    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am not really picky...I am looking for a baby turtle or tortise for my classroom. I am hoping to find one close by so that I can for go the shipping cost or keep it low. Thanks for any help!!!

Just a suggestion - instead of a baby, get an adult Stinkpot Musk turtle. Adult size is usually less than 4" and babies are often fragile and die. I would hate to see your children upset by a dead baby.

Stinkpots make great, interactive pets, and can usually be purchased for $20 or less.

Now I'll quit muddying up the classifieds ;)

Thank you to Kristaina for your suggestion. I have looked into a number of different turtles now. I have a middle school classroom so I am dealing with a little more mature group.

John just sent you an e-mail.

thank you both of you!

classroom turtle

I'm a teacher and also a turtle person. If I were taking a turtle to my classrsroom, I'd take a Russian. Aquatic turtles will have you cleaning out the tank all the time, which can be very messy process. Box turtles, while mainly terrestrial, still require enough water to bathe in, which will need to be changed very often. The Russians, of course, require care, but their needs are much more easily met in a classroom environment. They also stay small. You also want to think about how you'll deal with breaks, as far as transporting them home and having a habitat there as well.

Thanks Kelly for the suggestion. I actually have a number of pets that I have used back and forth in classes, so I am used to transportation. I hadn't thought about a Russian before. I will take a look at them.

Thanks!

I have had my Russians for many years with very few issues. Of the 10 turtles I have, one of the Russians is my hands down favorite as far as personality. They may not be terribly flashy or colorful, but they're active and inquisitive, and their needs are much more easily met then most. They're a great beginner turtle. Do make sure, though, if you go with a Russian, that it's captive bred. There are many, many wild caughts out there and you don't want to add to that problem.
