In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What do you use to gutload your mealworms with?

Normally, I just get a mixture of oatbran, wheat bran, oat meal, and wheat germ, add some T-rex cricket diet, and feed apples and carrots. The worms definately seem to like it and they get big. I go through generations like nuts too (about a month from new eggs to beetles). I originally started with regular sized mealworms, but the mealworms got huge, bigger than giant mealworms. HOWEVER, they all died out over the winter, I think some mold got to them, so have to start a new colony with the puny ones.

I'd also would like to put a little more weight on my gecko, so kinda looking to try something new. I was looking for gut loading recipies, but they seem to call for some pretty exotic stuff (spirulina? bee pollen?). Are there any recipes that use easy to get ingredients? I hear the Pro Gecko's gut load is pretty good, anyone have any experience with it?

exotic? you can find all those things at natural food stores.
I use rolled oats, wheat bran with spirulina, brewer's yeast, bee pollen, and dried sea kelp.

It takes me a lot longer than a month to go through that entire process.

Haha, I guess my problem is I don't have a car, and I have to go out of my way to get to the nearest "natural food store". How warm do you keep your worms? I guess I keep mine on the warmer side (~80-85 deg F) which might explain why they grow so fast.

They definitely grow faster at warmer temps. I keep mine at room temperature (74), and only heat them during the winter (it gets pretty cold around here).

I've been using Cody's Pro Gutload for nearly a year now. I absolutely love it! The worms eat it up, and the geckos look great. MUCH easier than making your own. I noticed a big difference in only a few weeks when I made the switch.

I had been making my own gut load but just started using Pro Gutload due to time I have none lol I love working overtime but I miss my free time

I only use mixed grains and cereals, with bee pollen, all grinded to powder form as bedding; if I could find spirulina and dried sea kelp, I would add those too.

The process from new eggs to beetles seems to take as long as 3 months, I keep them in a room at 75-80F.

Cody's gutload is excellent and so is his customer service!!

I use Cody's gutload too, it is actually cheaper than when I made my own, I think it winds up at $3 something a pound if you buy 10 lbs and my leos looked better and gained weght during breeding faster once I started using it.

So whee do you get this Cody's gutload? I just give my meal worms whatever veggie we have on hand, and keep them in a container of wheat bran. Theyu seem to do ok and I am on my second set of beetles at room temp......Geckos seem to eat them up, in fact going through too many so have to find a more efficient way of raising them...I mean quicker way.
