In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a interesting question for everybody so sound off........
What would you do if you own snakes already and a ordinance locally let say that restricts the particular breed that you have goes into effect after you already owned the snake.Would you register for a permit, keep the snake anyway, give it up, and be really honest because I think more people than care to admit would straight out keep them anyway.I would like to say this is in no way a personal issue to me but Im fasinated to see if people would be really honest or just give a Bull answer to not look bad.I will be honest I would probably keep them anyway and just try to be a very responsible owner but heck I have always been a Outlaw anyway.Well thats it lets hear the Morally right and the Morally wrong................:iagree:

:shrug01: I've done both before...guess it depends on the situation, and how workable the permit system is. When large constrictors, and numerous other critters, got the boot in NYS a few years back, I kept my yellow anacondas for a while (initially because I hadn't looked at the correct version of the law, and thought it was only greens - oops). I did end up getting rid of them, but that decision was only partially based on the desire to be compliant with the law (that particular law is ridiculous in it's scope and reach, IMO)
Previously, when venomous got banned, I was fully on board - got & maintained my permit without a second thought.
Those are State laws though - I don't know how much difference that makes for your question (a law's a law)

I have never been in that situation. However, when I was in college I had a friend who lived in a town that outlawed snakes as pets and dancing. People danced every Friday and Saturday at the local bars and the police did nothing to enforce the law.

Gunner(my friend) had a boa that was about 6 to 7 feet long and some how the police found out. We figure his daughter told her friends who told their parents who called the police. The police officer was nice told him about the city law and gave him 2 weeks to find a place for the boa. The police officer told Gunner he could try hiding it but if the department got another call they would have to give him a ticket. He could not afford a ticket so my parents got a guest living in my room for about a year.

So that is why I voted outlaw but I would keep my mouth shut and make sure my wife and daughter shut theirs too.

I have roughly a 75 year shelf life. 40 of those years are already gone. I dont have much more time left on this ride. So I will be damned if I will ever let society or any government dictate to me what I can and can not do. Particularly in the privacy of my home.

ThanksHarald,Floyd and the one and only Shrap,I am really suprised a little that more people are scared to answer this thread of fear they might be judged to be ill moral or something.Well to those who have been honest so far I applaud,I believe there is responsible Husbandry going on out there and also alot of non responsible husbandry going on out there to.I believe in Snake rooms with locked doors if you have children or other pets that dont want to be bent into a pretzel and ate (can be very ugly on a lap dog or cat).I believe on checking on you Dang snakes every day,you dont have to hold them just check on them! I think most people who belong to a site like this are taking a very positive aproach toward being a responsible husband to thier reptiles, and I applaud all of you who register and who contribute.

I don't think people are scared to respond, lol....though, if somebody is currently in that situation (keeping animals in violation of local or State law), it WOULD be pretty stupid to post it on the internet.

For me it would simply depend on the law. To be real honest sometimes it is cheaper to pay the fine than it is to get the permit. Sometimes the fine is that when you get caught in order to keep your animals you have to get the permit.

But I'll say this. I won't let a government employee decide how they are taken care of; I don't trust that. If anyone tried to come in and just take them they would have a shocking fight on their hands, and then once they got past my 118 pound wife they would have to deal with me.

Permits are just another excuse for the government to stick it's greedy sticky fingers in my pocket. Not happening, I don't pay for dog licenses either. Same logic applies to all my animals. I pay my taxes on the paycheck I use to buy the animal, I pay for the animal, I pay taxes on everything I buy for the animal, I pay the vet bills, I pay a pet deposit on my place, I've paid more on rent to keep my animals. All that is fine, ok I have issues with the taxes and what they are used for but I still pay them.

I am Not paying for nothing and that's just what getting a license/permit is - nothing. What does it do for me? What service or perk does it bestow upon me? How does it benefit me? It doesn't.

I lived in a place where constrictors were not allowed and I had many before I found out I was breaking the law. The police knew I had them, but because no one else complained nothing was said or done. Since then I have moved to where they are allowed, as well as venomous so I now can have tarantulas, too. No worries, but if they become illegal I probably will move again to have less stress. If it was just a matter of getting permits to keep them that would be fine.

I'll be totally honest...

It would depend completely on wether or not I agreed with the law. The government already takes away too many of our rights and mostly because we give them away or someone else gives them away for us. I do think laws need to be created by the people they affect and the people who understand the impact they will have and not by people who are just trying to get re-elected. So if I don't agree with the law I'll either move or just keep my mouth shut about what I have. The only problem with hiding it is that you risk losing everything you have if the wrong people find out. Regarding morality though, following the law, in my opinion, is not always the moral high ground... It's simply the legal high ground.

This was my senior year quote, and 9 years on not a thing that has happened has changed my mind about it.....

"I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

Nice qoute Sara I like that too.,,,,,,,, lookin like a lot of Outlaws out there watch out the old west is comming back ,better polish up grandpas old six shooter......HEHE

I would quietly go on and keep my snakes in the basement and break the law. If the heat got too bad I would have to move. I don't have that many years left until I won't be able to clean cages anymore. I already don't keep anything in the bottom cages.

Not many people know what I have locked up in the basement, a few wonder why I have bales of shredded aspen and sphagnum moss in the garage.
