    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

OK not personally knowing him, I can't really say what kinda guy he is however, I just recieved a e-mail from him saying he is going to completly change how fauna works.Instead of it being free you are gonna have to pay 10 dollars a year to post here. Myself the only reason that i do post here is because its free.I personally think that this is gonna kill his website in a BIG way as long as there are free places to post like reptibid,Why would people pay to post here? Have you ever heard of the saying " If it aint broke dont fix it" Then to post on the boi you have to be one of the $10 members and you can only post in poll fashion. This whole thing comes down to money! He wants to make more of it and i don't hold this against him. Webslave mark my words this is what you are gonna do to your forum

You'll still be able to read everything and post everywhere but the BOI. I don't see what the problem is. $10 is small change, it won't even buy you a movie ticket, popcorn & a soda.
 
The only way to deal with trolls is to limit your reaction to reminding others not to respond to trolls.
 
I really don’t see what you’re complaining about. Money into fauna will make it a better place honestly; more things to add and to insure it will always be here. Plus if you really boil it down 10 bucks isn’t much for a year.

That’s .83 cents a month
About .03 cents a day if you round it up

It’s not much to complain about, it helps fauna. If webslave was honestly after money he’d probably charge more. 10 bucks isn’t asking much IMO
 
I just paid the ten dollars this morning. And yeah it is worth it to me, very informative site. I paid for two reasons, one, I don't want to see the site go away and two, I want to post.
Anyway that's my useless two cents.... ;)

Oh just curious, when does the icon coin thing show up after paying? No problem,just wondering.
 
Quit whining...Either pay the $10 or don't let the door hit you in the ass. Nobody will shed a tear. You obviously have no idea what it costs to run a website.

Uh, actually it was SUPPOSED to kick in immediately upon receipt of payment. I specifically asked my programmer to implement it this way, and it WAS working for the contributor levels I set up. Guess I had better check on this..... Sorry....

Oh well..... If it comes down to me having to work myself to death here and waste all my time for free, or killing FaunaClassifieds in order to make it worth my time, effort and expense putting up with all the crap I have to every day, then *BANG*, and good riddance. I just love hearing people say that they expect me to work for free to give this site to them, like it is some sort of obligation. This has become REAL work and takes up an inordinant amount of my time. Time, quite frankly, that I have decided I would much rather get something out of, or just go off and spend it on doing things I would rather do. So I am at least giving you all a choice in this matter and not just pulling the plug and saying to hell with it. YOU all are going to tell me whether this is worth it or not to both YOU and ME.
 
I really love this site,thanks Rich.I understand why you are charging $10 for a membership.But to tell you the truth,I just can't pay.My family is having money issues,and well,I don't want to talk about it.I'm going to miss you guys,and all the drama at the BOI,and the great information.

You'll still be able to view the BOI, just not post. You will also be able to participate (view and post) on some of the other discussion forums.
 
Don't get me wrong, I do understand your motives and you have a right to get payed for your work. But what about the little guy, people like myself who do rescue and need every penny to help the reptiles? If you read my posts i never beg for reptiles. I only offer my services to those in need. Maybe you could consider letting rescues and sanctuary's continue to post for free but only in the adoptions forum? Trust me , it does help our work.

I cannot believe some people here talking about how they cannot come up with a measly 10 dollars. YET these same people spend hundreds on reptiles a year..... I lose More than 10$ a year on accident, so i cannot see how putting it to a good cause is all of a sudden a bad thing.

Oh and jim, What about the little guy??? Did you ever stop to think that webslave is a little guy just like us???? I mean he has his sites and business's, but in reality he is just a average man, just like you and me.

You know, i will be sad if fauna did die all because of the people who thought 10$ was killing them..... By looking at the all the new icons i see besides peoples names, im guessing that fauna will not die. To top it off the $10 is only for the boi and select forums, its not every forum on here. If rich did that, then fauna would truely die for sure, but that is not the case.

You know, i wish rich would make everyone who acts like its rich's duty to run the site for free, mod for a day. Make all the other regular mods take the day off too and let all in their hands for the day. I'm sure by the end of the day, they would be glad you came back to take control of the site once again......

You do bring up a good point in a roundabout way. Few people here seem to realize what a selfless act it is for the moderators to help out like they are doing. They aren't being paid to do this, and yet they take time out of their lives to help out here. I try to give them every perk and consideration I can, but it still is not enough to really thank them. And honestly, I think every one of them is a better person then I am, because I REALLY wouldn't do this for them at their sites..... :no01: I KNOW what is involved. But then again, they probably wouldn't want MY job here either.....

Perhaps someone has gotten the mistaken impression that I am independently wealthy. Sorry, but nothing could be further from the truth. I WORK and work HARD, for every penny I get out of life. I took the first vacation in 15 years just this past November (and as luck would have it, injured a nerve in my shoulder and was in pain the entire time).... So yeah, I'm just a little guy too, who wants to make my efforts worthwhile. Nobody here will die if they don't pay the membership fee and do without those functions that this payment will grant them. I am not withholding anything life threatening from anyone. This is all optional and done in such a way that I felt it would be as painless as humanly possible, yet accomplish the goals I felt needed attaining at this juncture. Was the timing right? Beats me. But then again, when would it ever really be right as far as EVERYONE would be concerned?
 
OK, It seems like the point of my last post was completely missed. So i will be very direct. Will you allow rescues and sanctuarys to post the animals that we have in our care, up for adoption, on 1 part of your new forum, for free?
I don't want to sell rescues for profit or make 1 thin dime from your site. All im asking is that i be allowed to find homes for them here. nothing more nothing less. It's not for me it's for the reptiles.
 
Jim; there are so many opportunities here at Fauna with membership; as a reptile rescue it would be extremely worthwhile to take that step.

I can't do this for everyone; but in return for your apology for the title of this thread, which is misleading and untrue, (I believe a better faunaclassified is being built and forged through Rich's effort and teamwork) please allow me to purchase a basic membership in your behalf.
