    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. I have a spider ball python i nought about a month ago. noticed him soaking all day yesterday went to change his water and it was full of mites. Took him out and he was covered in them. Whats the best way to get rid of them? I coated him and his terrarium with Zoo Med mite off. and my gf picked about 60 mites off of him last night for about 3 hrs. could it of taken this long to show up like that coming from the breeder? I havent added any other snakes to my collection untill late last night. also can the mites be passed on to my frogs i have several different frogs in the room. Any help or suggestions would be great help
 
snake mites only affect snakes and won't be a problem for your frogs.

Best way to get rid of them is a combination of reptile relief to kill them on the snake and prevent a mite sprayed on all substrate and the container. It is possible the snake had eggs on it and it took a month to get the amount that you see now. You can also use promethazine and dilute it, it's at all livestock supply stores because farmers use it to kill flies. I've used it before to spray the snake and container and it worked well but PAM works the best it's just expensive.
 
PAM isn't that expensive, our local pet store sells it for $12 a can I believe.

Every snake owner should have a can to use when their snake(s) comes in, treat every single snake like it does have mites, treat the tank or tub your going to place it in and spray the surround area also.

Reptile relief only drowns the live bugs on the snake and doesn't do that very well really, a waste of money imo.
 
Definately get yourself a can of PAM...I treated 2 chondros I got at Daytona in August and they JUST came out of quarantine, mite free, a few days ago. It takes a while and quite a few treatments to compleatly get rid of them.
 
Lol non stick. Thatsbok for the longest time i thouht u guys were talking about yhe cooking spray. Im with dustin on this one. Pam and reptirelief. If he was in the same room as your other snakes than you should treat them as well. Also i would recommend reading up on some quarinitne procedures. Its not too much just an inconvience, especially if u catch it quick. But once u let it sit for a while it becomes a paain from what ive read.

Yes reptile relief only kills the live mites but that's the first start to getting the snake relief from them feeding off of it. It would take a little time for the PAM to kick in and kill them because you can't spray it directly on them. I can't get PAM anywhere local so it gets expensive with shipping charges included especially from LLL.

:iagree: A long standing member posted a very good quarantine process... I would use the search button, for more information on this topic.:)

Clarifying: I would spray the snake and have it in a pre-treated sterile inclosure when it first came in (away from EVERYTHING). Then a week later, put it with the quarantined snakes in a pre-treated (with PAM) enclosure, if nothing was evident (mites/ticks).

*I have never tried spraying the snake with RR and then putting it in the pre-treated chemical.

I treat on a irregular basis with Provento mite....every other cleaning I spray down my cages to make sure there are no mites in my collection
 
i only have 1 other ball right now she dont have any mites and just came in they are on opposite ends of the room. It was confirmed today the mites came from the breeder. I went to the place i got him from and the other snakes he got from the breeder also have a bunch of mites. mostly my reptiles are frogs well not really a reptile but u know what i mean. just starting to get into collecting snakes only ever had a few corn snakes in the past so figured id try my luck with breeding snakes. have had lots of luck in the past with geckos and frogs. i havent seen nearly as many mites today as yesterday. He was sprayed with Mite Off by zoomed only thing i could get at the time when i found the mites. He got a steam bath today for some shed issues over his eyes he has and it drew out some more mites today that where killed and he is currently in a steam bath right now. Gonna order some PAM cant find it in any local pet stores. I found some Natural Chemistry Reptile spray suppose to kill mites. but dont do nothin to the eggs.

I probably wouldn't use it that often that stuff is pretty hard on snakes. There's videos on youtube of snakes that acquired neurological problems from the stuff. Just saying I would only use it if you get mites or if you have a new animal coming in.

If theyre in the same room i would assume she has them as well and take care of it just to be safe. Good luck, and hope you get them before they get out of control.

Just curious about this "steam bath". You've got to be careful about shocking him with any extreme temperature changes.

You can take a few drops of Dawn (most any mild dish detergent) and rub him down, after he's already wet. Let him slither through your fingers several times and he'll be pretty well lathered up. Let him continue to do that for a couple more minutes, and then put him back in a tub of warm water (around 90-92 degrees). That should help to get more of the mites that are hiding beneath the scales. Be sure to rinse him well after he's done soaking--again with water about the same temp as his bath.
 
i dont actually put him in the hot steam water. I usually turn the shower on put the snake in a container and put it in the bathroom and let the bathroom steam up and then with all the steam it makes the humidity extremly high.

She has no mites i got her the same day i found the mites on the spider ball. she is nowhere near him. hes gonne be comin out of my room today goin to get a clear tub to keep him in so i can scrub out his tank. I only found a few mites on him last night and can see a few still hiding under the scales. Im hopeing to have these thin gs gone before i can order some PAM. but itll be nice to have for any other issues or to prevent more issues.

Is there any other product that is easy to find and commercially available i can pick up so dont have to pay for shipping. My gf works for a pest control company and is gonna see if any of her suppliers carry the PAM. So i can get get other pest control stuff also if someone has a recomendation. Also it is a young snake im gonna guess no more then 5-6 months old
 
I would just order the PAM to treat his tubs and surrounding area, rather than trying to use any other harsh chemicals. The PAM is strong enough. While you wait, you can get some NIX (lice shampoo) and mix a bottle with a gallon of distilled water. It's not as harsh, and you can spray it directly on your snake.

If you're able to see any mites, you've got to assume that there are new eggs, too. Because of that, it's best to treat both animals. And I wouldn't move him to another room. No reason to have mites in two rooms.
 
here in about 15-20 min im goin to get a tub to keep him in his tank is gonna get put someplace with fumigation strips from gfs work will kill and bug in the tank includeing eggs. They are used to treat for bed bugs and other types of bugs. all bedding is goin in the trash when he comes out and wood is goin in the oven. Im gonna try this Natural Chemistry Reptile spray for mites it wiped out all living bugs at my buddies pet store but i seen a few new live mites there yesterday. so must not do nothing to the eggs. My gf was reading that some reptile keepers use these strips (Nuvon strips) I believe they are called in there reptile enclosures but it cant be breathed by humans. like i said im kind of new to the snake thing have always had lizards and frogs in the past. the spider ball is in a small enclosure so i dont have a lot of area to treat he lives in a 10 gal tank right now like i said before hes young i dont even think hes 100 grams yet. He was 60grams when i took him to the vet 3 weeks ago i believe. Also do u have and recomendations on getting stuck eye caps off i really dnt want to have to take him back to the vet for this. Came with 2 layers stuck over his eyes from the breeder and his last shed from a few days ago is stuck to his eyes
