In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What thermostats do you use and recommend?

Oh yeah, for sure i am putting helix's on my incubators. I have a thermo now, but it's not a push button one, its a dial and its very touchy.

But for my racks i have them stacked on top of each other, going up to the ceiling. It would be nice to have a thermo that has 2 or more outputs, to save a little cash. It will have to run two different temps tho, seeing as the ones further up are going to get hotter than the ones on bottom. But i really do like the helix's. I think they may be at the narbc. This year i don't think i'll go for animals. I'll go for a small incubator and a couple helix systems :)

Thanky you Kindly I probably will go with a Helix for now...

Only Question is will the Flex Watt melt the Plexi glaz and burn my house down... I hope it don't I got some beauties that are going in those cages

I'd think it would have to be pretty darn hot flexwatt to melt plexiglass, as i can rest my hand on mine and it's hot/warm, not burning hot.

But maybe someone else can shed light on this?

They are not reostats, they are thermostats. They do not depend on the ambient temperature remaining constant.

Looking at this... I did not mean to support them. They are not super reliable. They do work and are a budget friendly alternative, however, any serious inverstment in animals deserves an investment in their houseing. I still use to of these in 2 10 gallon tanks. But I would not buy any more.

You can use a regular dimmer switch on the top (or all) heat tapes. This way the bottom one can be on full (if needed) & you can cut some of the power going to the top ones & keep them all around the same temp easier. It works & the dimmers aren't expensive either. You can buy them from your local Hardware store, like Lowes, Home Depot, etc...

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion, but i have dimmers now and hate them :( The dimmers work well in a room that is temp controlled, or doesn't flux much, but our room fluxes from 75-87 within a given day. And i am not home to turn the racks down. I need something that will do that for me :) The front of our house is a dark wood and it just sucks the heat up, and of course our room is on that side of the house lol.

But to anyone else who has a more stable room temp, the dimmers he mention do their job pretty well :)

Actually, Desire, I think he means you can use the dimmers in conjunction with a thermostat. I was actually wondering about this, because even though with new Helix, I'm keeping within 2 degrees, I still have a 3-4 degree difference between top and bottom shelves. So, if I can vary the output power of the Helix higher for the lower shelves and lower to the higher (because heat rises), I could probably keep a constant (within 2 degree) temp for all the levels without the variance.

Does anyone actually use this method to keep a rack on target for all levels?

Ahh well in that case, it probably could work! I don't really understand how you'd hook it up...but i'm not at all electrical sauvy. I am suprised we got the racks we have to heat up! lol :)
