Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

what would you do

for your info i dont breed sick leos. almost everyone of my animals have been vet checked. and the leos are doing great and have gained all the weight they lost due to unwanted breeding. the monitor with the mouth rot was taken to the vet as i stated in the post. all my animals are in top shape and theres nothing wrong with any of them. animals which i believe i can no longer care for i adopt out to other herpers which i know can care for them. you WERE one of the ones i thought i can trust with the animals i couldnt care for but you acted like a child when i wouldnt sell you a ball for 30$ when i paid more than that for her. im a hard worker and work for every bit of money i have, so why would i allow myself to lose money. so you can say watever u please cuz it dont faze me or my animals.

LOL

acted like a child? you told me you would sell me her..and then 2 days later you had her up on fauna, and reptibid for 30$, 2 females that didnt eat and you thought you were going to get your money back by selling them

you posted and 2-3 days ago about the skinny leos..and how you couldnt find a vet

people told you to keep the leos seperate and did you? NOPE i was one of
them, you showed me pics of the skinny females like 3 weeks ago.., they are not going to magically gain everything back in 3 weeks

where in that post does it say anything about taking the monitor you are keeping illegally to the vet?

i suggest surrendering your animals until you know you can care for them properly, everytime you post its about somthing that goes wrong with your herps..doesnt say much for you now does it

LOL, dan is right you act like no one remembers your permanant messages. You said before you did not know where a vet was, nor did you have the money to take them if someone did tell you where to go............

Oh, and here might i refresh that very foggy memory of yours. Click this
And i quote (So that you dont pay contributor status to fix this.)

i was told that if the feces of a leo is greenish theres something wrong. i would take it to the vet but im not sure wheres there is one and also because i dont have the money to spend on going to the vet. also i cant find one to go to. so thats why i come to u" who ever responds to this thread". i need your help to tell me whats wrong and what can i do. please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seemed like dan is correct to me.....

So your monitor, ball pythons, leo's and King snake have and or had medical issues. I think you may want to take a step back and see why this is happening. My guess is that your knowledge is not as great as your ambition. Maybe you should (for the sake of the animals) increase your knowledge before increasing your collection any further.

agreed

alright the monitor was given to me with the problem it had. i spoke with Bill from Amari Reptiles and he recommended a vet to me. before i didnt have the money because i didnt have a job. now that i do have a job i took most of my animals to the vet. as far as the 2 female balls, i purchased them at the show and they didnt want to eat so i force fed. i didnt think i should have them to force feed so i wanted to sell them. as for the leos i did seperate them. they are all housed in seperate enclosures. before i was a kid that didnt know much about anything, but now i do know, i know enough to keep my animals alive and in top shape. the kingsnake i took to the vet belonged to my boss who asked me to take it to the vet. so i had nothing to do with its condition. i take in animals around my neighborhood. you know how many i take in, NO you dont. this month alone ive taken in a black and white tegu, a chinchilla (which im allergic to),a leopard gecko, and a kingsnake. everyone of those animals have came to me all messed up and wouldnt eat at first. now they do. you guys might think im an ignorant kid but im not and i dont let peoepl like you crush my hopes and dreams. as far as surrendering my animals your greatly mistaken. no one in their right mind would try such a thing and nor will i allow them to. i thought i could come to this site and get a little bit of help when i didnt understand things, thats what i thought this site was all about. about all other herpers to come together and help each other when others are in need, but i might be mistaken. people like yourselves make me think otherwise. so you guys can say all you want cuz it doesnt really affect who i am and how i am with my animals. i put every lil bit of money and time to help out animals and people.

oh yea one more thing, look at the date on that post. its posted september ??. heres a hint that was about 5 months ago. that was then this is now. i know more than before and have a job to take my animals to the vet. oh yea DAN look up the law here in new york which prohibits the keeping of savannah monitors. there is none. it states specific monitors which doesnt include savannahs. nothing i keep is illegal. heres part of the bill which states the monitors.

"5 molurus), Asiatic (water) Monitor ({V.} VARANUS salvator), Nile Monitor
6 ({V.} VARANUS nilocitus), White Throat Monitor ({V. albigularus} VARANUS
7 ALBIGULARIS), Black Throat Monitor ({V. albigularus} VARANUS ALBIGULARIS
8 ionides) and Crocodile Monitor ({V.} VARANUS salvadori), KOMODO DRAGON
9 (VARANUS KOMODENSIS) and any hybrid thereof, "

here thsi is for you DAN. heres the part of the post which i stated i took the monitor to the vet. and i got her from a guy who fed her with a fork and injured her mouth. what do you think about that? he didnt take her to the vet but i did. oh yea and here are a couple of good things about my animals. my frilled dragon is growing like a weed, my male leo has gotten 3 times the size he was when i first got him, the black and white tegu is now eating after he would for a few days, my bearded dragons are growing fast and big, my scorpions havent stung me yet, my roaches have bred, my female baby ball pythons have shed 2 times each, the monitor with mouth rot was adopted out to someone who knows how to care for her after i got her a lil bit better, another monitor i took in was adopted out and is now doing as good as he was here with me, and last but not least my brooksi kingsnake bit me trying to get his food, he ate 2 small pinkies. now theres enough to hold you down. all my animals are great. some dont do well because i get them in like that so i post here to get some help.

Warning Level: 1 lots of thanks to all you guys. i really appreciate all that you have recommended i do. so for that i thank you guys a hwole lot. i took her to the vet and got some sort of antibiotic which i must administer every day as recommended by the vet. i thought the vet bill was gonna be in the hundreds but it really wasnt. it came out to a total of 62 bucks. not too much for my pockets. well once again i thank you guys. i would tell you what the vet said but i wasnt present at the time i had to work.(what a bummer) well again thanks to all you guys who helped me out in all the ways possible. tonight i will crank up the temps becuase on both sides of the enclosure is in the low 70's. except on the heated side which has the floor temp at around 90 something. well i will do as much as i can in my part to help out that savannah and hopefully she'll get much better.

In regards to your original question, I'd be raising hell that my vet cremated my dead animal without informing me/ asking for consent. You should make your vet compensate you in some form.

But....
before i was a kid that didnt know much about anything, but now i do know, i know enough to keep my animals alive and in top shape
I dont know anything but what I've read in this thread and the way you present yourself isnt very mature right now either. At 17 I cant imagine that you have a job that pays very much ( no offense) and its probably NOT a good idea to just
i take in animals around my neighborhood. you know how many i take in, NO you dont. this month alone ive taken in a black and white tegu, a chinchilla (which im allergic to),a leopard gecko, and a kingsnake. everyone of those animals have came to me all messed up and wouldnt eat at first. now they do.

Let's go back to the beginning of this particular thread. I'm a little fuzzy on this whole situation.

1) What was the condition of the snake that it warranted a visit to the vet?

2) When you got to the vet, why did the vet want to keep the snake there?

3) What was the course of treatment that was going to be administered during the animals stay at the vet?

4) If this is your boss' snake, why did HE/SHE not take it to the vet?

5) Was the vet paid?

6) What was the elapsed time between the day you took the animal in, the day it died, the day it was cremated, and the day you were notified?

7) Have you asked for a complete copy of the snake's treatment record? They are required, by law, to keep one, but I'm uncertain if they are required to release it to you.

Please fill in some of the holes and maybe this can be sorted out. Something is not right.

How smart is it to take in sick animals when you don't have the knowledge nor the funds to take care of said animal?

For someone who didn't have the funds to take sick animals to the vet I don't think buying other animals sounds too smart. Then trying to sell the ball pythons after the show signs of having problems contradicts your save the animals attitude you claim to have.

puertorab said:
as for the leos i did seperate them. they are all housed in seperate enclosures.

Again, not as smart as you claim to be.

Reality check, at 17 you are still a kid.

puertorab said:
i know enough to keep my animals alive and in top shape.

Then why did the King snake die?

puertorab said:
the kingsnake i took to the vet belonged to my boss who asked me to take it to the vet. so i had nothing to do with its condition.

On the 15th you posted about the King having problems and 10 days later this post about the vet. Again, if you don't know what you are doing then maybe you should stop putting the animals in further danger until you have the knowledge to help them instead of having your ignorance being the cause of the prolonged suffering and death like with this King snake.

Again, further knowledge will help out these animals much more than your good intentions.

Someone in their right mind would know when they are in over their head.

A little bit huh? Sounds like you need help with understanding every animal you are dealing with. For the last time, increase your knowledge before you increase the amount of animals you have. If you can't handle the ones you have then get them to someone who can so another ones doesn't suffer like the King snake did.

A. You are a kid
B. You seem to posses little knowledge on any animal you worked with.
C. You claim you are more knowledgable, but you are constantly asking questions to simple things. The only thing you have shown for in the past 5 months of the orignal post is that you got a job and you can get animals into a vet. Is this a certified herp vet? or just a vet willing to take your money and to give half-ass care to any animal you bring.....

Also, in reguards to the original topic. How much time passed inbetween the admittance and cremation???? And how come you dont know what it was sick with or what it died of?? Surely the vet did a fecal when it came in....

It almost sounded like the snake had a very infectious illness, if the vet cremated it immediatly after death. It also sounded like some time passed too, how come you did not call to check up on it sooner?

hey i know im not perfect and that i dont know everything there is to know about the animals i take in. but i do have some sort of knowledge on them before i take them in. i have a job which pays for my animals care and items needed for them. i work to support my animals and my parents do help me out with money needed. money is no issue. i take in the animals because if i dont they will be let loose in the streets as many people have informed me they would. so i take them in. i then observe their bahaviors and thoroughly analyze them. anything i find wrong with them i ask on this calssifieds to see if anyone has any knowledge on it. thats why im always posting on this classifieds.
now about the kingsnake, he belongs to my boss who was worried about it. the king had a few lumps in its stomach. well after he came to me, a few days later it released a oval shaped object which looked like an infertile egg. i was thinking it was eggbound. so i took it to the vet which i dont know is certified but he was recommended by a friend who visited him several times. i took the snake to the vet cuz my boss had no time to. he only owns 2 snakes and this was one of them so he asked me to takee it to the vet for him. the king wasnt with me to develop this sickness. when i got to the vet he said it was a tumor or a cancer in the kidneys. i thought it was bull but who else could i take it to when hes the only vet i know. then he said he would charge me 200$ to do the operation to remove them. then he stated it was eggbound and he would puncture the first lump which would allow the others to pass on through. my boss said he wasnt paying the 200 so the vet said he'll do it for 50$ then it was set and later on he said he owuld do it for free. a week passed between the time i took it and the time he died at the vet. he said whiole he was on his off day the snake died and was immediately creamated. i called everyday to check up on the snake. i asked everyday about it and had the same answer " the snake isnt doing so well". all of a sudden it died. they didnt call me to tell me so and the didnt call me to ask if i wanted the snake creamated or if i would allow them to. we called again to find out some info but they gave us a run around. the office said they didnt keep any records of it. we felt it was bull and kept calling but the doc was in sugery. he then said he would give me a corn snake to compensate the death of the snake.
heres the answers to the questions u asked
1) What was the condition of the snake that it warranted a visit to the vet?
the snake had a few lumps in its abdomen.
2) When you got to the vet, why did the vet want to keep the snake there?
he said it could die from what it had within days.
3) What was the course of treatment that was going to be administered during the animals stay at the vet?
the snake was being kept until the operating date which was uncertain
4) If this is your boss' snake, why did HE/SHE not take it to the vet?
he didnt have time so he entrusted me to take it.
5) Was the vet paid?
the vet said he would do it for 200$ then 50$ then for free.
6) What was the elapsed time between the day you took the animal in, the day it died, the day it was cremated, and the day you were notified?
i took the animal on a saturday took it to the vet a few days later when i had time to. it died on a the saturday. i found out when i called on the next day which was a sunday. they didnt inform me at any time. they didnt call at anytime what so ever.
7) Have you asked for a complete copy of the snake's treatment record? They are required, by law, to keep one, but I'm uncertain if they are required to release it to you.
we asked for any records and they said they dont keep any because they dont handle so many exotic animals.

hey you guys are right. i may not have knowledge of certain animals but i try with what i have. when i had a pair of fat tails i offered Dan them for free, but he couldnt pick them up. the fat tails werent doing well with me and i didnt have much knowledge on them so i offered them to him that way he can care for them because he knew what he was doing. i only keep animals i know enough about and can care for them well. Dan you know what i say is true. i come to Dan a lot with questions cuz i know he could help me. he now doesnt want me to ask him anymore questions or anything else because i wouldnt sell him the balls at a price he wanted. the balls are doing great whene i offered them they were being force feed just one time them they took food on their own. so they werent sick or had any illnesses. i treat all my animals with parazap 5 days a month every month. i try to help everyone with their animals as i woudl liek for others to help me. i knwo i cant help every animal but i try. i know im in over my head but thats how i am. as far as animals which have died with me there arent any but that king whos death wasnt my cause. you might think im just a kid but i dont think so. to me age has nothing to do with being a man. i dont think im a man nor a kid. im just someone in need of some help when i know i need it. i know when i need help so i do ask for it from you guys. no one in this world is perfect and i know im not so i come to others to help me. im not a man but im man enough to realize when i need help. i try to help out my neighborhood. if only you knew where i live you would realize that im one in a million in this hood. i live in a neighborhood full of drugs and violence. friends of mine who i went to school with are drug dealers and drop outs. im 17 in the 12th grade. my brother is a drop out and my other brother is in the 10th grade and hes 18. my dad isnt around most of the time but my mom is. shes the best thing in my life and she helps me and encourages me to help others and to succeed in life.i do this through my love for animals. my dad tells me to get rid of all my animals or he'll kill them but my mom puts her head on the line for me. come on i try what i can with what i have. this might seem like a bull story but this is my life story. youd only know how my life is if you lived it and are living it. we'll my cause is what runs me and ill continue to help out people and animals both. i might not be so knowledge in these things but i learn something new everyday and thats how i gain my knowledge. i read and learn from others. i also look up to people like all you guys including you Dan. people like you influence me to help and not stop helping. the death of the snake isnt my fault and i wont let it be. i dont ever do anything to put any animal in danger. when i take them in i take them knowing i have time and the funds to take them in. you can think of me what you'd like cuz i only know what and who i am.thanks for all your input. it has made me realize lots of things and i will ty my best to to learn more than what i know now and to fix up the bad things about me. so thank you all for that.

the ball pythons are not why i do not speak to you anymore

you say no animals have died in your care except for the kingsnake...what about those 4 cornsakes that died within a day of eachother>?

you did not offer the fat tails for free, you wanted 20$ for each oe

Thanks for answering all my questions.

Now, to answer your original post:

You should not do anything. It was not your snake, nor did you have the authority to authorize or deny its treatment. If everything you said is accurate, you should post the name of the vet so that others may avoid him completely.
