Watch-Out! LLL Reptiles selling USED items as NEW!

I know how these threads can get quite lengthy, so I'll try and keep it short. It's not worth discussing "what I said, and what they said" through a phone conversation...It's pointless. As I stated in the beginning of this post, I'm not going to start "name calling," I think the pictures of the heat panel speak for themselves.

As we explained to him then, and I will repeat now, all of the radiant heat panels we have sold over the last few months were unused.
It's quite apparent from the photo it isn't new. It boggles my mind how someone could look at the heat panel, convince themselves it's new, wrap in bubble wrap, ship it out, and think that someone on the other end wouldn't notice the dings, stains, scratches, and the dirt.

discoloration around the edges from the product just sitting on shelves
Please explain the crack on the one corner (again this wasn't due to shipping. the crack has a yellow discoloration around it).

I have dealt with them multiple times in the past with no problems whatsoever.
Good for you. I guess I'm not as lucky. I'm definitely not the only one who would've been annoyed receiving a panel in that condition. YES, I will call Scott, at LLL Reptiles, tomorrow to discuss this in further detail.

On this board, you often see people being taken advantage by others. People sending the "wrong" animal, sending dead animals, the wrong product, misrepresenation, etc. I honestly didn't expect it to come from a retail store. I thought they would've had the integrity of some other well known stores. I'm interested to see how this turns our tomorrow...

well

what ever happened? did you get a refund or replacement or ??
i was curious, because i almost ordered one of those panels too.

I am not one to defend bad service at all and I don't want this to be mistaken for an excuse as to why you recieved a used panel. I feel that maybe since they did buy them from Pro-Exotics.....maybe they didn't check every panel in the boxes they recieved or sent out.

It could be a possibility that they didn't open it, which they should have before sending out. What I am trying to say it could have been lack of double checking the product. It really should be a quick resolve. Send the unit back in exchange for a new one(double checked for beoing used).

Sometimes mistakes happen, it is what happens after the mistakes have been made that make all the difference in CS.

Happy Holidays!!

I bought a baby Sorong Chondro from LLL at the MARS show which they assured me was CB and feeding well. After the fact I find out their Chondros are farm raised and imported, and my baby has only eaten once on his own, we have been using a pinky pump since. I put it off as my own stupidity for giving someone a few hundred dollars before digginf for all my information first. Although I had previously heard good things, and didn't they they would misrepresent animals like that. So just a my little experience with LLL, I don't think I'll be buying from them again.

This is allot of nonesense with LLL

I think a buyer is required to know the difference between unused and new. Taking it one step farther, if their is a history with a product, it should be brought to the attention of the buyer before the purchase is made.

From LLL their always seems to be a portion of their story "left out" I dont know if their is a requirement on the part of the buyer to guess why . But unless you bring it to the BOI , you will never get a straight answer from these people. They seem to be to busy, to many emails, to much business. but their reputation is finally catching up to them.

They have the audacity to indicate that they dont frequent the BOI . This is another "I dont care" type of attitude that they exemplified when I had my difficulties with them. Their arrogance, their poor customer service and their attempt in trying to get away with as much as they can seems to be the only order of the day they know how to deal with.

That really sucks. I have bought animals from "brokers" and pet shops and I am not currently in the market to buy anything right now. Though when I do...I will buy from the actual breeder or someone that I have built a rapport with(not for 15 minutes over the phone) and know for certain the history of the animals.

It really sucks when folks misrepresent their animals in any shape or form. I recently had a problem with someone that has a great feedback response misrepresent their animals. I didn't make a big deal out of it on any public forum but it wasn't as bad as someone saying that they are selling $300+ animals as CB. Needless to say I will never buy from that guy again and he lost all respect from me. Just my little lesson in purchasing after 10 years out of the hobby (things have changed).

I am not saying that all shops or brokers are bad but when you spend a big chunk of change you had better get honesty, service and animal that you will be happy with from day 1. None of these things can be policed so it is up to the buyer to be aware.

Happy Holidays!

Not to keep this thread going but had to put in my two cents in here.

I don't want to get 'sided' here at all but LLL has come on to offer a refund. I would tend to think that this would be true, as well, if it had been brought up in the first place with the first phone call. Most businesses (especially larger ones) selling items will give you a refund, replacement, or store credit if you are dissatisfied with a product. Perhaps the panel should have just been shipped back and a replacement accepted. Had the new one shown much of the same wear and tear it could have, again, been sent back and a refund taken instead of a replacement.

I can understand several people having bad experiences with this and any other sellers but I feel that in this instance a simple replacement/refund would have done the trick instead of the post here with the title "Watch-Out! LLL Reptiles selling USED items as NEW! "

If someone is going to buy something from us and not be satisfied I would like to think we'd be contacted first for a resolution instead of being marked as a bad seller anywhere.

Lastly I'd like to offer a little bit of advice. Buyer - please don't think this is against you. I am just making a general comment about shopping around in general. It just so happens this seems to be the right thread for this.

If ever you see "limited supply" use your judgement and try to determine why that would be. If they have a limited supply it is because they won't be getting any more in afterwards. They have a box full in the back and they are selling the contents of it. Once the box is empty the box is empty. There are several reasons this could be - the seller is no longer carrying that company's product; the product is no longer being manufatured; the seller bought from a liquidation; the seller had the opportunity for a special one-time deal, and so on and so forth.

If it's not one of their regular products it didn't come in through their regular channels.

I totally agree that when you buy new you should receive new. But when you buy at discount you should expect discount. I'm very sympathic to those who have bought animals that were not what they expected. I'm very sympathetic to those who have bought a product and received something they were not expecting. But it's the name of the game. You'd take the product back to the store if it was around the corner and ask for a replacement - you can certainly do it when buying over the internet as well. It's why sellers have terms.

I recently bought a heater for emergency purposes. I got home and plugged it in and it didn't work. Did I come on to the BOI or any of the forums here (it's for keeping snakes warm in case of a heating failure so it's herp related) to start a bad guy thread about WalMart? No - I took it back and got it replaced. It happens!

Buyer (sorry, not good at remembering names!) - I'm sorry you got a POS product. I would suggest just returning it and getting a refund. Nothing else you can do but chalk it up to a bad experience. Of course...if it works, it's still not a bad deal on a used/aged one! :)

I hope everyone who might buy from LLL in the future has a better experience than those that posted here.

BTW - just curious - why did you buy the animal you bought from LLLReptile? Was it cheaper than most of the reputable breeders you looked at? Shopping for a better deal or you just happen to buy from them because you never had before? Just wondering!

All have a good and safe weekend!

How did the panel come packed?

Could someone have returned a heat panel to Pro Exotics, or LLL, and the business in question not noticed that it was used, and not new at the point of the return? I do not know if a returned item gets scrutinized at either place. I would guess it would not be impossible for someone to have purchased a heat panel from LLL or Pro Exotics, been dishonest, returned the heat panel, and put a used one in the box???do they come in a box, or are they just a panel sitting on a shelf?

I have had no problems with LLL, but most of my purchases have been lights, heat elements and the like. I live close by, and usually buy my rats there too, and look around the store. The Escondido store is incredibly clean for a pet store, and the animals look pretty good. I did see an Amazon Tree boa that looked really bad, but that was several years ago, at the Oceanside store. I purchased a pair of Lineatus there several years ago, and the female actually laid 4 good eggs, two at a time, that hatched. They do carry CB animals because they bought a litter or partial litter of Hogg Island Boas from me, so if they have something you want, make sure it is CB if that is what you are looking for, and get in writing, a CB guarantee.

The Outcome

Hi Everyone,

So I spoke with Scott, at LLL Reptiles, the other day. He apologized for the condition of the unit. He remarked that they did come from Pro-Exotics…some in boxes others NOT. I told him I was shocked upon opening the box to see a unit wrapped in bubble wrap. I expected it to come in its own box with a company logo.

It still bugs me that a store clerk could look at this item, and think it was “new.” The pics tell that story. I was refunded some of the money, and it ended-up costing me what I would expect to pay for a used panel.

If you order a heat panel, just ask that it comes in box. :hehe:

Scott , thanks for being understanding of the situation.

Regards,

Vake Jairam

About LLL

Truthfuly i think LLL is a bunch of scam artist, I have purchased 5 Animals from them 2 amazon tree boas which came in very good health and eat right away, 2 croc skinks wich died only a few days after i got them, they would not eat they had no energy, they acted more like slugs then anything, i also orderd a SUPPOSAL C/B Green Anaconda but when i got it you could tell it was W/C loaded with parasites from head to tail ive had him 3 weeks now and still cant get him to eat i have to now spend alot of money for panacur and treat him my self, which i should not have to do if i bought him under the terms of being W/C i would have no problem treating him but the ad for the green anacondas say C/B baby green anacondas. so any of my future business will NOT be through LLL. they can kiss my ass. if any body would like to see pics of the supposal C/B anaconda please email me at [email protected] and you can see for your self thats its not C/B. i vote a nation wide boycott on LLLReptiles.

helix panels are junk anway... the true pro product radiant heat panel is the way to go.

Either way its sad to hear that LLL is being shadey... they are local here in San Diego and I go to there store all the time... i guess its only a matter of time untill people try to make a quick buck?? HOpefully they make things right for you

Lll

:hot:
I purchased from them 1 week ago, i didn't get what i ordered from them, but they charged me for the item anyway. They said they put it in the box. Granted it was only a $5 item, but they treated me like i was a liar, when i told them it wasn't in the shipment. Why would anyone in there right mind tell someone a $5 item was not in there shipment if it was?
These people are very rude. They questioned me with so many questions about my item not being in there. They said the paper showed it had been put in with the other items, and i must have thrown it away with the box.
I don't know how they get away with treating people like they do. I guess they just don't really care. And whats up with the shipping?????? At the end when you go purchase, it says, shipping might change, will notify you if it does?????? They add on money for shipping weight, because it is not the same at check out??????
I guess they feel one buyer is nothing. But at least there is word of mouth. :raspberry

It sometimes helps to let owners or store managers know of the rude behavior of their employees. I don't spare anyone. Good customer service is hard to find but if I was an owner of a store and found out that one of my employees was being rude, I would give them Trump's famous words, "You're FIRED!".

It is always nice to compliment good service as well. :smokin:

My 2 cents-

I feel after reading things such as this about LLL REPTILE, I should give my opinion of them as a business. The story goes: Not too long ago, after searching and comparing prices I decided on trying to buy 2 red eyed croc skinks from thier business- a male and a female. From the get go, the girl I talked to was nice and all, but when she put me on hold, the phone hung up and when I tried calling back, the business was closed. Because of my busy life, I was a bit frustrated to not get a call back at all. So, when I called the next day, i talked to a SERIES of people who in my oppinion had very bad customer service and an "I dont care" attitude, but whatever...just wanted to make the purchase. I was unhappy so far, but alas the transaction went through and I was excited. The 2 arrived the next day, and instead of using 2-3 heat packs that I had PAID for, there was only 1. In addition, the 2 containers were shipped on thier sides w/ the animals and they were so packed full of shredded paper, that I'm surprised that the herps got air at all. Paper was even hanging out of ones mouth! Beyond that- I realize that croc skinks "play dead", and reptiles in general are adapted to shut down organs in order to survive and such, but these skinks were ON THE VERGE of dying!! I had called, being the herp and animal lover I am, and let them know that I recieved the 2 this way, and that they were in really bad condition in my oppinion, but they were seriously RUDE AS HELL to me, even though I should have been the one mad. They would not let me talk to the manager or owner either. All and all...I would NEVER buy from LLL REPTILE ever again and I advise that everyone be aware also. The 2 red eyed croc skinks are better than ever now, and because of my experience, they have successfully been rehabilitated and thrived in thier new environment... but it cost ME (not LLL..) alot of time and money. Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.

Do you have pictures of the animals as they looked when you received them, the box and heat pack, and pictures of how they look now?

I have been doing business with LLLReptiles for about 10 years. I have never purchased a live animal from them, rather, I purchase reptile supplies. I have probably ordered from them about 10 - 15 times. On two occasions there were problems with my shipment, and on both occasions LLLReptile took care of it promptly. Once, I received a ceramic heating bulb that didn't emit much heat. They had me mail it back to them and they replaced it with new item. Another time I ordered some radiant heat panels and they never arrived, although the mail carrier said they left it on my doorstep. We filed missing shipment paperwork and they took care of that too. In each instance I was treated courteously and the matter was handled promptly.

I've bought a few supplies and LOTS of crickets from LLLreptiles and really never had a problem. When my crickets did arrive one time with an unacceptable number of DOA's, I called them. I didn't call within the specified amount of time so I expected nothing to be done about it. For some reason I had been distracted (my own fault) and didn't call for a few days. I just felt that I should at least let them know that if I received an order like that again that I would take my business elsewhere.

The conversation never even got to the point of my being upset. After mentioning the condition of my order, the rep started asking me questions. I couldn't believe how polite the young lady was that I spoke with, AND she reshipped my entire order that same day. I think I may pay a few more cents for my cricket orders with them than I may with a few others that I've checked on, but with the customer service that I have received, they'll keep me as a customer!

I always buy my supplies from LLL....it's been many years since I ordered any animals, but when I did, I was more or less satisfied. I've always gotten supply shipments promptly with no problems. I've never called them but they seem to be quick with email communication.
