• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

There seems to be a large number of viruses being passed around the reptile industry right now. I know that we have been bombarded with at least 15 E-mails a day that contained viruses. We have excellent virus protection software here but it is interesting to note that all of the viruses are originating from E-mail addresses that belong to legitimate reptile people. I'm also aware that at least one person got a virus that appeared to originate from Tribal Reptile, however it was later found that it did not originate from us, but our E-mail address was used as the sent from.  Please be VERY careful and don't open anything that you are not 150% sure is clean!! Anything with the file extension .pif or .exe should be VERY suspicious.

Be Careful!!!

.scr files can also carry viruses. I had one come in yesterday with this file designation. It pays to have an online virus scan subscription. IMHO

Quite frankly, anyone whom has an email address these days is nuts to be without good virus protection.  Get the latest version of whatever you are using and keep it updated constantly.

Also, with more and more people getting broadband, which will often give you a fixed IP address and an 'always on' connection, get a firewall.  Mine deflects hacks about every couple of days from people trying to access those trojan horse programs being sent as attachments to emails.  For those of you whom don't know, many of the virus attachments being blocked are of the 'trojan horse' variety that get installed on your computer and then sit in the background running merrily along.  Then a hacker will do an IP scan looking for an address that is running this program.  Once they find one, your computer is an open book to them and they can take it over and do as they please.  In many instances, they then use YOUR computer to launch even more trojan horse programs being shielded from being identified by using your computer.

Keep on your guard!

I too have been getting bomb barded by viruses lately. My have all been sent as file attachments with nothingelse. About 5 a day lately. Just been using the delete button alot.

Yes, It is happening to us also. Last week several emails were sent to other businesses within the herp industry that contained viruses. The person(s) who did this put our email address in as the sender. Our systems are protected, and after a thorough screening of our systems no viruses were detected.

Thanks,

Worms head for the first contact in your address book!To find out if your computer is sending the worm to others, do this!!! Go to your address book and click on"add a contact",then for the contact"s name, type in" !000". Yes that exclamation mark zero zero zero!Than for the email address, type in"wormalert"@whatever.com.Now this contact, which doesn't exist, will be first on the list that the worm will attack! When the worm tries to sent to this contact, you will be notified that message could not be sent, email doesn't exist! Now you know the virus is in your computer. If you have more than one email carrier, then repeat this procedure to all of them!!!Hope this helps people to take care of this problem!!I'm recieving them to,and my "bug catcher",McAfee.com,keeps holding his hand up with a big bug in it!!!!

And you folks laugh at me for ONLY having WebTV??? I THRIVE ON VIRUSES!! WebTV is Virus-PROOF!! Come on....give me your BEST SHOT!!

Neil,

That is like driving a horse and buggy so you can laugh at all the people complaining about gas prices.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>  Great solution except if you want to do something fun <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Talk about living in the Dark Ages!!! Before I got my computer, I was getting on-line via a Sega Dreamcast. Talk about being as useless as a bent dipstick.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

i have gotten bombarded with viruses and sadly had put in an ad and dont know whom is writing back or what is going on.
wonder how i should handle it...humm.
paranoid to open any mail now.

that was a great suggestion about putting the false email addy at the top of your contact list.  my problem is that i am being told that people that are not on my contact list, in fact people i have never even heard of in the herp world are getting emails that supposedly originate from me.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>?
frustrating.

HEADS UP !!!
Mine originated from [email protected]
He/she sent me w32.Elkern.4926 AND w32klez.gen@mm

I purposefully infected my computer....thought it would be fun..  UNTIL...I found out that this virus somehow affects my antivirus (Norton 2000).  It turned it off....then when I would start it...it will turn it off again.

But I have other antivirus I was able to use (they are also up to date).....It was great fun.  I like to pretend that I am a computer expert every now and again......It gave me something to do last night.

To tell you the truth....I usually let my wifes old computer get infected....then I start playing around with it....(battling it).
This is the first time I let my own computer get infected.

The risk of having my $1500 dollar computer be at risk at going down was quite an adrenaline rush. (Sorta like having sex in public places)

Anyway...I think this person purposefully sent me this virus...
It was not sent the way an infected person USUALLY sends it.
USUALLY...they have an underscore (_) at the begginning of their address.  THIS ONE DIDN'T.  So it was either sent purposefully or this virus is one of the better ones out there.
One of the two viruses listed also tried to access my internet connection.....but my firewall stopped it.

wait a minute....I have written to this guy before  [email protected]

I think he is on the west coast.......
Arizona to be exact...........
Pheonix to be exacter.........(luv my gooder inglish)

I think these might be one of the more sofisticated viruses...(impressive)

If I had the brains to write these viruses....I could do so much good

Well glad to see its not only us... we have a trojan horse lodged in our computer right now.. WE CAN'T GET RID OF IT! It keeps changing its name, norton will quarantine it and we reboot and there it is again under a new name.  Luckily at home we're on dial up so we're not continuously connected.
We've been doing all our e-mail correspondence at work and off our other (piece of junk) computer.. if anyone can tell me how to get rid of this thing I'd appreciate it!

Funny you should mention that Ritchie, This is one of the more clever viruses.  It disguises the senders name and can scavenge your whole comp for email addys, not just your address book.  You also don't have to open the attachment to get it (there is a IE patch out there right now to fix it).  I just deleted it the messages but I was pretty sure I had it because (1) I have had it sent to me about 20 times now, and (2) I have gotten back two undeliverable emails that I NEVER sent, one to an email I have never heard of.  My Computer is offline now until I know its clean (I'm at work now) but the funny thing is I have run Norton, Macafee, and 2 online companies virus scans and they all say I'm clean.  Could it be that I got the returned undeliverable emails that were sent by another user that the virus described as my email because it picked it up in anothers address book?  I'm not sure that's even possible.  Who knows.  I think its about time I back up my mp3's and format the drive anyway.  Oh well...

Worm deletion.
If someone already posted this, sorry for the repeat. I've spent the whole day figuring out how to get rid of this worm and update my Norton AntiVirus. Phew!
However, if you go to :
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixKlez.com
worm destruction tool

(at the link provided) you can get rid of your worm. Save it to your desktop or a floppy disk. Best to run the tool twice. (takes  awhile depending ont he amount of junk -metaphoricly speaking-on your computer) once in normal mode and once in safemode.

You can reach safe mode by inserting a nonbootable floppy and restarting your computer. When it tells you an error ocurred, eject the floppy and press the F8 button on your keyboard until the you are provided with a startup option. Choose SAFE MODE.

Well, I'm finally clean and I hope this helps everyone else too!!

Best Wishes,
Laura

p.s.  the virus I got was one of the "sophisticated" ones.
It infected the guy and e-mailed me using his e-mail.....but changed his name...

sorryfor jumping the gun....didn't mean to make everyone think he did it on purpose...again..I apologize to the guy....I just can't remember his name....but I remember wanting to buy some of his HIGH quality snakes.

the virus being passed around is not sophisticated enough to put your name on the subject line....

The one someone just tried to send me...had Hi Ritchie on the subject line....  This one had to be on purpose
here is the info......then again I could be wrong....  I just have not seen one include my name in the tittle

people...please, please, PLEASE use filters!

filter all emails with an attachment ending in .scr to the TRASH

turn OFF the preview pane in outlook and outlook express

this along with running an antivirus program will save you hours of pain and annoyance. Doing a regular backup of your system is also a good idea (or at least your important data files)

If you have winXP or millenium, please be advised that if you do a system restore there is a chance that you can still be infected. Microsoft in it;s infinite wisdom locks everyone out of it's restore file which means Norton and all the rest can't get in there and clean stuff out.

I know not everyone out there is that tech savvy, so if you have questions about this kind of stuff, shoot me an email...I used to work for Symantec  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
