In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have two Eastern Box Turtles. One is a 6 inch male that was found on the side of a busy road and brought home by my son. The second is a baby female EBT that was found in a yard while the person was mowing and given to me because I am the neighborhood "reptile girl". I am not a turtle person, I am a snake and gecko girl though.

My kids have begged me to keep them and I have researched their care and have done the best I can to make sure they are well taken care of and healthy for the last 2 months. My kids are now no longer interested in them. I would like to have less "everyday care" animals.

So my question is can I legally sell or trade these two rescues from here in North Carolina? I have spent a few hours on the internet researching the laws out and this is what I think I understand: I can keep wild caught turtles as long as I have no more then 4 of them. I can sell and trade them as long as I am not collecting them for commercial purposes and can only do so if it is under 4 turtles (some sites say a year and some say ever).

I cannot reintroduce them in the wild for risk of contaminating the wild population with illness caught from being housed in captivity. One site said that if the turtles are put in an area where they did not hatch from that they will wander and roam till they find their hatching grounds and have a much greater risk of crossing roads and being hit by cars. Is this true?

To be honest the snake lover in me would love to trade them for snakes or sell them to buy snakes and I have put a lot of money in them to care for them properly, but my main foremost goal is that they will go to a good home where they will be well taken care of.

I do not wish to violate any laws so please if you for sure know what the laws are please inform me. Please don't give me your opinion if you do not know the law for sure. That will just confuse me more. Thanks!

I am not sure what the law states concerning the sales and trading of Eastern Box turtles. I have heard a lot of different things. I have also read no more than 4. I have two outdoor enclosures with a male and female in each. If I do ever see babies, I will more than likely just let them crawl away. I have been keeping them for 4 years now and have never seen any little ones myself. I do not buy/sell/trade at all when it comes to Eastern Box turtles. Not knowing the law clearly makes it not worth the trouble for me. I know someone who runs a box turtle rescue out of the Asheville area. He would be able to offer some assistance if interested.
