In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Agreed!

I think I saw this same leopard posted on that other forum. Once again a melanistic. Nice looking.

Thanx, what other forum by the way?! Hopefully it´s not the same pic. or the same Leo as I have the copyright of the pic. and that I own the Leo.
Though I have the same pic. in a swedish forum.

Back to nikki, im new at this "morph stuff", is it a rare morph or is it a more common one?
The breeder i bought her from told me that most breeders and "collectors" dont like this morph so i bought her very cheap (about U.S 30$), was he right or was he wrong?

im not a 100% that even is a morph. its basically a dark normal but it does seem to have a little penstriping.

ideally a melanistic anything would be solid black and as you can see that animal isnt a solid color.

Like chad said, a melanistic is bassically a dark normal. But aside from that, there are a few breeders who enjoy the very dark normals. Kelli H. has several melanistics, and I have one, I'm sure some others do.

I think there is a thread on the front page about melanistics if it is still there.

I guess you could call it a hypermelanistic, but I wouldn't consider it a morph. It's a very dark normal. I would still consider it a very valuable animal to have, as you can use it on a quest to create an all black leopard gecko.

The pic. is from when I got her, they had "Claci -sand" for their lizzards.

I read that it could cause stomach-problems, and i thought it was really ugly! so I use a diffrent kind of sand now.

Is it a gene that I could breed on, i mean that if i get a "melanistic" male, would the genes pass on to the next generation?

Well i didnt get her for breeding, she´s my family pet....she has two cute friends (Leos as well). But its fun to know if i´d decide to get in to breeding!

It's not really a genetic gene, such as an albino would be, but if you found a dark male, you might get dark babies. You would end up doing a selective breeding project. However, that one in the pic looks like it has a kinked tail, so it would not be a good practice to use that one in a project.

Is that the stuff you are using in the cage now???? I would suggest not using any type of loose substrate..... Paper towels are the way to go...... You run a risk of impaction with any loose bedding...... To me it is just not worth the risk.....

Oh, nice looking leo by the way.....

no, i use a diffrent kind of sand!
Papertowels, really? my terraruim is rather lagre. I´ve never hade any problems with sand-eating, I feed my geckos often and use "chalk"/calcium to every feeding, i also have a little bowl with chalk/calcium and pieces of seachells in it so I dont think theres any problem...

or is there? anyone here that uses sand?

I use sand in one cage now, but have used it a lot in the past. I've never had a problem. I always recommend repti-carpet. It's the best substrate in my opinion. It's just as easy as paper towels, but crickets and mealworms don't get under it really easy, and it looks a bit nicer.

Oh don't make it a substrate argument!!!...but...to throw in my 2 cents without saying anything bad...I personally think tile is the best substrate. Cheap (probably cheaper than paper towels in the long run), attractive, closer to natural than most other choices (including sand...), extremely easy to clean, holds and conducts heat, and nothing can get under it! Oh...and there's tons of different choices! Here's a pic of a tank with tile substrate... oh...and please excuse the messiness...they are slobby geckos...
