In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What is the best and safest way to thaw frozen mice?

Some one should invent a 'rodent defroster' that warms them up to a nice 100F, and keeps them there.

My ball pythons do not often care to take room temperature rodents--they're only interested if their heat pits can pick them up well.

It exists & is easy to make, I'm just to busy procrastinating on the other things I have to build.

If anybody wants the plans pm me & I'll dig them up. It may take me a few days though.

I'm interested--I would thaw them in the fridge overnight, then pop them into a warmer to get up to 'interesting' temperature for the snakes. It would make things a lot easier. At the moment, they wind up in a bathtub full of hot water, which is incovenient, and they tend to get soggy. Soggy rats are more of an issue for me than the snakes, but some of the snakes seem to prefer them dry. lol

I want those plans, Belle. I love building things.

I put my feeders into the fridge to thaw overnight, then put the bags into buckets of hot water to warm for a few minutes before feeding. I've tried all the others ways I can think of, this one seems to work for me for now. The rats don't get a chance to get too gamey, but they're warm enough to not cause the snake any digestive issues.

Worst splody rodent I ever got was when I experimented with "Rat-in-a-microwave". :ack2:
Not recommended.....

My friend tried thawing a mouse this way... Well, it was also pregnant and the inside of the microwave was covered in guts and fetuses. Definitely not recommended!

I personally thaw in hot water, or in a bag in hot water.

I put mine in a ziplock bag and put in a pot of water on the stove on low. I can keep my hand in the water without any pain. Takes about 10 minutes for 4 rat pups to thaw.

I try to keep from adding too much heat to them as this causes decay that much faster (especially the internal organs). I put mine in plastic containers and run cold water over them for a little while. I can do other things and not worry about the rodents getting too hot. If you want to keep them dry, you could do the same thing in a ziploc bag.

Ziplock bags always wind up leaking, lol.
If you thaw them quickly enough, they don't really have a chance to spoil before you feed them off.
