In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just wanted to let everyone know a few things about Diana Mason or here at Fauna she advertises under Gracie and her E-mail addy is [email protected]

I responded to an ad Diana Mason had out on Fauna for some reptiles she wanted to sell. I was interested in the White lipped python so I inquired on it. We worked out a deal and I sent the money Paypal that night. The next day a friend of mine E-mailed her to see if he was still available and on Christmas eve she wrote back and said Yes he is and did she want to buy him? I wrote Diana and asked for a refund. She wrote back and said She knew it was me and just wanted to see what would happen if she said he was still available and see how far this would go. She also said She would ship on Thursday 12-26-02 and she did.She E-mailed me with a tracking number from the post office so I called to see why it hadn't arrived yet. The post office informed me that the package was sent Express but it takes 3 days to get to Phoenix when shipped from her area. She just wrote me to inform me the animal is packed with a 36 hour "Hot Hands" Heat pack. She also informed me that the post office said it will take 1-2 days for the snake to arrive and anything over 2 days will be a post office mishap. I want Everyone out there to know whats going on. I mean why would you ship an animal with a 36 hour heat pack when you where told it could take 2 days. Another big question in my mind is why you would ship an animal in this cold in a way that is other than overnight? She admits it will take 1-2 days and thats too long. Had I know this I would have had her wait and NOT KILL this animal. Please HELP me!! I know this E-mail kinda rambles on but I'm angry and don't know what I can do. I will keep you updated with what happens in the next few days. Please E-mail me with any ideas on how I can get this Resolved.

more questions than answers, but...

1) If the animal was shipped on Thursday, is that 2-3 calendar days or mail delivery days?

2) Can you contact your local post office and ask them to hold the package there so you can pick it up, rather than send it out for home delivery? That may save hours or even a full day.

3) Did you pay for shipping on this animal, and was the method of shipping discussed? (Overnight, Delta Dash, etc.)

4) Did you ask your friend to email and inquire about the snake the day after paying for it? If so, why?

Since the post office will not knowingly accept an animal for shipping, what was her point in explaining that more than 2 days would be post office mishap?

I'm sure there will be lots of opinions posted about how this deal went wrong, but right now I hope your priority is trying to get delivery of this animal while it's still alive. I don't know where she is shipping from, but if those heat packs give out, that puts the animal in a critical situation.

Please keep us posted on how whether you get this animal in time to keep him healthy or not.

Terese raises some valid points, but I'll go one further:

Why did you agree to participate in a federal offence? Shipping a snake through USPS is a CRIME, the people who do it are CRIMINALS, and the people who allow it to be done by receiving snakes in this fashion are ACCESSORIES to the CRIME!

I hope the snake gets to you OK for the sake of the animal, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for anyone that gets taken by someone when they BOTH were willing to committ a crime in the transportation of an animal. I'm kinda funny that way, I guess.

:(

She is shipping from pensylvania.
I thought about having the post office hold the animal but they will deliver the animal on Sunday insted of waiting to pick up on Monday at the post office. The heat packs will give out around 2 or 3 am tomorrow morning. The thing that worries me is the post office won't deliver until around 3 pm on sunday. Thats another 36 hours or so in the cold with no heat pack. I did pay for the shipping along with the animal through Paypal and the animal was supposed to be sent overnight. I just don't understand how anyone could endange a harmless animal like this.

I was told the animal was going to be shipped overnight but she never told me what method she would use.

Isn't the main problem SHIPPING VIA USPS??? That's ILLEGAL!! IF IF IF the animal dies in transit.... there is absolutely NOTHING the PO will do for you! NOTHING!.... that's very dumb!

....Neil

Then why wasn't THAT one of your major concerns listed in your intial post? She gave you a tracking number for the USPS, you contacted your Post Office to see what was going on, and you only complain about the lack of heat on a 2-3 day shipment? I'm sorry, but that just seems incredible to me!

If I want to buy some furniture from a friend of mine, the fact that I didn't KNOW he was going to steal it from someone's house doesn't make me any less guilty of receiving stolen goods!

You can dress it up any way you like, but if you did not immediately throw a fit about her shipping USPS and report her to them upon knowledge that she went ahead and did it, then, IMHO, you are just as guilty as she is. Sorry, but that's the way I see it, and I'm afraid nearly any court in the land would see it that way too.

I hope the snake is OK --

when she said she was going to ship I trusted that she was going to do it in a safe and legal way. I didn't know the animal was sent usps until today when she sent the tracking number and told me so.

So Darrin your suggestion is to report the illegal shipment to USPS? and then demand a refund?

OK, if that is true, are you going to report the situation to the Post Office, or just let them deliver the snake to you in violation of the law? I hate to be so blunt about this, but you have a dilemma on your hands. You can either be honest and upright in accordance with the law, or you can get your snake dilevered to you as if there is nothing illegal happening here. This other person made her choice as to what type of individual she is, but now it's your turn. You say you just found out today? Fine, The ball is now officially in your court. What will you do with it?

You were likely given a price for shipment, right? How much did she charge you for it? Did she rip you off? How much was the shipping charge?

"So Darrin your suggestion is to report the illegal shipment to USPS? and then demand a refund?"

That is EXACTLY what I would do, knowing that I may never get my money. However, I could look at myself in the mirror and know that I did the right thing. I also would know that I helped to stop an irreputable person from doing this to someone else.

But hey, that's just the way I would do it...

Total cost on the White lipped python was $100 shipped!!! We never discussed the shipping cost. I was just asked for $100 and she would take care of the shipping.

*takes a deep breath*

Robert, I know it seems like everyone is blaming you for this, but....well, you're the only one here that's involved in the deal.

I'm still insisting that the primary goal is to get the snake ALIVE, but I'm not sure how you can expedite receiving the animal.

I applaud Darin's stance on informing the USPS of the illegal shipment, but just to clarify....if the report is made to the USPS that the shipment contains a snake, will that create a situation within the USPS that would delay or stop Robert from receiving it? If the report prior to receipt would further reduce the chances of receiving the animal and thereby giving it a chance to survive, I'm not sure I'd be able to make the report until after I had the little guy safe and sound somewhere.

Robert, I understand getting a "$100 shipped" price and just paying it. However, I think it's always wise to verify details. You assumed it would be sent overnight via a safe and legal method. In the future, please take the extra time to verify the packing and shipping of the animals prior to sending off that payment.

It sounds to me as if you had some doubts about this person before she even sent the snake...at least I can't think of another reason why you'd have your friend email and ask about the availability of the snake you just bought.

More questions: Have you notified the seller of this thread? She should have the opportunity to come here and explain herself.

Are you able to track this shipment online with USPS? Do you know if it's going to be delivered Saturday or Sunday with certainty? Do you know what delivery date was promised via this method of shipping?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for this animal. Have you checked the temps for the areas the snake will pass through after the heat packs expire?

If it is reported, both the shipper, and receiver will be fined. I've seen it happen with a shipment of parrotlets. The fine was $1,000

Snakes and turtles are illegal to ship this way. You can only ship chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, doves, pheasant, and other poultry and their eggs, some amphibians, and some lizards via USPS. Everything else is illegal, and both parties face a jail sentence and fine.

I didn't really have anything signifigant to add to this until I saw that line right there...

D'alberts sure aren't the most expensive snakes around but $100 shipped for even a neonate or a WC animal covered in scars seems amazingly low for a single animal...

Then there's an inappropriate shipping method used without prior knowledge or consent of the buyer.

Then it's sent over a weekend.

Then the buyer is informed that the heat packs won't last and that any problems are the result of carrier mishandling...

Did she state that any acts of carrier mishandling would void any guarantees that the animal should have come with? Like maybe live delivery?

The seller hasn't yet spoken to this situation and nobody has come forward deffending her business ethics or history so I really must ask...

What are the chances that she had a dead D'alberts sitting in a freezer and decided to run you for $80 or so after her shipping costs, blaming it on someone else and using the cheapest method possible to ship because she knew there was no danger of a dead animal dying again (and because as far as I know, it's legal to ship snake products, belts, boots, hatbands, skeletons, corpses on ice, etc.)?

Not saying that it's the case since there has as of yet been no rebuttle... just, a few people have tried similar things before and for some reason this post made me think of those situations...

The USPS delivering on Sundays? Where do you guys live? I have never heard of such a thing in my area.

On a side note I would have to agree with what was said. Although Darin's intentions are commendable I wouldn't try to teach the shipper a lesson if that entails risking the snake's life.

Best regards.

USPS delivers on Sundays when it it express mail. I order a lot of birds online, and have them shipped via USPS, and yes, they do deliver 365 days a year.

I live in Phoenix Arizona and I called several times to verify that they do deliver on Sunday. They said they will only deliver express packages on Sunday though.
