    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So I'm pretty new to the herp world, and it's been incredible reading about the array of these "alternative" animals that people keep. Seems as though almost no-one owns just one snake, but a variety of critters.

So I'm interested in knowing, what variety of animals do you keep and why?
 
Myself, I just bought myself a baby BP a few weeks back. Wish I had the chance to buy my first snake years ago..been enthralled by them for as far back as I can remember. Just something so captivating about them.

I can easily see where the addiction gets you..already planning my next snake. Looking at BPs again, and Irian Jaya Carpets.

Non-snake, I think I'd like to get involved in gecko's at some stage..think viper geckos, gargoyle gecko's and crested's are just too cute!

Anyway, thought it was fascinating how once you get involved in this, how it opens up your interest in other herps. Never once considered gex, but now the seem like a likely future purchase! :D
 
Well, I have 2 bearded dragons and 1 leopard gecko. What started it all for me was when I was in elementary, we had a guest bring in a bunch of exotic animals. That was the first time I had ever touched a reptile and that was what got me hooked. I wasn't able to get a herp until after I graduated high school, though. I love the bearded dragons because they are so calm and mellow and will just chill with you while you watch tv. I like the leopard geckos because they come in some many different colors and I think they're just neat animals to have. I plan on getting either a ball python or a corn snake when I move out on my own...my parents both hate snakes.
 
Currently, I only have snakes (14 different species) and a handful of frogs. When I used to have alot of stuff (its all relative, lol), I also kept turtles, arachnids, monitors (and a few other lizards), and crocodilians.
 
Uhh... Two California Kingsnakes, one Kenyan Sand Boa, one Rosy Boa, two California Newts, two Arboreal Salamanders, one Painted Ensatina, and two Emperor Scorpions.

And 50+ fish.
 
I've had everything on your list at one point or another. The only catagory of herps I have never kept are crocodillians.
Currently I have mainly snakes, 60 or so, venomous and non-venomous. I have managed to get it down to 11 species now.
I also have a group of monitors, a tarantula, and a tortoise.

I enjoy working with various lizards, but time constraints caused me to get out of most of them. Having a bunch of insectivores that require daily care starts to wear on you after a few years.
I do want to get back into day geckos at some point. Grandis were one of the first species I ever reproduced years ago and they remain my favorite gecko species.

2.2 Corn Snakes (Lavender and Amelanistic)

I have been especially intrigued by snakes since I was little. As a boy my Mom would only let me keep them outside in So. CA, so I had Gopher snakes and King Snakes along with an assortment of lizards. When I moved out I had Burmese Pythons until I had kids (too big to have around little humans in my opinion). Now I am involved in the breeding aspect. I love to watch the eggs hatch and the neonates come out. They;re SO cute.

I love reptiles, I cant see how anybody could love anything else!

Thought I somehow posted on someone else's account :rofl: That's pretty much about my "bio" also. Some differences, like I've never reproduced day geckos, but I've always loved them, and I don't currently have any monitors, or Torts.
Non herp related, at one time I had a SW fish tank, 2 reef tanks (one 75g and one mini reef), and a FW tank, but it was to much work. I do miss them, so I've been planning on getting back into it, modestly, this time, one smallish reef tank.

We talked for a few years about getting into fish, but I was reluctant to start fresh in a completely new area. It was a lot of time and work to get to a decent level of knowledge about reptiles, and since that had pretty much consumed over a decade I wasn't too sure about embarking on a brand new quest for knowledge.
My wife finally convinced me to set up a tank though a couple of years ago. We started with a 75g freshwater, and last year set up a 75g salt tank. She wants a small reef type tank for the bedroom and that's going to be it.
I do enjoy the fish, but I'm not going to pursue them on the same level I have reptiles, I want to simply enjoy them on a relatively small scale.

I'm breeding the thayeri's this year, this will be my first try at breeding, I'm pumped to see how it turns out. I'm putting the male with the female this week :D :D :D

had fish but decided had to cut back somewhere and i just didn't have the heart to lose the kid(LOL). actually she's my little helper by holding all the empty bowls and passing them to me when i ask for them and loves to watch when i feed everyone. her favorites are the leos and the hermit crabs because i have them set at her eye level and she can stare at them all day long. the bp is set up in her room and she's only interested when it's feeding time.
 
If Clay and John will itemize, so will I...until then, no list from me, lol
 
Well, I have far too many I want to list as it is. I do like sticking with the snakes, but some lizards are fun also, therefore I do have a few of them too. I do not dabble into venomous, I am too easy of a target. I tried saltwater fish before, but until I am in a bigger house and a different work schedule, I am not going to bother with them again.
 
I started with a bunch of toads when I was 4 or 5, then progressed to anoles and garter snakes. I have had random amphibs over the years. Right now, I have my iguana whom I've had since I was 10, 5 leopard geckos + eggs, my fat cat and my daughter's fish.

What I would really like to get are frilled dragons and basilisks.
