    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just disabled the remote topsites links. Let's see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll just try something else.

THAT is a network DNS issue, I do believe.
 
800X600? Jesus...Only people over 80 use that resolution.

rich maybe its comcast.... i have had several people on the east coast tell me how horrible comcast is... i know they used it only for personal use.. but could it be a comcast problem?
and no it is not running any faster i get the "green screen" some times it take for ever or i get errors on the page and it doesnt even load... i also get those blank spaces and red "x"s like chris spoke of
 
Sounds like a DNS error to me also. I have been using Firefox on DSL and have had no problems yet.
Occasionally the service providers are slow on the DNS address updates and it may take up to four days for things to resume normal speed.
Sometimes if you are using a router, it helps to renew your IP addy also.
 
Its not DNS when I can download a completely different browser and hit the site consistently in a fraction of the time (without caching pages).

Using that logic, then it is also nothing on my server end causing the problem, now isn't it? :)

So I should say that my solution to the problem is for everyone to dump Internet Explorer for a new browser?

Actually that might actually be a reasonable solution. You would think with all the money that Microsoft makes that their software would be flawless. But some of the worst junk I have ever seen comes out of that company......

Then they come out with updates and patches that make things worse. Then they come out with a new operating system that makes everything from everyone else break. Then they buy up those other companies or put them out of business by providing a competing product for free with their latest operating system. Which doesn't work as well as the competing product, but hey, it's FREE! Then they CHARGE you if you want to talk to them about the problems their software has caused you, and their single minded solution is to reformat your hard drive and reload the latest version of Windows. Please call back (with credit card in hand) if that doesn't fix YOUR problem.... :>poke2<:
 
hahah..Good thought Rich. Although it may be the browser, it is most likely some bad code that is causing IE to choke. Volleying back to you! :raspberry
 
I do not know much about servers and such; I was going to learn but somehow I can't find the time right now.

However, I DO know that the good things in life are worth waiting for, and Fauna is one of them.....

All of the techie sites have been reporting Comcast having major DNS issues. Here is just one of several sites reporting it.

Fauna works best for me on the netscape browser, not sure if that helps but I have AOL Dial up (I know it sucks but its my birthday gift every year so I don't knock free stuff lol)

On AOL and IE fauna goes weird sometimes but on the netscape browser I have no problems even with my crappie dial up.
 
Well since there appears to be a dramatic seat of the pants feel between using IE and other browsers, I decided to look into some of the settings in IE to see if anything there would make a difference.

One setting that does seem to make a difference is as follows:

  1. Tools
  2. Internet Options
  3. Temporary Internet Files
    1. Settings
    2. Check for newer versions of stored pages
    3. (*) never

Not sure what alternate evil spirits this will invoke, but it does seem to speed up screen displays on my system. Maybe there are other settings that would be useful as well for anyone willing to play around with them.
 
Well after reading this thread, I decided to break out IE 6 and try it again. I am definitely receiving a script error.

Add the http: in front of the line above, I couldn't get it to display properly in this post.

Every time I change to a different thread, the top&id=changes to whatever the thread number is. All other parts of the message remains the same. Looks like the error could be in the adcycle?

If anyone else would like to try this, on WinXP, open your IE browser, click on:
1. Tools
2. Internet Options
3. Advanced
4. Look under browsing;
Check the box in front of :
Display a notification about every script error.
5. Apply
6. OK

I don't remember if it works the same for the older operating systems.
It might help if you post your error messages.
Be sure to turn this back off by unchecking the box, or the errors on each site will drive you crazy! Thank heavens, none of this shows up on Mozilla or Firefox!

now Candy you made me go open up IE, shame on you lol

I did the "Display a notification about every script error"

It took a couple of minutes for the page to come up but had no error messages but I do have all the updates SP2 from Aug 04 and CSU from April this year, so I don't know if that would matter.
 
Yeah alot of the time it will load and say "Page loaded with errors" or something to that effect.

I also noticed that error mentioned above seems to be where the pages hang up on my end, exactly...

It will say that url string in the lower part of internet explorer and it seems to load quickly and then will say "Done" and hang there with the green screen and eventually load the rest of the page after about 15-20 seconds, sometimes more..... And about 1-2 times out of ten it wont load at all, simply ends at that green screen.

Its as if the page has loaded yet part of the script stalls it for a second, kicks out an error, and continues loading the rest of the page.
