In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What herps have bitten you?

i havn't been biten yet so i probly jynxed myself now

unless a baby sister biting me like 8yrs ago counts =p

I haven't had a bite that has drawn blood, but my now 2 year old Kenyan Sand Boas often mistook my fingers for tasty pinkies when they were neonates. I wouldn't even know they were on there, until i would pull my hand out, and one would be wrapped around my finger, hanging on for dear life:rofl:

I have quite a long list since I worked in a reptile shop so here goes...

-American Alligator (3 ft...luckily the 6ft one behaved)
-Ornate Plated Lizard (Bastard took a chunk of the webbing between my fingers out)

-Veiled Chameleon
-Tokay Gecko
-Anoles (who hasn't)
-Sudan Plated Lizard
-Black Throat Monitor
-Rhinoceros Iguana
-Bearded Dragons
-Frilled Dragons
-California King Snake
-Corn Snake

There's tons more but this is all I can remember at the time.

Diamondback Watersnake
Sonoran Gopher Snakes
Bull Snake
Bluff strike from a Malagasy Hoggie (closed mouth strike)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I would easily say the worst bites I've experienced were from rats and cats. I would take snake bites over rat bites any day. I wouldn't say I'm prone to getting bit, I've just been involved with animals on a daily basis for a very long time, so it's bound to happen at some point :yesnod:

I've been bitten by every species I've ever owned... but the worse bite was from a grumpy adult imported Buton Retic....... He bit me on the Arm. in the antecubital area

SiteSelection.jpg

The top jaws sunk into the top... and lower jaws hit my elbow.... he wrapped me up and continued to squeeze very hard..... it took me about 10 minutes to get him off....... I tried using alcohol(which burned me like hell.) waterhose...

everytime we tried uncoiling him he would walk his teeth up and down my arm slicing me up even more....... his top teeth severed the Medial Cubital and Caphalic veins and there was blood everywhere.....

We finally pryed his mouth off using a butterknife and wooden dowel(we opened his mouth and placed a wooden dowel in... he bit on it and I got my arm free.....

I has to apply a tourniquet and get rushed to the ER.... where they eventually had to call a surgeon in to perform microsurgery to reconnect the damage to the bloodvessels...... I had 36 superficial stitches and countless internal ones..... I have some pics that were taken at the ER I will try to find......

I had to take 2 courses of IV Cipro because I started running a fever that night.... and they were concerned I would go into septic shock..... they had my friend go to my house to collect a swab from the inside of the snakes mouth so they could run a sensitivity on it...... The reports showed several possible pathogens in the mouth flora..... Retics have this group of teeth in the top of their mouths.... middle row front that are very long and super sharp.....these did the worst damage....... and the other teeth just sliced up my arm........

Anyway...... I was probably a little complacent at the time... and let my guard down....... you forget sometimes how dangerous these snakes can be..... especially retics...... It wasnt long after that when I realized that retics probably arent the best animals to keep as pets and I stopped working with them all together.... If he wouldve tagged me in the neck, it couldve killed me.......

I love my boas..... even the biggest one probably wont send me to the ER...LOL

Off the top of my head...

California and mexican black king snakes, mostly juveniles but I've been tagged many times by my evil 6ft Cali. I've only had him a couple weeks and he is by far the meanest animal I've ever owned.

Countless corn snakes, all juveniles. It's so cute when they bite!

Redhood23's rosy boa bit me. He grabs it out and says, "wanna hold a snake that WILL bite you?" and puts it in my hands. Yup, he was right, it did bite me. It didn't even make it into my hands before it latched on.

Countless garters of all shapes, sizes and varieties.

A couple bull snakes back in the day when I lived in Wyoming as a kid. I've had my pet pair of bulls take a snap at me a few times, but they haven't quite gotten me yet.

Sinaloan and Nelson's milk snakes

Prairie rattlesnake. Dry bite while riding my motorcycle when I was about 15.

Mediterranean geckos. We had these little guys all over our apartment in Texas.

Leopard geckos

Panther geckos

Crested geckos

Veiled chameleons

Chinese water dragon

Long tailed lizards, green anoles, bahaman anoles and similar species.

Horned lizards (horny toads)

Probably more but I don't remember at the moment.
