In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Wendy Childs, Reptile Addictions

I actually would support an admission fee for animal specialty shops that go the extra mile with presentation and comfortable living conditions for the animals being sold and on display. It can be seen something like a zoo, and perhaps people can become educated that way. Of course, can't speak on the behalf of a store I've never been in, but I like the fantasy idea of better 'pet shops'.

Taking your idea a step further.....I think that's a GREAT idea if it was an idea taken a step farther and was...a pet shop that showed the individual animals in inhabitants that were "correct" for them; that would go a long way towards educating the public. More so than just a show of animals in environments that were just for display.

Great idea on the educational front IMO.

Most pet stores sell normal balls that aren't healthy for 70 dollars anyones, you can find one on her for 25 dollars + like 30-40 shipping that is healthy.

This should have been an info. thread at best. The OP isn't happy about the way Wendy runs her business in this thread, but in a different thread praises Wendys store on the same day.

Then we have Wendys ex-BF with 7 posts, all are on other Wendy threads ,chime in.If you don't like the way someone runs their store, don't deal with them.

:( I've been speckle-dorfed! I didn't know he was her ex.
Sorry. I'm an idiot. I didn't think the whole thing about Wendy's ideas through. I totally jumped the gun 'cause I'm broke.

On one hand, I can see why a specialized pet store might want to charge an "admission fee" when so many people just want to come & browse & see cool animals with no intention of buying anything - I see it (the browsers, the "ooohers and aaahers", the non-herp people) regularly at a specialized reptile/bird store my friends own that I have visited/hung out at for the past 10-13 years.

On the other hand, any decent, responsible pet store should already be housing/displaying their animal stock in comfortable, appropriate environments - responsible husbandry should not be a prerequisite to charging "admission".

A retail store is not a non-profit zoo or non-profit botanical endeavor. No other retail business (that I can think of) charges an admission, why then would a pet store?

And yes, IMO this should have been an info thread. If you are broke, then perhaps another mouth to feed isn't all that wise at the moment, anyway (I know the feeling!).

No, you aren't an idiot :)

Not to defend her, as I think it is a bad idea, but Apple stores began charging $5 admission back in 2007 during the release of the iphone. It wasn't all Apple stores and I'm not sure if they still charge to enter. :)

And not to hijack this thread (too much) with an admission fee debate, but I am horrified at the way some parents allow their children to behave in stores. The particular problem in pet stores is that when the little monsters bang on cages, run around and shriek, etc. it can lead to a store full of terrified critters.
Could the store staff intervene? They could and should, but far easier is a $5 fee so that the more irresponsible parents would leave the children at home rather than pay admission.

wow way to slam someone caz you don't like them should be deleted. If you have alegit problem , post it otherwise , thinking b4 you hit submit would be great.

To my knowledge nobody asked if they where.
The above quote was made in response to the following post

To my knowledge none of the other local shops are affiliated with wendy childs.
which, of course, was made in response to THIS post (passage bolded by my, for emphasis)
I've heard of the new store in Northtown, Rasmussen's Reptiles--is Wendy affiliated with them? I wonder if they're..."up to par" with her shop.

It is my understanding that she is selling the store (see the Miscellaneous section under the Classifieds) and that the store is going out of business. That might explain the need for cash.

Wasn't she moving into a much larger location last year?

Charging a fee to enter a pet shop would never fly here in OKC....although I do understand the concept. However, it would probably be the last thing I would come up with if business was slipping.

I haven't checked her profile since I sent that PM; but, as of that day, she hadn't logged onto this site in nearly a month.

Actually I am surprised that this thread is allowed to remain in the BOI and not transferred to the General Business Forum. She can do what she wants with her store IMO. If someone doesn't want to pay $5 to enter her store than they just don't enter. They don't purchase from her and they move on. Why is this here?

Kevin makes a good point. Had there been a female ball python in the store this post would most likely not be here. We can't be upset at someone simply because they don't have what we are looking for. Because it really boils down to that, the $5 are a non-issue as the potential client paid for it willingly.

I dont have time to read all these replies. I will tommorrow. It is late.

The "store" is changing to an "education center" and is being designed as such. It is being treated like a zoo, so we are changing it to a zoo. Example. Door count Sunday was 342 people. Out of those there was 22 transactions. Spokane has never had a place quiet like this and we are trying to adapt to it. I can not afford to pay people to look after children touching things, breaking things, running, screaming, putting finger prints all over, answering 5000 questions on a simple 22 sales.

If they want a zoo, they got it. They have to pay for it like any other place.

For our regular purchasing customers, they dont mind, they are buying anyways and their $5 goes to their purchase. They can actually get an employee to help them who is freed up of the masses.

The admission fee is APPLIED to any purchase. Had you asked at the door if we had what you were looking for someone would have gladly answered you before you paid admission.

We currently have 56 ball python morphs in stock (crummy selection?)13 of those being female. To say we have NO females is not true. It seems we didnt have THE female you were looking for.

There are over 100 phone calls a day. In order to keep costs down my employees spend their hours cleaning and feeding, and helping customers on hand.If you would like me to hire a secretary, the "cheapest place in town" will be no more. There is a very informative 5 minute message that should tell you almost everything you need to know.

There is no possible way to maintain and keep a website updated for the 869 animals in store all day. Thats not even realistic. We dont sell them on line and dont offer the in store animals on line.,
