In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I've been in the hobby for two years and we've had RIs, parasites, mites, injuries, and LOTS of trouble with a certain ball who has fasted, didn't want to convert to f/t, and now doesn't want to convert to rats. :shrug01:

Years ago when I went from the pet stage to the collector stage I should've done more research on QUARANTINE...that's were the mites came in! Thankfully, I only had a small group at the time--but even so, getting rid of them is a huge pain...
RI's are much easier to deal with, unless the reptile doesn't recover, but a pain as well.
Thank goodness I have been blessed otherwise!

I filled in pretty much everything, including the IBD. Although I should say that some of those were problems I dealt with in a less than direct manner. Friends who had animals where they wanted my opinion or for me to work with it when a problem occurred, shipments coming in from suppliers with issues back when I was actually selling things and the oddball animal that would just get dumped on me as unwanted by the original owner.

Other in this case was a few instances of chemical poisoning.

I checked almost all since I first got involved with this hobby doing rescues. I'm glad I don't take in rescues anymore but huge KUDOS to those that do. :)

I checked all but IBD and Nothing. It should be noted that over the course of almost 20 years, and many, many purchases (including buying for a pet shop), one can get a lot of crap...and standards/expectations weren't always as high as they are now.

Are you meaning me or my animals?

Let's see.... I've had a few of these, but mercifully few.

Internal parasites: Just flagellates. Easy to treat!
Problem Feeders: Just my one ball python who has refused f/t for three years...but I might finally be convincing her!
Injuries: One from a frightened rat and one from a snake accidentally grabbing herself instead of the rodent.
Weight Loss & Other: Almost entirely from leopard geckos. Lost one to lipidosis, one to an eye infection (and subsequent infection), and two to an insufficient quarantine period (new baby transmitted cryptosporidium to a healthy gecko--both passed away).

Other than the leopard gecko fiasco, I've been blessed with very healthy herps. <3

wow ok first python imported ball ticks and a poor feeder.

when i did venomous most of them were wild caught ( was friends with and worked for an importer so it was easy) and got almost everything you could imagine ri's parasites etc

Before I started getting super picky about who I was buying from & settled down to what I actually wanted to work with, I've dealt with most of the list. The only thing I haven't had to deal with so far ( knock on wood ) is the IBD.

Back in the day, most of my critters came from local pet shops. Talk about learning experiences. Its amazing how long I've been mite free since I stopped going to the local shops. One was so bad, you'd bring home mites standing at the front counter and never setting foot in the reptile room 50 feet away.
