    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Wendy Childs, Reptile Addictions

I see a comment I did not reply to. There is no "speech" that is given at the door. I dont pay someone to stand there. Hence the cheap prices.

Currently our store policies are posted on the door on paper. The window stickers should be complete by friday.

The explanation is there for all to see. They can come in and ask more questions. Some do, some dont.

ADMISSION EXPLANATION:

90% Of the community is using this place as a Zoo. Which is fine, but it will have to be funded like a Zoo to maintain the upkeep of traffic flow.

The admission charge we are now requiring of every person and child is LOWER than the Reptile Zoo in Auburn ($11 & $6) , and LOWER than CatTales in Mead ($6), and LOWER than Mobius Downtown ($5.75). It helps us with the upkeep of this facility and keeps it here for your viewing pleasure and educational needs.

There are over 600 different species of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, unlike ANY Pet Store you have ever been to. We have the only USDA license for small exotic mammals. There are mammals here you will not see anywhere in the Northwest.

Unlike ANY other Pet Store, Each habitat has an "ID tag" with picture that tells you, what it is - common and scientific, where it's from, how long it lives, how big it gets, what type of environment it is from, what it eats, and what care it needs.

Each habitat is elaborately decorated to be as close to it's natural environment as possible.

These animals are NOT displayed like your typical Pet Store. They are cleaned daily, feed daily, provided fresh water daily, and handled daily.

The difference between us and the other places charging an admission fee is that the animals are for sale and their habitats are for sale too!

The cost and man hours of upkeep to maintain this atmosphere is UNLIKE a Pet Store. I alone can NOT absorb the cost to maintain it just for your viewing pleasure and educational needs.

What I have provided for this community is unlike anything anyone else has ever attempted. Please, help me keep it here for everyone to enjoy.

RULES - POLICIES

FEEDERS- CASH ONLY FROM NOW ON! We are ONLY selling feeders from 10 am - 12 noon and 4pm to 6 pm. AT THE BACK DOOR. No feeders will be sold on the showroom floor, and No feeders will be sold outside those hours. The back door will be open at those times and those times ONLY! NO EXCEPTIONS.

NO MINORS ALL children must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult and under supervision at all times.

Right To Refuse Service If you are rude to our staff, yelling, screaming, banging and tapping on glass, running, opening cages, etc. You will be asked to leave and you will be asked never to return.
Credit/ Debit Cards No credit or debit cards will be accepted for purchases under $500. No feeders can be combined in that purchase. Feeders are cash only.
Tours/ Groups We will provide guided descriptive tours on MONDAYS only, by prepay appointments. Flyers with info available on request. Show and pet for 5 animals of your choosing is included in the tour.One adult per 5 children must accompany during tour.The max capacity for tour is 30 people. The cost is $150 cash for 45 minutes.
Parties/ School Shows - We will come to you on MONDAYS only, by prepay appointments. Flyers with info available on request. Show and pet for 6 animals of your choosing is included for your party. The cost is $250 cash plus mileage to be determined. 45 minutes.

YOU BREAK IT YOU BUY IT Any damaged items must be paid for by the person, or responsible adult present.

NO REFUNDS NO EXCHANGES
All items including Animals are sold as is. All Zoo Med products are under manufacture warranty. We guarantee all animals are void of genetic defects and illness. We can not be responsible for how animals are cared for after they leave here. Any reasonable issues will be dealt with accordingly on a case by case basis. Please dont hesitate to ask."

Way to provide customer NO service. :thumbsup: ... but hey, its your business... do with it as you please.
 
? what do you mean? Customers needing feeders have my full undivided attention now, I rearranged the whole place to make all the feeders in one place accessible to the back only, the drive through feeder hours are outside the store hours, morning and night so it is convenient. Thats all I do during those hours is quick feeders :0)

People are given feeders who havnt been in yet to know the new back door drive through hours. And they are sold feeders with any purchase during show room hours.

People LOVE the new feeder drive through. They were tired of waiting to just get a dozen crickets because everyone was busy with people.

People show up that know the new hours and wine that they have an emergency, they need a mouse Bad, their snake hasnt ate in a month, blah blah blah. If we make exceptions people take advantage of it because they are not managing their pet care wisely. All things are considered on a case by case basis :)
 
And maybe I can only show up when its not within those set hours. We do have a life.... and at times its hard to just drop everything. Its no secret that I work evenings.... its what I prefer. Your late hours I couldnt make it to... and your early hours I'd be sleeping. So the only time I have to get things done is the middle of the day.

That is yet one more reason I wont ship anything with my local UPS hub... they keep the same hours you do for customer service.

Like I said.... its your business.... but your loosing business because you refused to do feeders at any other time. Just something to consider.
 
:eek: JHB that is not nice at all. I already said I don't like Rasmussen's at all, and they don't sex their snakes at all. So, I can't even find out if they have any females. They don't take the time to do it. I asked the guy who owns the business if he had any females and he said, "Oh, I don't sex them anymore. I'm sure I've got a female back there though if you wanna buy a couple."

I actually do great business. My rating on here has nothing to do with sales :D. Probably some people are exhausted that I'm beating a dead horse. I'm just overzealous that she is on her way out the door. Check out my EBAY rating that I posted on here earlier if you want to see a customer service rating on me.

On the contrary, it is an interesting and thought provoking thread. The admission fee idea has been looked at from different angles and has actually garnered some support.

As well, there is a tapestry of past actions blending in with present and future actions on the part of Wendy, and many have opinions.

While one may not always either completely agree or disagree with a thread where many hold strong opinions, taking the time to think about the various issues involved is not worthless IMHO.
 
lucille it is worthless to bash someone and put it on the BOI for no reason......some folks looking to do business with her can see this at first glance , may not look inside to see that there has been no harm done by Wendy. ....all they see is the RED X meaning bad guy. so not cool and not of worth

Wendy is unique and I doubt that her threads go unread. And I think when the OP wrote the thread she had not considered all the aspects.

BTW the drive through feeder idea is genius. I'd bet that is they did something similar with pet food in general, whoevr did it would become very well off indeed. I'd go out of my way to get 50 lbs of dog food put in the trunk of my car without having to get out and go inside and pay.
 
Thinking about it.

Feeders are and have always been a CUSTOMER SERVICE. We produce all our own feeders. 14 species of bugs and 5 species or rodents- live and frozen.

We are "The cheapest feeders in town" because we sell them at cost of production. No one has the selection I do, the prices I do, the guaranteed in stock or its free, or the buy 12 get 1 free punch cards.

I supply the entire Spokane community with feeders, that I am certain of. This place does over $500 a day in feeders alone.That is why it was necessary to revamp how we run that rat race all day.
 
Still dont think I agree with charging..Its almost like asking someone to be nice when doing business with them..Its expected,just like taking pride to keep a place nice..I wouldnt keep a place nice just so I could charge people,I would do it so animals can have a great atmosphere along with the customers..
 
Your missing my point Wendy. If I was in WA....Id have to look elsewhere for feeders becuase you say no exception on the hours..... and I would FIND elsewhere before I messed up what little sleep I do get.
 
i cannot go into the main store so i can't comment much about that, and wendy is a very busy person, just have to have patience, i have done all of my business with her thru emails and phone calls/texting.... and even though it takes a while to get ahold of her usually , if it's important she's pretty quick in getting back with me.. I have gotten nothing but healthy awesome animals from her at very decent prices... can't praise her more...although i would like to get some more of that crestie food of yours hehe, they did like it and i ran out soo quick ;)

Rich Z. laid out a logical basis very well. Wendy posted hard numbers that present a genuine problem when trying to operate such a unique store. With those templates, you then criticize without addressing the real problem of the business owner, supported by the insight and experience of Rich and others here.

How about a little salesmanship and customer service then? I would say Reptile Addictions and many other pet stores are guilty of not having those traits. You can't sit there like a knot on a log and complain that everyone is window shopping. Engage your customers and I bet you close a few more sales.

If you are getting a lot of traffic into your store I'm failing to see a problem. If you want qualified buyers all day everyday then close up your doors, only sell online and at bigger trade shows and have very strict will call hours. Charging a cover charge to get into a retail store is shooting yourself in the foot.............especially in Spokane. There is a reason Spokane is a test market and that reason being is that it is very tough on retail. Charging a cover is only going to make it harder on yourself.

That was the original business model, and it ended up not working in this case, as experienced folks here have no problem understanding.

It's just a business strategy. Some see it as charging admission, but in reality she's selling a redeemable coupon worth $5.
