No you don't. I didn't have to when I handled the issue with my rats. As history has shown, they own up to their mistakes, but getting them to address and investigate their mistakes is the challenge.
I don't see how trying to hinder owners for looking for the answers to their pets death is beneficial.
I dont see why not, coming from a medical background, it would make sense to have a necropsy done, so you have professional proof that the food was a direct link to you're animals death, leave no stone unturned when trying to fight a company like this, otherwise they have the option of poking holes through your whole claim.
