing, or yellow spots, they are likely to be no good - but don't throw them away - I've had many like that hatch into healthy, big babies.

Regardless, bad eggs dont' last. If they don't mold over or shrivle, they're worth incubating.

eggs...

On my panther eggs it is pretty obvious which ones are fertile after approx. a week even when going through diapause. The fertile ones will start to grow and remain white while the infertile ones stay the original size and turn a yellowish tint. I don't discard infertile eggs though for a while just in case. I will post a picture tomorrow of a clutch that has some fertile and some infertile to give you an idea. Normally mold growth is a good sign of infertility. Anyway congrats on the eggs and good luck!

Pictures...

The following pictures show the noticeable difference between fertile and infertile eggs. These eggs are approx. a month old and still in diapause. By the way, these are panther eggs so they might be a little different. There were a total of 45 eggs in this clutch with about 10 infertile ones.

PanTHeRs you say!?

Thank you all for so much help with this!!! From what we can tell, they are all good except for one that has begun to mold over. We still weren't quite sure until we saw the pictures you posted JERM. They were an enormous help!!!

Soooo, when are those panthers due to hatch?? *wink wink* ;) How much are you looking to get for them?

eggs...

Tigres13,
Thanks for the interest in my babies. The eggs in the photo aren't due until the earliest late September, but I have a total of 122 panther eggs incubating right now. I have a clutch that was due last Monday but I haven't seen anything yet. I won't sell them until they reach around 4 months at least though. I can let you know when I have some hatch out if you want me to. On the price, I don't decide that until I have babies to sell but I will be reasonable. If I know that they are going to someone who will take care of them and send me pictures of them when they get older I will give an even better deal :D . I currently have Nosy be and Ambanja. Talk to you soon.
