In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What do you look for in a pastel?

When you're choosing a pastel keeper, are there any particular aspects you look at that can help you identify those that will be nicest as adults? Or do you just go for general over-all brightness?

Any pointers would be appreciated :)

Well, keep what you find is appealing!

You always have to remember that the animal as a baby looks much better than it will as an adult (most of the time).

Pick the aspects of the animal you find attractive and that will work well with your projects. (Brightness, pattern, feeding, attitude)

That is usually what I do with any animal.

I look for a hatchling with as little orange on it's sides as possible.
The orange tends to turn brown as they age.

Look at the parents to see what the baby may grow into as an adult. I look for a really faded head, bright gold eyes, bright yellow coloration, and as much back blushing as possible.

That question could be answered in so many ways due to the many differen't lines of pastels...

Some of the more common...

Graziani's (Greg and Jackies Line) - Graziani's tend to have extreme blushing and typically are a good amount of blushing/fading along their backs..

Lemon's (Nerd's Line) - Is known for they're high contrast in pattern color. You'll know a good lemon when you see it because those yellow markings just pops from the dark black on the rest of the body...

Blonde Pastel's (Amir has a nice Line) - Usually holds alot of color and has really little to no orange at all and the adults look pretty incredible.. They don't tend to brown out like some other lines of pastels hence the blonde "title"...

VPI (Dave and Tracy Barkers Line)- has a great line as well... In my opinion looks much like the graziani... maybe a little less blushing on the back? I haven't really seen a whole lot of VPI pastels myself...

Those are just a few differences between a few of the lines but all lines have poor to high quality examples so shop around for the one that you like and you can't go wrong..

Good point... I've also seen some great lookin pastel babies come out of not so great lookin parents and vice versa... My advice would be to shop around for that one animal that you just can't resist..

Best of luck to ya in your future purchase and keep us updated!
