    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i have adult ball pythons in a rack in sterilite 1860 boxes. they are the ones that are 35 long. my question is, is it necessary to have hides in the boxes, the rack itself is dark and secure and most of the time they are not in the hides but behind them. with the appropriate size hide and water bowl it doesnt leave much room for exercise. any input would be great, thanks in advance.

You may or may not need them. It all depends upon the snake. Some like to cram into a little hide even in the tub.
I have 5 that unless they have a hide inside the tub, they won't eat and act nervous when I open it. Others show no interest in hides at all.
Watch the way your snakes act and determine if you need a hide from what they tell you.

I think most will relate a similar experience as Steve. Some balls are just too insecure without a hide, and for others a hide box is just in the way.
As a general rule of thumb with the balls, I only provide a hide box in a rack if the snake displays a need for one. Otherwise I don't use them.
I do this for convenience, not having hides to sanitize, and also for breeding purposes. If two breeders are accustomed to not having a hide, and are comfortable with that, then it's much easier to observe them during the breeding season, and gets rid for the potential for the female to retire to the hide box, coiled up and basically out of reach of the male.

thanks for the info. i have some that i know wont miss them at all and others im not sure. i will make my decision on each one individually.
