    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is the black and white dragon head avatar we all seem to have been given something that was done on purpose or is it a glitch from the upgrade? It is looking pretty crowded on the right side of all the posts.

This threw me for just a minute...then I remembered that since you are on the other side of the computer, you must be facing me - so your right is my left. Or did you mean the other right side? OK - I'll admit that second option was a combination guess & ASSumption. When people reference the left I often end up with the realization that they mean the other left...

In my opinion the current hell avatar is too large. A more subtle or smaller one would look better as it won't seem the screen is that crowded with images.

Yes, I agree. I think a more "iconized" image may be better as well. Maggie does great art work, but I think the image kind of overpowers that area. It needs to be more unobtrusive and just an "indicator".
 
Just tossing this out, as it doesn't impact me at all (other than having to look at all the stuff in the threads), but do those images HAVE to be shown in the posting profile? By viewing somebody's main profile, you can see who their friends are, what groups they are in, etc - is there really a reason for that stuff to spill out into the general forum space? Or is that just part of the programming? I think many people would like the option of streamlining their posting profiles - I don't mind my coins being displayed, but for the few days that they weren't, I really liked the look better (I'd probably leave them in the main profile, if that was an option)
Can the Wolf Pack, Bush League Breeders, EVC, and Mid-Atlantic Reptile Breeders add an identifying image, as well? Or is that just for Fauna groups (not social groups)?

Again - not trying to create work or programming mods, just asking about options/

I agree with you. I don't think it will go over too well. Hey, if they hate it they hate it-LOL! I don't particularly like myself. I don't know if it's where it's located or what.

Let me see what I can do in Photoshop, perhaps making it look like a sketch or a pencil drawing, maybe even "toon"ish then I should be able to shrink it down much farther without it losing too much in the translation.

He is too big. Even if it wasn't "this" demon it is too big and I think that's why people didn't care for it at first.

If you want to remove it for the time being until we figure something out, go for it! It will probably save you some headaches while this gets hashed out!

One fly in the ointment is that I will be gone most of the evening and tomorrow I'm going to be with my Daughter as we share a birthday.
I will be able to do a few things late this evening and (hopefully) tomorrow evening early. Partying with my Daughter just doesn't thrill me, so I'm going to try to bow out gracfully-LOL!

You had a great idea Harald, that way there's not so much "clutter" on the sidebar.

For whoever mentioned the 60x60 size that does sound more workable, lets see how small it can get without looking like an ink blot!

I make the images linked to the member groups and HELL forum optional in that a member has to specifically choose which icon they may want to be displayed.

I had hoped to sometime have some special interest forums set up that were only available for specific reasons and interests, each with it's own identifying icon, but I guess it will get too cluttered. I may consider dropping the coin icons and use something else that takes up less space in the profile area of the posts.

As far as I can determine, there is no way to separate the visual icon from being displayed in a post and in the profile area in the User CP section.

If/when that comes to pass, what about using smaller icons - similar to the idea of the ones at the bottom left of the post profile (not necessarily the same size, but small enough to put a few of them in one line). Obviously, they couldn't be highly detailed images but, depending on the interest, maybe Maggie (or whoever) could help come up with something.

I'm still finding new "toys" to play with- LOL!

I'm sitting here on my laptop, supposedly avidly listening to the stimulating conversation (Uh huh, sure I am). Y'know if I counted all the teeth the rest of the folks here have I might wind up with a full set... :)

I've played with the little avatar demon again as he's the only one I have on this machine. He looks much better at 60x60, Rich, so if you can resize him, try him out in a test post or something. I believe you can do that yourself even in MS Paint, that's why I sent you the original file so you could make changes if you wanted to. I would rename it before you save so you don't overwrite the original as I can't send it to you right now.

I've made a pencil drawing one and a colored pencil drawing type, like Seamus' avatar and he looks pretty cool that way too. Using an old version of Photoshop on this machine, so can't check out the 'toon actions just yet.
 
Definitely need smaller avatars that are relatively clutter free in regards to the backgrounds. The larger graphics can be distracting. Something a little more on the simpler side that works well in conjunction with being a smaller graphic is more suitable for the purpose of avatars. I do think the current demon is absolutely adorable. The amount of detail in the graphic would make for great desktop wallpaper, but not so good as a small avatar icon since it would be a shame to see that much detail go to waste by simply shrinking it down.


quite a bit off topic.. have you ever done a Trogdor the Burninator drawing? i have a coworker who would literally die if he had a Trogdor graphic of the kind of detail you put into that demon for his computer desktop lol.

If that little guy isn't copywrited I think he's adorable!

I'm still going to play with these things just for practice. I'm learning new things in my graphics programs too so it doesn't even feel like work! :D
 
Since it's an avatar qeustion I figured I'd ask the members here.

Is it really appropriate to have a serial killers photo as your avatar on this site?
