In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What is your best excuse(s) for getting a new reptile? Here are a few of my favorites:

"We have an empty tank and I can't bare the sight of it, it looks so lonely."

"We have the extra space."

"The rodent rack is working to well and we have too many rodents. So we need more snakes to get rid of the rodents faster."

"It is good for the economy to buy another one."

Begging seems to work also...

It's not exactly an excuse, but my usual technique is: "I'm thinking about getting a XXXXXX"

Excuses

I must admit I have used the empty cage one myself.
My best and most effective..................Honey, I NEED a new snake.
Or West, wants one.
By the way Michael, he went to sleep tonight telling me we have to get him a "Dopey".
There goes "My" ground Boas. I was working on acquiring a 1.2 group by years end for my collection.
No loss though, they will simply be "our" group.
Anyone else have a 3 1/2 year old partner.
Have to admit I am pleased he is so interested, and very proud he is learning to properly care for them.
Now I just need to set up the "Westley's Herp Fund" and plunk about 1/2 my check into it every two weeks. Maybe, that will cover his appetite for herps.

Sorry Ginger, I know how the Dopey snakes can be, they just need to be owned.

With, West. they will truly be "Owned" & Loved. Not such a bad deal.
The West's of the world are our future Herp addicts. Only he is addicted already. LOL

Good one Ginger!! I guess a need to have a kid that loves snakes. Then I can say "but sweetie he picked it out!!!!" I love it!!! How do you argue with that?? Hey wait, how about I just "borrow" West for the next big herp show!!

:p I don't make excuses.....I just get "THE LOOK" when the FedEx or UPS truck drives in the yard. :p

I feel you, sister! :) Although, I don't even get "the look" until he's going through the cages and notices one or two that don't belong! :)

Dont need an excuse. Just secretly look up what you want, make your spouse/gf isnt home when you get it, and just set it up. If they ask, just say "Ive had that for almost 2 months now", seems to work.

I don't really use excuses. But my favorite method is to start building a cage, talk about how cute something is for like 2 months, then all of a sudden it comes delivered to your door, and there's no way my fiance can complain. That also worked on my parents back in the day.

I know I bought a ball python a while ago, I know he's in the cage somewhere, I know I throw mice in there and they disappear..but to be honest, I dont know if I've ever seen him since :)

My excuse for getting a new snake: I want to be able to see him!! LOL!

Plus..I'm getting pretty close to the "need to fill this empty cage stage!"

Hmmmmmmmm

Loan out my baby...........................I think not.
He has school not to mention :>poke2<: I have a few shows lined up to go to. LOL. I require his "expert" opinion on new additions to the collection.
Hubby, can't resist those big green eyes...................and the "Daddy can he come home with me". type questions. West, has work this spring / summer.
My " procurement specialist"
Wish me luck, hope Hubby does not catch on........................I think he knows but allows our act to continue for entertainment value.

"I like that alot"

"I want that snake"

"I think I'll take that one right there"

LOL.........Being single has it's rewards. I only have to convince Myself. :dgrin: :dgrin:

Skunky, not seeing the occupant does not make the cage empty, lol

Rick - I have a harder time convincing myself these days, than convincing my wife

I've been old (according to her, at least).
In my case, it just means that I have taken a good hard look at what I have, how much space it takes, what I need for my unfilled projects, and my current financial situation. Extra stuff, just because I like it, doesn't work right now.

I think I have finally broken through the need for excuses. I was online looking at snakes for sale and saw a nice one, I did not even get a chance to think up something to say, she saw it and said buy it!!
