In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm getting into the leopard geckos with my girlfriend... well I guess I should say I'm already in the leopard geckos with around 20 breeders and 35 babies. The babies are getting to the age to sell. I just love all the morphs and every little gecko we have. Well, thats about me... now to my question. I have a domain name and hosting for my website but the templates they have do not serve my purpose. I want to spend no more than 200 dollars so what is out there? I just want a simple website with good pictures and stuff. I can do all the editing and things myself. I am computer literate I just don't know where to start with the whole website design aspect. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I will start posting pics of all my babies. They are spectacular.

Thankyou,
Phillip Hemingway and Christine Schorr

If I remember correctly-there are many sites for web page templates that you can download for free
You might just have to spend a bit of time searching and sorting through different websites
Good luck and please do post some pics
:D

You can get macromedia dreamweaver for about 200. if you want it free i can burn it and send it to you. its probably the best web design software there is. i have yet to hear or see anything better. i spent 20 weeks in my school at a web design class and can probably help you out with it if you like. in all seriousness let me know if your interested.

Is that not software piracy......... :hot: :uzi:

Unless you learn to do it yourself $200 aint taking you too far.

Yes, it is software piracy... :ack2:

I would have to agree that Dreamweaver is the best for easy website development. The prices tag on DW8 is $399.

Dreamweaver does offer templates, but you need to know how to use the software to successfully edit them...

If you know nothing about coding & design and want something professional, your best bet is to hire someone. If you don't mind the banner advertisements, a free service like Tonya suggested is your best bet, as those are probably the easiest to update & maintain.

If you don't mind reading there's several how to books on Dreamweaver 8. I'm reading them right now and it doesn't seem too hard.

It really isnt, i picked it up in under a week and can now make a good website. just dont have any drive to or reason yet. not till i get hatchlings :p. well if its software piracy, i can always make the website for him, not for 200 of course because no one would believe that someone at the age of 15 would know what theyre doing. the even sadder part? most kids know more about computers than most adults.

Actually for the first couple of years that the net was about, large corporations were hiring children to do the web design. I remember one company had to find a new one because theres got grounded and was not aloud to come to work. It's proven that children can pick up things faster than most adults.

As far as the website goes, draw what you want. Copy it and scan it, email it to me and Ill send you back the html code to do it.

the OP mentioned he has already got a hosting site, but when it comes to free hosting sites I would discourage that. Maybe it's just my own pet peeve, but I never go to websites that are being hosted by the free sites. I'm not just talking reptile related either, no matter what the website is about, I'll go elsewhere. I just don't like dealing with the ads, and other related problems, ie many have very poor templates and even worse navigation. In the "old days" when it cost big bucks to even register your website (domain name), and another large monthly sum to host your site, I could understand the use of free sites, but you can now register your domain for less than the cost of a happy meal, sometimes even free if you purchase a package hosting plan. You can get deals that are less than $5 a month, for me that's worth it even for having a website that is not a "commercial" endeavour. JMHO.

For a designer I would recommend Rob at the hypo gecko. He has the prices that you mentioned. He did my website if you want an example.

I understand 100% were you're coming from. But if he doesn't have the capabilities to do it himself and/or the funds to hire someone, that is the best option for him.

If you have a DSL, cable or broadband of some sort, host it yourself. You probably aren't going to generate enough traffic to set off any alarms anyway. Only thing is get a good firewall. You can even use an old pc if you have one laying around, you don't need a super duper computer to host a web site. That way you can have a database and active content, asp, php jsp or whatever flavour you like. Dreamweaver has a excellent tutorial with using asp and cfm as well. Asp using a database is a snap with Dreamweaver.

If you are going to host it yourself, you may want to look into dotnet nuke. It is skinable, and once you have it looking the way you want, content management is a snap. Oh, btw it is opensource and free to use.

I agree with you. I'm only 16, but I don't judge people based on their age; I judge them based on their actions, intelligence, and honesty. I use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 to build sites and started learning html when I was 11 or 12. I use Paint Shop Pro X for graphics/banners. I'll build you a website for $300 if you're interested. Some of the sites I've built are:
http://www.sunsetgecko.net/ (mine)
http://www.mcleodtech.net/ (my dad's, not yet complete)
http://www.pacificgecko.com/ (another breeder who paid me to build them a site)

Your site would be of a similar quality to mcleodtech.net, because that is the most recent site I've built.

email me here: [email protected] if you're interested.
