In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What would you do?

OK, well my fellow Herpers here know how this scenario goes, especially if your one of the few Reptile people in town like myself. I always talk about my babies at work and I'm a Cashier so EVERYBODY knows. I just didn't know what that would "entitle" me to when I talk about them all the time.

The guy wearing the hunter outfit next to me taps me on the shoulder and says "Hey! Your the Reptile chick right?" He says hes trying to get rid of his Reptiles because he can't afford to feed them anymore and he doesn't want them starving to death.

I asked him what he had and he said one Corn Snake and 9 Leopard Geckos, 2 male Leos the rest females. I gave him my number and should of gotten his. See what I don't get is how their going to starve to death?? I know you guys generally don't believe me and well because I don't have a camera. If I make minimum wage, part time with NO car, and I can feed MY babies, then frankly I think anybody can do it. If poor ol Kristin can whats everybody else's excuse!? I even fit in Vet trips. I do my darnedest!

Well anyways if I do get the chance to talk with him I already know what I will say, what we will talk about and plan on upholding a good fellow Herper attitude. I just hope to God that their not bone skinny. It will be hard to relocate anything that needs some serious medical attention. I can't take his 10 to the Vet or anything because I have my own, and I can't even take them temporarily without their housing and heat, which hopefully he has. In your opinion IF all goes well or even if he relocates them hiself, where is the best place for me to tell him, or me to take them? The Humane Shelter, or the Pet Store?? I could ship them to anybody on here but I don't know if anybody would want anything from me. Free except for paying for the shipping and I could probably at least get a cell phone pic of them? I can do an overall check of their health.

Oh well, we'll see if I talk to him or not, and I will keep you guys updated. Thank You. I just need to know where to tell him to take them.

Kristen

You are dealing with a situation that every herper has faced many a time. People buy reptiles because they think that they are easier than a dog or cat, don't bark and keep they neighbors up but after a time they become bored and the animal starts to suffer. I live in a college town and people know me around for reptiles so I do get calls all the time to take this snake that gecko, etc. College kids buy them, keep them in their dorm rooms and at the end of the year (May) mom and dad say they can't bring them home. So they land on my doorstep. Feeding them takes money so I send to take money from other things like entertainment and fund this project. Eventually I may find a person who will take them or they stay here (Have a normal female ball for 7 years and I will not get rid of her cuz she came to me starved and I didnt think she would survive). This person sounds like he is trying to get rid of a problem so he won't really be ready to listen to what you have to say. So if you can not take them send me an email [email protected] and we will see if we can't do something. Geckos are easier to keep in a classroom. Principals like geckos better than snakes arouns children. You know what I mean!!!!!!!

LMBO Yeah I know what you mean about the Snakes and Geckos. I will defiantly contact you IF I can even take them. I am worried he may not have or want to give up any heating and then I would not be capable of taking them. I have no spare heating parts at the moment and cannot afford them because I have my own collection that needs me, a Rat that has to be seen by the Vet next week. All I can say is Thank God for surprise gift cards. lol

So where can I tell him to take them if I cannot? I just hope he calls because I may not know much but I know some! If nothing else I can be sweet and nice and offer helpful information. Like maybe he doesn't know how to prolong a crickets life or the best place to get the best deal on them from. When I started it was the expensive Pet Store I bought from and kept them in their bags, which was OK I guess I only had one cricket eating critter. By the next cricket eating critter came along we had a 20 gallon for them, had done the research about them and their food and in doing so found Top Hat Crickets 500 for $15.00 all together, instead of the Pet Stores $5.00 for a hundred. I am suspicious as to what is really going on. Maybe if it is bad it would be better for me not to know, especially if it comes down to me not being able to take them in?

What to do with them

Kristin,
We are a rescue also and have extra tanks to keep them in. If you get in a bind and need to relocate them we would love to take them. So far I have always been able to place our rescues quickly and with no problem, even big ol mean iggy's. :yesnod:
Sometimes people just decide they don't want to fool with the animals anymore. I never Ask their reason because most of the time it wouldn't be the truth anyway. What matters is he is being responsible and wanting to place them somewhere where he knows they will be taken proper care of. Once people know you have reptiles and love them so much, you will definately get this alot.
Just PM me if you need me.
