In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well hello hello.

I'm not sure why I never made it here earlier. (Here being these forums.) But now that I'm here I suppose I'll introduce myself.

My 'webname' is Mettle, as you can see, a moniker I generally use across forums. So you may have seen me elsewhere on other sites prior to this. I'm no stranger to herps. I used to catch snakes and frogs and such as a kid living on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. Now I'm in Ottawa and have a few friends to keep me company.

My favourite - even though I guess you're not supposed to pick favourites - is my bearded dragon, Tequila. He was a rescue from a few years back. As a baby he was sold too early and to the wrong people. He became severely impacted due to a combination of the wrong size of food, being fed/kept on sand and absurdly improper (low) temps. We were able to save him. But as a result he developed a strong distaste for food (food = pain I guess) and it took me over two years to get him eating properly. As a result, he's runtier than he should be. But he's still my little buddy.

I have three snakes. The first is an irian jaya carpet python that I named Irwin, after the legend Steve Irwin. A gorgeous snake with an exceptionally good temperment, he's only hissed at me all of once, and never struck. My pink pastel red tail boa, Aires (aka Mr. Slithers), is my favourite snake that I have. Great temperment and a type of snake I always wanted. My third is a reverse okeetee corn snake named Junior. There's a long story behind this snake - and lots of drama with escapes and vet visits - but in the end he's a momento from the first cornsnake I owned but had to sell when I relocated to Germany for a year.

I have two turtles. Dumb as can be, haha. I can't believe these animals. And I recently acquired a pair of baby crested geckos who positively hate me, lol. Hopefully with time they will lighten up.

Aside from herps I also have a dog - another rescue - who is (I believe) a Shih Tzu/Lhaso Apso cross. But she might have a hint of terrier in her, too. I have no idea. All I know is that gives so much love and is a fantastic animal. I also have a single fish tank on the go, a 72 gal bowfront, that houses my flowerhorn.

Other tidbits... I'm a student at Carleton University working on my Masters in Legal Studies. When not at school or taking care of my animals I keep busy with the internet (Facebook is a plague lol), movies, tv, photography, creative writing. I also love to travel which sometimes conflicts with the animals but I have a few excellent friends who are knowledgeable and family members that I have learned to come to rely on when I disappear for a week or two here or there.

That was really long winded, so I should probably call it quits, haha.
